GUEST PASSES The fee for a guest pass is $10 per day for individuals ages 16 and up and $5 per day for children ages 15 and under. For longer term arrange-ments, please visit Membership Services in Gregory Gym 2.204.

TOWEL SERVICETowel Service is available for purchase by any RecSports member and currently enrolled students. The fee for towel service is $20 per semes-ter. Up to two towels may be checked in and out at the GRE front desk, the GRE Gym Store or the RSC front desk by presenting your UT ID or RecSports ID.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING Learn water and land rescue skills, first aid for injuries and sudden illnesses, spinal injury management, swimmer and facility sur-veillance, and CPR and emergency care. (28 hours) Prerequisites: Minimum 15 years of age, able to swim 300 continuous yards, and must surface dive up to 10 feet and retrieve a 10 lb. brick.

CHALLENGES—ADULT CPR/AED, FIRST AID OR CPR–PR/HPReceive individual testing to be re–certified in Adult CPR/AED, First Aid or CPR-PR/HP. Participants must prepare in advance; no review or instruction will be provided. (Length varies) Prerequisites: Cur-rent or recent certification in challenged course is preferred.

ADVENTURE TRIPSRegister online or in GRE 2.204. Mandatory pre-trip meetings offer you the opportunity to meet your guides and fellow participants, and discuss specific trip logistics and food planning. Trips are rated by skill level with most designed for beginners. Transportation, equipment and food are provided on weekend and extended trips for a worry-free experience. WILDERNESS LEADERSHIP TRAINING Registration for all courses is open.

WILDERNESS MEDICINEThe UT RecSports Wilderness Leadership Training Program is collaborating with the Wilderness Medicine Institute (WMI) of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) to provide high quality, challenging and intensive wilderness medicine training certification courses. WMI will teach wilderness medicine practices and protocols that are supported by a physician-based medical advisory panel and disseminated by their curriculum director. These courses will challenge your decision-making skills through rigorous and intensive scenarios and interactive lectures. Our selection of courses is designed to meet the needs of the weekend warrior or the professional outdoor leader.

WILDERNESS FIRST AID–(WMI)If you plan to spend time in the backcountry you need to be prepared. Fast paced and hands-on, this two-day course covers a wide range of wilderness medicine topics for people who travel and work in the outdoors.

WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER– (WMI) Essential for anyone who spends significant time in remote places or who has a professional career in the outdoors, this course will prepare you to manage patients in the backcountry for multiple days. The 10-day curriculum encompasses a wide range of topics including long-term patient care, wound management, reducing dislocations, litter packaging and administering medications.

Surfing and Sea Turtle Service Trip– Costa RicaMay 23–June 1Discover the rich and wonderful diversity of the Costa Rican wilderness and help save endangered sea turtles by joining RecSports on this unique adventure. By day our group will take surfing lessons and explore the warm water breaks of area beaches. Evenings will be spent monitor-ing sea turtle nesting habitat, collecting eggs, releasing hatchlings and improving refuge facilities. We will also sea kayak the mangrove forests of “Playa Boca Damas,” raft the Class III-IV Rio Pacuare and rappel down a 120-foot waterfall. To register, previous RecSports trip participation is required as well as a brief interview with the coordinator of the Outdoor Recreation Program.

TRIP ESSENTIALS

Trip registration is open to current UT students, RecSports members and non-members.

All trip participants must provide proof of medical insurance. Current students without medical insurance have the option to purchase insurance through UT at a cost of $2 per day.

All trip prices reflect the UT student and RecSports member/ non-member price.

Priority registration dates will be offered to UT students on all extended trips.

Pre-trip meetings are mandatory and take place in the Rental Center (GRE 2.104).

CLIMBING WALL GRE 1.108The Climbing Wall, offering 1,600 square feet of climbing space, is open to currently enrolled UT students and RecSports members. To participate, climbers must purchase a day or semester pass. All passes include use of climbing shoes. Climbing passes are available for purchase online or in GRE 2.204.

ROCK CLIMBING 101: $35This introductory class includes two 2-hour sessions introducing new climbers to the movement, physiology and dynamics of rock climbing. Participants will also learn terminology, knots and “top-rope” belay technique while scaling the heights of the Gregory Gym Climbing Wall.

GROUP EXERCISE CLASSESCurrently enrolled students and RecSports members are eligible to participate and must purchase the appropriate pass(es). Passes allow participation in all classes listed in the respective schedule(s) and are available for purchase online or in Gregory Gym 2.204.

TEXERCISE (GROUP EXERCISE) CLASSESA TeXercise or Combo Pass allows participation in any of the 100+ weekly fitness and mind/body TeXercise classes offered.

AQUA CLASSESThese water-based fitness classes are a great way to get fit. They are separate from the TeXercise schedule and require an Aqua pass.

PRC SCHEDULEAll classes are held in the Pickle Research Campus (PRC) Gymnasium from 12:35–1:30pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. A PRC pass is required for participation.

POLICIES FOR TEXERCISE, AQUA AND PRC PARTICIPANTS Participants in all TeXercise classes must bring a towel to class for sanitary purposes.

Participants must purchase the appropriate pass to participate.

Pass holders should request a laminated pass from the ID scanner for each class they are attending. It must be presented to the staff member at the studio door. (Not required at PRC.)

Due to safety concerns for all participants, no entry is allowed five minutes after the start time.

