Highlights of the innovaphone PBX Version 11 Release 1 (11r1)

The software Version 11 brings a host of new pro­ducts and product details to the innovaphone PBX IP Telephone and Unified Communications solution. Thanks to the proven and tested myPBX interface, the usability of the innovaphone IP phones and the Unified Communications applications is now more intuitive and consistent. Furthermore, devices that are suppor­ted for the first time by Version 11 use the optimized user interface, such as the new IP111 phone, the ex­ten sion module for the IP222 and IP232 phones and the smartphone app “myPBX for Android”. A variety of innovations offer users more flexibility than ever before concerning usability, security and mobility;

there are also facilities to ease the work of the ad­ministrator.

In order to accommodate the rapid developments in the communications market, innovaphone has decided to shorten the cycles between the individual releases. Therefore, V11 Release 1 (11r1) is being launched now, and there will surely be at least a Release 2 between V11 and V12 within a shorter period of time. Upgrades within the main version are free of charge and there will be no mandatory technician update training courses in order to obtain the re­seller status. Version 11 Release 1 offers:

Offi ce workers have high expectations of everyday telecommunications. The innovaphone IP phones support all important functions from transfer, over three­party conference calls to call

parking and unparking. Of course, these and other more complex processes have to be intuitive to use without a manual. The new operating concept provides apps to deal with this. These apps work in a similar way to the apps on a smartphone. Splitting the fun­ctions into individual apps considerably reduces the complexity and the user is supported by the right app in any situation. Therefore, the Phone app helps with call forwarding or conferencing, the Favourites app makes it easy to manage favourite contacts, and all incoming and outgoing calls are shown clearly in the Call list app.

You are in a call with your customer and would like to ask a colleague for advice? On the display you will fi nd the appropriate icon to pause the current call. You will be consistently guided through each procedure by following the information on the display. However, you can still use the traditional way. Simply press the “R” key as usual and dial the colleague’s number. After consultation, hang up and you are then connected with your customer again.

Furthermore, the new user interface is the same across all innovaphone PBX platforms – on phone displays, on computers and on smartphones. The innovaphone PBX Version 11 is intuitive and does not require any new learning; the system is extremely fl exible and highly convenient.

IP111 IP phone New Devices.

The innovaphone IP111 IP phone succeeds the previous proven IP110, which it replaces in the lower price segment. In terms of performance, however, the IP111 focuses more on

the IP222 and IP232 design phones – offering the latest features for telephony and unified communica­tions. The new intuitive V11 operating concept comes into play perfectly thanks to the large color screen and the 12 dynamically assigned function keys. The user is conveniently guided through the various functions and apps just like on the design phones.

The integrated power supply via the Ethernet cable (PoE) means that only one cable is required for

operation, which is elegantly integrated in the base. An integrated Ethernet switch allows a computer or other network device to be connected to the local network.

The IP111 is designed both as a desk phone and is suitable for wall mounting. The base ensures the phone is suitable and at an optimal angle for use on the desk. The same base can be attached to the wall with two screws. The phone is attached to the base back­to­front and the cable is fed elegantly from be­low. A tab ensures the handset does not slip off as it is now at a steeper angle.

supports up to two extension modules, which are switched in a row.

The extension module is placed on the right of the phone and is connected via a short USB cable. The aluminium base is clicked into place and connected to the phone physically, uniting both devices and forming an aesthetically pleasing unit. No installation is necessary for the phone software to detect the exten­sion module and it is operational within seconds.

There are two apps on the extension module that work just like the corresponding apps on the phone. The Home app contains up to 32 freely programmable function keys. The second app, the Favourites app, shows all Favourites in alphabetical order.

Would you like to see all of your favourites on your phone, just like on myPBX? The IP2X2­X phone exten­sion module allows you to access all your Favourites on a permanent

basis, even if you are only using the phone to transfer a call or for consultation. The Favourites are automati­cally transfered and the extension module is installed automatically, without any specific configuration. The new, intuitive V11 operating concept comes into play and is therefore very easy for the user.

The IP2X2­X phone extension module is available from software Version 11 Release 1. The extension module can be used with the IP222 and IP232 phones. It has a large touch screen (480 x 232 pixels). One phone

Application SharingNew Features.

Working together has never been more effi cient, easier or faster than it is now when using innovaphone Applica­tion Sharing. No annoying installation of plugins, no need to send emails

with URLs back and forth, no administrative overhead needed before starting.

You are on the phone with a colleague and realise how useful it would be if he could see the contents of your screen? A single click in the myPBX interface starts innovaphone Application Sharing, allowing you to share selected contents of your screen with your colleague. All this with no need for any installation, confi guration, dial­in or authentication as this was already done via the telephone connection. Data encryption takes place according to the principle of voice data encryption.

You can pass the control of the shared application to your colleagues or accept his request for control. The person who granted the approval has control of the application. Application Sharing with control transfer also works for three­party conferences in the usual innovaphone way: no additional server.

Internal webinars made easy: Webinars are set up in the same simple way. In addi­tion, the large conference on an innovaphone gateway also offers Application Sharing for all subscribers. After dialing into the conference, subscribers see the presentation on the computer automatically and with­out any extra settings. It couldn’t be easier to set up webinars.

