EDITORIAL
FROM THE DESK OF THE MANAGEMENT REPRESENTATIVE
O n Friday 28th March, I attended a
workshop “ Listening to Shakespeare”
conducted by Prof Jonathan Gil Harris
organised by Ashoka University for
introducing students to liberal learning, along
with our IBDP 1 students and our English
teacher Mr Fred Machage.
William Shakespeare (1564-1616), “ THE
BARD OF AVON” is one of the finest English playwrights
and poets in history. His stories and plays attract the audience
and readers even today not because his plots were extraordinary
but because of his language, his play with words, his imagery
and his fascinating characters that display various shades of
human emotions. Indeed Shakespeare, the great had an in depth
knowledge of human behaviour and psychology.
Shakespeare lived in the Elizabethan Age (Renaissance
Period). He has written about 154 Sonnets (14 lined
poems) and many highly successful plays. Some of his
famous plays are Hamlet, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet,
Macbeth (considered as one of his darkest and most
powerful tragedies), Othello, Merchant of Venice and so
on.
There is a kind of phobia in children to read Shakespeare‟s
language as it is not in modern English. This myth / bubble
was busted by Prof. Harris successfully when he analysed and explained the Shakespearean
language. Our students thoroughly enjoyed this new learning experience and interacted
enthusiastically.

GEARING UP FOR GRADE 5 EXHIBITION!!!
P reparations for grade 5 Exhibition are well
underway. For students this is the highlight of
their school journey and a culmination of all the
skills and concepts they have learned over their years in
the PYP.
This year the students are planning their Exhibition
under the PYP trans-disciplinary theme of How We
Express Ourselves. This involves an inquiry into the
ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings,
nature, culture, beliefs and values, the ways in which we
reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity and our
appreciation of the aesthetic.
Students are currently on the look out for "What
Matters" to them and are collecting ideas for what they
may want to investigate during Exhibition.
Over a period of 6-7 weeks the students will be taking
full ownership of their learning and inquire into global issues that are relevant in today‟s
world. They will write questions, cite interesting quotes, draw pictures, create poems etc and
present their learning to parents and the wider community.
The Exhibition is indeed an impressive feat for our Grade 5 students!
