Major Professional Achievements

Extensive research in understanding solvent extraction process of various oilseeds, and implementing the knowledge in making commercial process more beneficial.

Development of various texturised soy protein products, customized for different international markets.

Phenomenal cost reduction of various texturised soy protein products by modifying the production processes, reducing rate of rejection, and controlling the raw material quality.

Product development and technical marketing of a range of table and catering margarines i.e. cake, bread and pastry margarines, butter/cream substitute in ice cream manufacturing and low fat spreads.

Based on contemporary knowledge of fats in human nutrition, designed and developed blended oils for different segments of markets.

Commercialization of new products e.g. baking powder, soy protein concentrate (physical separation process), soy fiber, textured vegetable proteins and weaning foods.

Laboratory/pilot level development of egg substitute in baking, food supplements for expecting and lactating women, soy milk based ice creams, soy protein isolates and powdered soy lecithin (using membrane filtration technique), animal feed concentrates like fish meal substitute and milk booster for rumens (using by-pass protein and fat concepts).

Developed innovative rapid analytical procedures for the attributes important in process optimization viz. oil content, protein dispersibility index, protein& fiber in solvent extracted oilseeds, phosphorus in oil.

Development/improvement of various Quality Management systems like ISO 9001:2000, HACCP and Identity Preservation.

Present Status (Since July 2007):

Recently, I am working as General Manager QC/R&D at Sakthi Sugars Ltd. – Soya Division. The company is engaged in processing and marketing of various soybean based products. I act here as Management Representative. Responsible to form, implement and sustain the management systems.

Overseas Experience:

I got international opportunity to act as ‘Team Leader – Research and Development’ by Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd., P.O. Box 239, Thika 01000, KENYA, where I worked for 2& ½ years. The Bidco has its oilseeds and oil and fats processing units in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. It fulfills substantial oils & fats demand of East Africa. I was responsible to lead the team of Research and Development Department and reporting directly to the Board of Directors.

Overall Professional Experience:

Led R&D and QA/QC departments of various Bulk& FMCG manufacturing organizations since 1986.

The foremost experience is contributed by edible oil, oilseed and protein food manufacturing but have splendid experience in other food processing as well.

Conversant with a number of processes for controls and optimization of overall equipment effectiveness.

o Solvent extraction of various oilseeds and value addition processes viz. de-hulling and flesh de-solventization.

o Physical and chemical refining of edible oils and processing of by-products.o Extrusion process for manufacturing of textured vegetable protein food products.o Production of vegetable/hardened fats and their emulsified products. o Soap and detergent manufacturing.o Food ingredients manufacturing viz. various types of soy flours, baking powder, ready

Lingual Skills - Have proficiency in written and spoken English; mother tongue is Hindi. Computer Proficiency - Have adequate knowledge to use the computer in day-to-day

functions. I have extensively used MS-Word, Excel and Power Point. Hobbies - Represented college table tennis team as captain in inter collegiate tournaments.

Detailed Career History

Before taking-up my present assignment, I worked for more than 21 years in Research & Development and Quality Control Departments of oilseeds processing, edible oil refining and food processing industries/ association.

2005 - 2007:

I obtained an international opportunity to act as ‘Team Leader – Research and Development’ by Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd., P.O. Box 239, Thika 01000, KENYA. Tel: +254 67 281000, Mail: [email protected].

Bidco has its oilseeds and oil and fats processing units in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. It fulfills substantial oils & fats demand of East Africa. I was responsible to lead the team of Research and Development Department and reported directly to the Board of Directors.

Major Achievements:

Development of New Whole range Products of Catering Margarines (Cake, Bread and Pastry Margarines) and Table Margarine.

Development of Whole Range of Blended oils for different income groups of society.

Development of Baking Powder.

Significant modifications in the soap and detergent products with increased acceptability and cost reduction point of views.

I was overall responsible to form, implement and improve the quality systems, develop new products with coordination of marketing and production departments and modify the process for better quality and cost reduction. Managing a team of Quality Control Chemists and Process Control Supervisors/ Engineers of 15 people.

Major Achievements:

Development of Soybean Flour based “Egg Replacer” for bakery operations.

Pilot plant studies for Soybean Milk based hard & soft both Ice creams.

Development of products like Soya Protein Concentrate, Soya Fiber and various types of Texturised Vegetable Proteins upto commercial level.

Successful pilot level trials for the production of Soybean Protein Isolate and Soybean Lecithin Powder through membrane filtration system.

Acted as a resource person to provide necessary guidance and training and facilitate to the Quality and Process Control Personnel of all group companies to carryout their duties in order to meet the company’s “Defect free Production” goal.

Providing information regarding processing and utilization and analysis of soybean and its products to related organizations, industries and individuals.

Organized and also took part in many technical seminars/ other events.

Got the opportunity to closely watch the entire soybean system of country from the farmer’s field to auction market, processing units, transporting agencies, port operations and even users and customer plants.

1988–96

1991-96

Promoted as- ‘Quality Control In-charge’ at Taparia Exports Pvt. Ltd., Reported to the Director. The unit was involved in manufacturing and export of traditional Indian snacks.

Major activities and achievements:

Managed all Quality Control and product development activities, headed a team of 3 Quality Control people; assigning them tasks, and motivating them to meet deadlines.

Cost reduction: achieved 60% reduction of processing cost by re-designing the dough sheet cutter.

1988-91

Sr. Chemist at Maheshwari Nutrients Ltd. Worked at corporate laboratory.

Major activities and achievements:

Random quality check of products of group companies, shelf-life studies and demonstrate the quality assurance procedures to customers on office visits.

Development of soy based supplementary food product for expecting mothers.

1987-88

Joined as Apprentice and later promoted as Jr. Supervisor R & D at The Hukamchand Mills Ltd. It is an integrated textile plant for cotton and synthetic fabrics. Activities:

Testing of dyes, pigments, chemicals & auxiliaries and other utilities.

Evolve a new analytical procedure for the estimation of blend of viscose/ polynosic with the cotton

1986; 1/2 Yr

Trainee Chemist at The Malwa Vanaspathi & Chemicals Co. Ltd. It is the oldest unit in Western India for solvent extraction, edible oil refining and hydrogenation.
