    ACCREDITATIONThe programs at Pickens Technical College are approved jointly by the Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System and by the Aurora PubSchools Board of Education. The school operates under the governance of the Aurora Public School Board of Education and is member of, and accredited by, thNorth Central Association of Colleges and Schools as listed in the NCA Vocational/Adult Schools Directory.

    ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTSAs an Area Vocational School, Pickens Technical College provides Career & Technical education for both adult (post-secondary) and high school students. Post-econdary enrollment is available to any person, 16 years of age or older, regardless of their previous academic achievement or grade/degree levels attained.

    We serve students from throughout Colorado, as well as from across the United States and the world. Our primary prerequisite is a desire to learn and work hardo achieve your academic and career goals!

    This schedule is designed for Post-Secondary/adult students. High school students should see their high school counselor for information on available programsnd for registration details.

    RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTSTo qualify for in-state tuition, a student (or the parents or legal guardian if the student is under 23 years old and not emancipated) must have been domiciled inColorado for 12 or more continuous months immediately preceding the first day of classes. Domicile for tuition purposes is determined by two factors: the ability how a permanent place of residence in Colorado and the ability to demonstrate intent to remain in Colorado. Several ways to prove intent to remain includeroviding evidence such as:

    A. Paying Colorado income taxesB. Being permanently employed in Colorado

    C. Owning residential Colorado real estateD. Holding a Colorado drivers license or vehicle registrationE. Registering to vote

    NON-COLORADO RESIDENTS may attend Pickens Technical College, but under the provisions of the Colorado Statute 23-7-101 to 104, must pay out-of-state tuition whennrolled in state supported programs, which is two times the in-state rate.

    MMIGRANT AND NON-IMMIGRANT ALIENSmmigrant and non-immigrant aliens must show their Permanent Resident card or visa to determine residency for tuition purposes.

    MILITARY PERSONNELActive duty military personnel and their dependents upon moving to Colorado on a (PCS) basis are eligible for resident tuition rates.

    ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCYEnglish is the language used in all programs. Therefore, a basic ability to read, understand, write and speak English is essential for the student to be able toucceed.

    DROP/WITHDRAWAL PROCEDURESA student may officially drop from a class or program during the first 15 percent of class without having a grade recorded. Students who withdraw from class

    program after the first 15 percent are not eligible for tuition refund, and will have a grade of W recorded in the permanent records.

    Students who plan to discontinue class attendance should complete a withdrawal form in person at the Registration Office as soon as possible after the decisionas been made to discontinue attendance.

    Students may not withdraw from a course after 75 percent of the scheduled time of the course has been completed. A letter grade will be given.

    A students record will not be released until the drop/withdrawal procedure is completed. It is the students responsibility to keep the Registration Office informed ony change in class schedule.

    Veterans and Students on Financial Aid Programs must notify the Pickens Technical College Financial Aid Office immediately of withdrawals, drops, or anyhanges in the program or class schedules. Notification of changes must be sent to funding agencies. Please contact the Financial Aid Office for assistance.

    PROCEDURE TO WITHDRAW FROM A CLASS/PROGRAMWhen a student registers for a class or program, space is reserved under the assumption the student plans to complete the course(s). A student record is

    tarted in the Registration Office computer.

    To drop or withdraw from a class or an entire program, the student must go the Registration/Records Office to have an official drop/withdrawal form completeTelephone requests are not accepted.)

    When a student drops or withdraws completely from the school, the registration receipt, which verifies financial information, and is used as studentdentification, must be surrendered to the Registration Office. It will be replaced with a copy of the drop/withdrawal form.

    Until a student officially drops or withdraws at the Registration Office, the enrollment remains active with absences and grades recorded.

    SCHEDULE CHANGESThe school reserves the right to cancel, discontinue, reschedule or combine classes, and to change instructors. Classes may be discontinued prior to the first orecond scheduled meeting if fewer than the required minimum number of students enroll.

    CLASS CANCELLATIONSStudents should refer to the student calendar to determine when classes have been cancelled for school scheduled activities. In the case of emergency closing

    f school or the onset of storm conditions, radio stations KOSI-AM 101 or KOA-AM 850 will be notified regarding school closings.

    TUITION & FEES PAYMENTTuition and fees are paid in full at the time of registration. Tuition and fees may be paid by cash, check, Master Card or Visa.

    Students registering jointly with another school will pay the full tuition and fees at Pickens Technical College, as advertised. All financial obligations to Pickens Techrom previous terms must be paid prior to continuing or re-enrollment.

    FINANCIAL AIDinancial Aid is available in various forms through state and federal funding for students demonstrating documented need. Application materials are available at thinancial Aid Office. It takes up to four weeks to make a determination of eligibility -- apply early. For more information on programs, eligibility and availability,onsult the Financial Aid Handbook and the catalog.

    REFUND POLICYThe refund policy for Pickens Technical College is based on the fact that tuition provides approximately 25 percent of the cost of education. When a student enroll

    n a program/class, he/she reserves a place which cannot be made available to another student until he/she officially drops the program/class. In addition, atudents original enrollment represents a sizable cost to the State of Colorado whether or not he/she continues in the program/class. To be eligible for a tuitionefund, a student must officially drop the program/class and apply for a refund within the refund time period. There is a processing period of approximately three our weeks from the time a student requests a tuition refund to the time the refund check is mailed.

