RENEW: GROW IN FAITH HAVE FUN CHANGE THE WORLD
June 12th at 5:30 – after Riverfest closes – bring the kids, the grandkids, your neighbor’s
kids, any kids who want to come and join the gang at Sunrise for RENEW! Renew Vaca-
tion Bible School will ask the children (and the many, many adult helpers) to RENEW their
lives. We renew our lives by learning the parable of the sower – who went out to sow and
scattered seed. RENEW asks the children to identify seeds that have come up in their lives.
They will be learning about different kinds of seeds – methods of planting – and harvesting.
And they will learn to recognize spiritual seeds which sprout around them. Ministry is all
about planting seeds – RENEW helps us to focus on this important aspect of ministry)
RENEW also helps the children think about our world – this beautiful earth God gives us. During
their WORLD segment each evening, children will learn about different places and people around the world.
They will learn similarities and differences they have with others. They will learn about how people in other
countries grow seeds. They will begin to understand their connection to God’s people around the world.
In the COMMUNITY segment, the children will think about their relationship to one another and to
the earth, to the food they eat, and the products they use and re-use. They will have fun re-using items to
make crafts, and these crafts will open windows in which to view the world in new ways.
Of course, we will begin each evening with a quick supper at 5:30. We will have great singing and
really fun games. Most of all Vacation Bible School is about having fun learning. Sunrise loves to provide a
safe, fun atmosphere for kids and this year’s RENEW VBS is no exception. Lisa McFadden is doing a mas-
terful job directing VBS. Many adults and youth have volunteered to teach, assist, help, and cook. It will be
fun.
It’s not too late to register. Give Lydia a call at the office or sign up on Sunday. I’ll look forward to
learning with all of us how to plant seeds, RENEW and form community!
Love,
Martha

PROJECT SALINA
Sunrise came through again with $270 and 95 bags/boxes of rice for Project Salina. Thank youfor participating. We continue to care and share.
PRESBYTERIAN DISASTER RELIEF
Several have been asking about support for the tornado communities. You can give to thePresbyterian Disaster Relief fund and designate that it is for tornado relief. You can even desig-nate it for particular communities if you would like. You can send that directly to Presbyterian
Disaster Relief fund, or write checks to Sunrise designating it for Tornado relief.
Some have asked about serving as worker volunteers; this is a distinct possiblity, but you needto register in advance rather than just showing up. We, Sunrise, can register a team by contact-
ing the Presbyterian relief network. This can be done on line. So, let the office know if youwould like to be included on that list and we will send it in as soon as we have a van full of
volunteers.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
The Bible School kids are going to be making the "Gift of the Heart Kits" over the next fewweeks. If you would like to contribute supplies for that, contact Scott Lee.
MISSION TRIP
Also, our summer youth mission trip to Arkansas will be at a location where they too willassemble these gifts.
FELLOWMAN INTENATIONAL
Finally, don't forget to think about Lisa and her mission. We will be collecting money with thehope of getting $5,000 which we pledged early this year. You can designate some of your per-sonal pledge to Sunrise toward this mission. Just indicate on the lower left area of your check
that it goes to this effort.

SUNRISE SESSION UNANIMOUSLY APPROVESTHE SANCTUARY RENOVATION TASK FORCE…
You may have heard that Session is beginning to dis-cuss the possibility of renovating the sanctuary. Afterabout forty years, some members thought it was time tobring the sanctuary up to date. The Worship Commit-tee has already spent about a year studying the need toimprove the acoustics in the sanctuary and spoke tospecialists in church organs who were able to talk to usspecifically about our organ and the possibility of mov-ing the organ pipes. (You have probably noticed howcrowded the choir is at present. Moving the organpipes, possibly placing them on the walls, would createa great deal more space.) The Worship Committee hasalso looked at some ideas for making the sanctuary notseem so dark. After this study, it was decided that atask force should be formed to take all of this infor-mation and collect any other information needed andprepare a proposal (which may include multiple phases)for the renovation of the sanctuary to present to the Ses-sion. The following persons have agreed to serve onthis task force:
Melanie Hancock-Moderator of Worship Committee
Dale Jenner-Moderator of Building and Grounds Com-mittee
Kevin Cool
Kenny Hancock
Tony Hewitt
Betty Rassette
Mark Zimmerman
Martha Murchison and Leslie Mangrum-serving as staffresources
This task force will hold its first meeting on Tuesday,May 31st. Watch for periodic reports from them overthese next several months.
Thank You.