ConferencingNew Features.

The new, improved innovaphone Con­ferencing in Version 11 makes it much easier for administrators to set up con­ference rooms and to add PINs and announcements. The previous way

of setting up of static conference rooms via a script language has been replaced by simple configuration of a Conference object in the innovaphone PBX. For this object, you only have to specify the access PIN and announcement for the applicable phone number – and the new conference room is ready.

By the way: The audio converter on the innovaphone web page can be used to convert announcements from any common audio format to the required announcement format.

Furthermore, innovaphone Application Sharing is also available for all big conferences. This allows internal webinars and similar events to be set up and carried out easily, too. The presentation is automatically shown after dialling into the Conference room.

Many smartphone and tablet PC users have, to date, been using myPBX page via the Web browser. V11 increases the integration in mobile devices: myPBX is available

as a dedicated app for the Android operating system. The combination of smartphone and myPBX app brings flexibility in all directions. Contacts from the central PBX phonebook and contacts that are speci­fically stored on the smartphone are always in avai­lable. In addition, for each call it is possible to select whether the contact should be called via the smart­phone and GSM or via myPBX and WLAN. This

gives the user maximum flexibility to save costs and ensure availability. Pre­settings ensure auto­matisms are also availa­ble, which always select IP connections if WLAN is available or which priori­tise GSM for external calls.

WebRTC, no serverNew Features.

There is a new buzzword in the IT industry: WebRTC. Web browsers are currently being extended by adding the function “Real Time Communica­tion”. This allows real time connections

to be transmitted for voice and video. As of Version 11, all devices on the innovaphone PBX are compa­tible with the browsers that already support WebRTC. Voice connections to WebRTC always comply with the highest security requirements through DTLS­SRTP.

myPBX can also use the WebRTC browser support. In doing so, WebRTC is integrated in myPBX as another phone and can be used as an independent extensi­on. The advantage: innovaphone supports WebRTC consistently on all units. A WebRTC gateway is not

needed for implementation, in contrast to most of the other initial solutions currently available on the market. Thus, the innovaphone solution is again a particularly slim and smart implementation and does not require a server.

Starting with Version 11, WebRTC makes it possible to use myPBX on any platform also on MacOS, Linux and other systems – all with no need for installation, provided that the available browser supports WebRTC. myPBX in the browser serves as a softwarephone, the computer’s output media can be used to make phone calls, a conventional headset makes it possible to make phone calls.

Be mobile and still secure: with Ver­sion 11, innovaphone offers a packa­ge of solutions to guarantee just that.Voice data has been encrypted on the innovaphone PBX for a long time. The

standardized protocol SRTP allows encryption to be compatible to remote stations of other manufacturers. The new DTLS­SRTP protocol brings another key exchange (in­band) in the media channel from Version 11. This requires two separate keys. The additional private key is not transmitted

Anywhere Workplace in Version 11 promises secure access to the telephone system and free phone calls

from any Internet access point. The H. 460.17 and ICE (Interactive Connection Establishment) protocols allow the connection across different networks even without VPN (tunnelling).

What advantage does this bring for the deployment of innovaphone in everyday life? For example, an em­ployee in the fi eld can immediately access the central PBX and make calls with myPBX for Android at any Internet access point. It needs no extra confi guration, does not require a tunnel to be set up and provides the necessary security.

The authentication protocol IEEE 802.1 x. provides a very different kind of security. Version 11 now also sup­ports EAP­TLS. A network with public access points can control network

access for local unknown subscribers. This is neces­sary for networks on a campus – for example, univer­

sities. But also for networks that protect themselves against tampering from inside, behind the firewall.

More and more telephone and fax connections are being converted to IP communications. The transmission can take place over several sections. The T. 38 protocol is intended for the

transmission of fax over IP and has, to date, been supported as a single fax transmission protocol from

innovaphone. A fax could not be sent if one section did not support T.38. However, some providers do not offer T. 38 as a protocol. Fax transmission via the G. 711 protocol has been added for such situa­tions. Version 11 now makes it possible to fax with all providers, even if they do not support the T. 38 fax protocol.

With Version 11, call lists are also available even without Reporting. Especially small gateways, such as IP302 and IP305, benefit from this because they can now offer call lists

even without a separate server. To date, call lists used the innovaphone Reporting solution, which

required the installation of a Linux Application plat­form. Hence, the implementation of call lists has become much easier for small installations. If you decide in favour of the ´small´ call list version without the Linux Application platform and without Reporting, you go without LDAP name resolution, only the names of subscribers from the PBX are resolved.

The previous test licenses will be replaced by a new concept, which allows all customers to try out the full potential of the innovaphone PBX IP telephone and Unified Communica­

tions solution, without risk. All licenses are enabled with all functions for three months on any gateway and can be used at will to sample the solution. This possi­bility can be used once per gateway. No further test licenses can be enabled on this gateway.

A new test mode is available for developers and engi­neers. The first­ever test mode in V11 works without a connection to my.innovaphone. It only requires a restart after 8 hours. After which, the license is again enabled for another 8 hours. Working with the innova­phone test environment is now both more convenient and more effective.