    One hundred percent(100%) refund, less $20.00 processing fee, is granted to students for classes dropped from the first day of class through refund date.Refund date is the date when 15% of the semester has occurred.

    No refund will be given for fees and other obligations not retrievable by the institution.

    No refund will be given once 15% or more of the semester has elapsed.

    When the class section is canceled due to lack of enrollment or other causes, the school will notify the students who are entitled to a 100% refund. Studentsmay come to the Registration/Records Office and choose from the class sections still available to substitute for the canceled class or apply for a refund.

    Records will not be released until all obligations to Pickens Technical College are fulfilled.

    A student receiving financial aid who withdraws during the semester may be required to repay a portion of the financial aid. For more informatioconcerning the methods of determining when a repayment may be due, contact the Financial Aid Office or refer to the Financial Aid Handbook .

    Students whose tuition is being paid by an agency or third party are responsible for their tuition if the agency or third party does not pay.

    DEFERRED PAYMENT PLANA deferred payment plan is available to those students whose tuition is equal to or greater than $300. One-half of the tuition and a $10 processing fee is to be pat the time of registration. The remainder of the contract is due 30 days from the date of registration. The contract is signed by the student or legal guardian for thnpaid balance. Students not paying the balance due by the due date will not be allowed to re-enroll until the balance is paid in full and transcripts will not be

    ssued. Students may be withdrawn from a class for non-payment.

    ADVISINGPickens Technical College has licensed counselors & support staff that are available to discuss your options and utilize valuable career, personality and interesturveys to help you choose the career/educational path that is best suited to your individual situation.

    The Advising/Counseling Staff are available to meet with students prior to and during registration to assist in the selection of classes or programs. A variety ofervices are available to students needing assistance in exploring career options. Inquiries should be made through the Counseling Office, 303-344-4910, whenhese services are desired so that appointments can be arranged. It is the responsibility of the student to seek the above services.

    AWARDING OF PROGRAM CERTIFICATESStudents who have completed all certificate program requirements, who have met the specifications set forth in the Standards of Receiving a Certificate ofCompletion, and who have completed all financial obligations to Pickens Technical College are eligible to receive a Certificate of Completion.

    PICKENS TECHNICAL COLLEGE/COMMUNITY COLLEGE ARTICULATIONSStudents desiring to complete an Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) degree program, should complete the course for a certificate at Pickens TechnicalCollege and general education and/or other degree requirements at the participating community college from which the degree is earned. Depending on the cou

    f study, credit in varying amounts from Pickens Technical College certificates can be applied toward the A.A.S. Management (Tech Management Emphasis) orAssociate of Applied Science Applied Technology Degrees at the community colleges. Each Applied Technology and Applied Management Degree requires theompletion of 60 semester hours. A maximum of 42 credits may be accepted by Community College of Aurora; the number varies by the certificate program and thegree selected.

    n instances where the Pickens Technical College certificate program is less than 42 credits, sufficient credit must be earned through the Community College tomeet the 60 credit hour minimum requirement for the Applied Technology degree. A minimum of 18 credits must be earned at the Community College to meet the0 credit hour minimum requirement for the Applied Technology degree.

    The Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S.) prepares students for career-ready employment in a given occupation or for upgrading skills. While theserograms are not intended to fully transfer to baccalaureate degree programs, some courses may be accepted toward a bachelors degree at colleges andniversities. Students are strongly urged to consult an academic advisor at the college of your choice and to consult the transfer guides and catalogs for theespective institutions.

    WORK-BASED LEARNING

    Pickens Technical College offers supervised work-based learning (e.g., internships, clinicals, apprenticeships, job shadowing, etc.) in most program areas. Somere program required, others are optional. These could be either paid or unpaid. In the case of unpaid work experience, on-the-job coverage for all PickensTechnical College interns will be provided through the Aurora Public Schools Workers Compensation Insurance. For more information regarding specific programsnd supervised work experience opportunities, please contact the Counseling Office at 303-344-4910.

    SAFETY EQUIPMENTPersonal safety equipment, i.e., protective clothing, uniforms, safety glasses, welding gloves, etc., is required in several programs. Students will be advised bynstructors concerning safety equipment requirements. This equipment will be available for student purchase in the bookstore.

    DENTIFICATION CARDSAll students at are required to have a Pickens Technical College Identification card visible at all times while on campus. ID cards are available in the registrationrea; replacement ID cards cost $5.00.

    BOOKSTOREThe bookstore hours are 7:45a.m.- 2:00p.m. Monday through Friday when classes are in session. Please call to arrange the pickup of books or supplies if you arenable to visit during regular hours. ID cards are required for all purchases from the Pickens Technical College Bookstore.

    ATTENDANCE POLICYRegular attendance is required of all students in order to retain enrollment status and earn course credit. Excessive absences may cause failure of the coursend/or dismissal from the class. See catalog for Attendance Policy.Note: Attendance at every class, including the first, is important for student success .

    STUDENT CONDUCTStudents are expected to conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner. See Student Conduct in the post-secondary catalog.

    MULTIMEDIA DESIGN

    The Multimedia Design program prepares students for a variety of print and digital related career paths that include graphic design, web design, illustration,layout and print design. First semester students will focus on design principles, the study of typography and color theory practices as well as learn how to usetwo software components for photo manipulation and digital art creation. Second semester students will learn to operate a variety of cutting edge softwareprograms used by designers in conjunction with design related projects based around logo design, web design, animation and illustration.
