The students enjoyed: Identifying different ways the stories were narrated and heard in the pre- historic times by gathering around fire. Gradually how stories were narrated through books . How stories are depicted through movies in modern times. Students gained knowledge on many facts related to the origin of storytelling with shamans. They enjoyed the story of ’Rapunzel’ narrated in different ways to them like the tribal- shamans, with books and finally the stories narrated through movies. 6th - 10th August , 2012

How we express ourselves Central idea Stories can engage their audience and communicate meaning.

An Inquiry into What a story is

Skills and concepts covered in this week The Unit began with a tuning in activity using a variety of audio-visuals

and oral communication .

The students enjoyed: Identifying different ways the stories were narrated and heard in the pre-

Pre-reading skills were enhanced through a group discussion and

brainstorming on books such as ’ Happy’, ‘Sad’, ‘Rapunzel’.

Students were introduced to letter S through Phonics program. They were

involved in a variety of activities such as recognition, tracing, colouring

and writing of letter S.

Pre-writing skills - Practice on pre-writing skills were given for adequate

eye-hand co-ordination, strengthening of finger and wrist muscles for controlled movement with pencil and to have a sense of direction from left to right and

top to bottom.

Vocabulary Introduced - Happy, Sad, Angry, School, Bus, Caring,

Sharing, Sun, Star, Sandwich, Socks, Summer, Saturday, Sunday, Seal, Snail,

Snake, Six, Seven.

Introduction to number 1 was done through different learning

engagements. They practiced tracing and writing number 1.

Students were shown an audio visual of a story- ‘Sher Aur Chuha’. Introduction to colour ‘ laal (Red) was done through flashcards and

manipulatives.

Information Communication Technology

During the introductory ICT classes, Nursery students were exposed to different parts of a computer through a video at http://www.growing.course.com/level_K/computer_parts/index.html and were ex-

plained the importance, role and usage of computers in our lives through discussions.

They were also familiarized with the ICT room and the equipment lying there.

Music

Students practised singing of simple major scales in as-

cending and descending order in both, western and Indian

music class, in addition to simple rhymes and songs.

Small percussion instruments were introduced to the stu-

dents. As preparations for Independence Day celebra-

tions got underway, students practiced singing of the In-

dian National Anthem.

Special assembly was held on account of Krishna Janamashtami (birth of Lord Krishna).

SOME ESSENTIALS

Please send an extra pair of clothes for change. This

will be kept in school. Please send an old large t-shirt for the art work in

class. The week’s work will be sent home every Friday.

This work is for parents review and should be

brought back on Monday.

Swimming classes will now be on every

MONDAY.
