Introduction15608 was collected by rake from the Terrace on therim of Hadley Rille (see section on 15614). It is abasalt with unusual texture interpreted as the result ofrapid cooling at the edge of a lava flow. Hey, guys, itdeserves some study.

PetrographyRyder (1985) describes this particle as the chilledmargin of a lava flow. It consists of numerous skeletalpigeonite mcirophenocrysts in a finer-grained varioliticgroundmass of pyroxene, plagioclase and opaqueminerals (figure 2 and 3). One edge of the particle is abeautiful example of “comb layering”. Fine parallelcrystals of pyroxene project towards the edge.Beautiful radial clusters have formed around nucleationcenters

There are clusters of olivine crystals in the center.

ChemistryNone reported

ProcessingThere are three thin sections of this particle.