Love Your Body Week: Feb 21–25Take a week to celebrate your body and all of the incredible things that it can do by participating in Love Your Body Week activities. Let RecSports and University Health Services raise your awareness about the dangers of eating disorders and the need for better prevention efforts, as well as early intervention and treatment. Event details will be posted at www.healthyhorns.utexas.edu and on the RecSports Web site as we approach Feb. 21–25, 2011.

CANCELLATIONS FOR TEXERCISE, GROUP CYCLING, AQUA & PRC Jan. 29: No Cycling classes on this Saturday due to an instructor certification class.

March 5: No TeXercise classes in RSC 1.106 and no cycling classes on this Saturday due to the Volleyball Playday event.

March 14–20: A revised (spring break) TeXercise schedule will run during this time and the RSC will be closed, therefore no group cycling classes will be held during the break. Cycling passholders will have access to TeXercise classes March 14–20.

April 23–24: No classes of any kind will be offered (Sat/Sun) due to the holiday weekend.

May 6: The 4pm Group Cycling class and the 5:30pm classes in GRE S and RSC 1.106 will be canceled for our student staff appreciation event.

Additional cancellations may occur and will be posted online and on the studio doors.

GROUP CYCLING CLASSES With amazing cardio challenges at varying speeds and resistance levels, hill climbs, flat runs and sprints, group cycling classes are beneficial for all fitness levels. Participants must have a Cycling or Combo pass to participate.

CYCLING CLASS INFORMATION & POLICIES Participants must bring a towel and water bottle to every class. Please fill rows 1 & 2 before row 3.

A current Cycling or Combo pass is required.

Brick class (see class descriptions) has limited spots available because it is also attended by participants of our “Tri A Triathlon” group training series.

Pass holders should request a laminated pass from the ID scanner at the entrance of the facility and provide the pass to the staff member at the door in order to enter the class.

Participants are encouraged to arrive five minutes prior to class to set up on bikes and record settings.

Due to safety concerns for all participants, no entry is allowed five minutes after the start time.

The use of personal music players (iPods, MP3s, etc.) is not permitted.

RUN A 10K 12 SESSIONS $150 for members/$204* This six-week group training series is designed to prepare participants for the Capitol 10K (March 27, 2011) or the Longhorn 10K (April 7, 2011). The beginners group will work on base building to run a 10K. The inter-mediate group (for people who can run a 5K) will build base, sharpen and taper during the series. On days when the group does not meet, participants will work from a training plan developed by a certified running coach. Participants will meet at Clark Field. No previous experience necessary. Learn how to count and cue music, the necessary elements of a fitness class, how to teach multiple formats (ex: kickboxing, step, strength), and how to teach proper form and technique. This series serves as a foundation to seek a national group fitness certification. Attendance at all sessions is critical. (No classes during spring break)

Appointments are required and available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7–9pm at Gregory Gym or in the Personal Training Studio located at the Recreational Sports Center (1.145). This package includes an initial and follow-up consultation. Each appointment is 45 minutes in duration.

PILATES REFORMER SERIES Participants must be current UT students or RecSports members.Lengthen and strengthen your body with the Pilates Reformer machine. No previous experience necessary. Classes are limited to five participants, allowing individualized attention and fantastic results at an incredible price. All sessions are held in GRE North Studio. ELIGIBILITYIntramural events are open to currently enrolled UT students and UT faculty/staff with a RecSports membership. Specific eligibility requirements for events may apply. For complete eligibility information please consult the Intramural Policies and Procedures Manual.

FORM A TEAM / JOIN A TEAMForm your own team with friends or register as a free agent. Free agents (individuals looking for a team) have three options: 1) check the RecSports Web site for a list of other eligible free agents and contact them about forming a team, 2) wait for a team captain to contact them, or 3) attend games after the season begins to find teams looking for players. Please note that RecSports does not form teams for free agents.

REGISTRATION Registration for basketball begins Dec. 6, 2010. Registration for all other events begins Jan. 18, 2011. Register online or in GRE 2.204. Participants will be asked to complete entry information with the following: name, EID, e-mail and phone number. Team sport registration will also require the selection of a team name, the designation of a team captain and selection of a league (day/time) in which to play. Entry fees must be paid at the time of registration. Credit cards (VISA, MasterCard) are accepted online. Cash and check payments are only accepted in GRE 2.204.

TEAM SPORT LEAGUESTeam sport leagues feature several divisions for Men’s, Women’s and Coed teams. The different divisions are Orange, White, Greek Council, Graduate, Coed, Graduate Coed and Women’s. Many sports offer competitive and recreational leagues in each division and games are typically played Sunday–Thursday.

INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENTS/ SPECIAL EVENTSSeveral Individual/Dual sports including racquetball and tennis will be offered. These sports usually consist of Men’s, Women’s and Coed divisions, and often include both singles and doubles play.

SPORT CLUBSSport clubs are officially sponsored by the University through the Division of Recreational Sports and are part of The University of Texas Sport Club Association (UTSCA). A club may be instructional, recreational or competitive or may involve any combination. Each club is formed, developed, governed and administered by the student membership of that particular club working in conjunction with the Sport Club office. The key to the success of this program is student leadership, interest, involvement and participation.

LIGHTNING WARNING SYSTEM The system is active during the operating hours of the following facilities: Clark Field, Clark Field Basketball Courts, Gregory Gym Aquatic Complex, Whitaker Fields and Whita-ker Tennis Courts. In the event of dangerous conditions, the lightning warning system will give one long horn blast, accompanied by a flash-ing light. Once the dangerous conditions have passed, three short horn blasts will sound and the flashing light will cease. Participants should seek shelter when the warning is given.
