1.0 RATIONALE

A uniform statement reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instils recognition of themselves as an integral part of the Kilvington school community, and assists in developing pride in representing their School. Issues of equality, health and safety, and expense are also factors that contribute to the establishment of the uniform policy.

2.0 AIMS

• Tofurtherdevelopasenseofpridein,andidentificationwith our School.

• Toprovidedurableclothingthatiscosteffectiveandpractical for our school environment.

• Tomaintainandenhancethepositiveimageofthe School in the community.

3.0 UNIFORM STATEMENT

When in School uniform, at School or in public, students are required to adhere to the following:

• CorrectSchooluniformmustbewornwhentravellingtoand from School. The jumper is not to be worn as an outer garment at any time to and from School. Students are to wear the School blazer as the outer garment to and from School in winter and summer. This is optional on hot days in summer.

• Studentsneedtobeneatandtidyinappearance.

• Uniformsneedtobeclean,pressedandingoodrepair.

• Schoolshoesaretobeblack,ofatraditionalleatherstyleand must be polished regularly. T-bars are to be buckled. Boots are not permitted. Heel height should be flat.

• AKilvingtonschoolbagappropriatetotheyearlevelisrequired. If a ‘wheelie’ type bag is preferred, it must be navy blue or black.

• Make-upandcolourednailvarnisharenotpartoftheSchool uniform and are not to be worn.

• Studentsaretohaveacleanshavenappearanceatalltimes.

• Theonlyjewelleryallowedtobewornisawristwatch and two pairs of plain small studs or sleepers.

• Winterskirts,tunicsandsummerdressesaretobejustabove the knee or longer.

• Hairthattouchestheshouldersforallstudentsisto be tied back off the face.

• Extremehairstylesandcoloursarenotacceptable.

• Hairribbons.head-bandsandbowsmustbewhite, navy or magenta and without decoration.

• ForHouseorSchoolCarnivals,sportuniformmaybeworn to and from School and for the day. House polo must be worn for House Carnivals.

• Year9studentsmaywearthesportuniform,whichincludes the Year 9 t-shirt, to School all day on Fridays.

• Thejumperisnotacompulsoryuniformitem,butifworn:

Special Events

• ForSchoolphotographs,summeruniformwithblazer is to be worn.

• AllstudentsparticipatingintheAnnualConcertneedtowear winter uniform. This includes long pants, winter skirt/ tunic and blazers for all students.

• ForCelebrationNight,studentsaretowearcompulsorysummer uniform with their blazer and without their jumper.

Winter Uniform for Students in Prep to Year 12

• Winteruniformistobewornbetween1Mayand15September. For the remainder of the year, summer or winter uniform may be worn.

• ThecompulsorywinteruniformforboysconsistsoftheKilvington blazer, Kilvington winter shirt and Kilvington trousers or shorts with black socks.

• ThecompulsorywinteruniformforSeniorSchoolgirlsconsists of the Kilvington blazer, Kilvington winter shirt, Kilvington skirt with black opaque tights or Kilvington girl’s trousers or shorts with black socks.

• ThecompulsorywinteruniformforJuniorSchoolgirlsconsists of the Kilvington blazer, Kilvington winter shirt and Kilvington skirt or tunic with black tights, or Kilvington girl’s trousers or shorts with black socks.

• Kilvingtontrousersmustbeappropriatelyhemmedand are not to be worn with cuffs rolled up.

• Allotherwinteruniformitemsareoptional.

• Studentsmaywearthesummershirtinwinterbut,forYears 5 to 12, it must be worn with a tie.

• StudentsfromYears5to12wearties.Tiesneedtobeworn properly in and out of School with the winter uniform. The top button of the shirt is to be done up whenever the tie is worn.

• OnlytheKilvingtonscarfispermitted(Magentaforgirls.Navy for boys).

• JuniorSchoolgirlsmayweareitherblacktightsorknee-high black socks that must be worn pulled up.

• JuniorandSeniorSchoolgirls’skirtsortunicsmustbe no more than 5cm above the knee.

Summer Uniform for Students in Prep to Year 12

• ThecompulsorysummeruniformforboysconsistsoftheKilvington blazer, Kilvington summer shirt and Kilvington shorts.

• Thecompulsorysummeruniformforgirlsconsistsofthe Kilvington blazer and Kilvington dress, or Kilvington summer shirt and Kilvington shorts.

• Allothersummeruniformitemsareoptional.

• Blazersareoptionalonhotdayswithsummeruniform only in Terms 1 and 4, but must be brought to School for Assembly.

• JuniorSchoolstudentshavea‘NoHat,NoPlay’policy in Terms 1 and 4. The hybrid hat is the only hat to be worn by all students.

• Seniorschoolstudentsarerequiredtowearhatswhenever they are outside for extended periods between September and April.

• Thewinterscarfisnottobewornwiththesummeruniform.

• Whiteshortanklesocksaretobewornwiththesummerdress. Short black socks (plain and with no logos) are to be worn with shorts.

• SeniorSchoolstudentsmayweartrousersinTerms1 and 4, but must be worn with the winter shirt and tie.

Early Learning Centre Uniform

• ThecompulsoryELCuniformconsistsoftheKilvingtonnavy blue polo shirt, Kilvington navy blue shorts, Kilvington tracksuit pants, white socks and sport runners.

• TheKilvingtonlongsleevepoloandpolarfleecejacket are optional extras.

• OnlyKilvingtonuniformitemsaretobewornatSchool.

• ELCstudentshavea‘NoHat,NoPlay’policyinTerms1and 4. ELC students must wear the Kilvington hybrid hat during this time.

Sport Uniform for Students in Prep to Year 12

• SportuniformiswornforPEandSport.

• ThecompulsorysportuniformconsistsoftheKilvingtonnavy blue polo shirt, Kilvington navy blue shorts, House polo shirts (for inter-house sport and PE only), white socks and sport runners. Proper sport runners must be worn – no slip-on shoes or ‘Volleys’ are allowed.

• TheKilvingtonsportjacket,rugbytop,leggingsandtracksuit pants are optional extras.

• SeniorSchoolstudents–OfficialEISMsportcompetitionuniform (provided by the School) must be worn when playing inter-school competitions.

• Years5to6students–Schoolsportuniformmustbeworn when playing in the Balaclava District competition.

• SchoolhatsarecompulsoryforallyearlevelsinPE,Sport, outdoor excursions and camps, and at recess and lunchtime whenever students are outside during Term 1 through to 1 May and 15 September to the end of the year.

• Kilvingtonbathersmustbewornforallinter-schoolcompetitions. Kilvington bathers are not compulsory for inter-House swimming, but girls must wear one-piece bathers. No bikinis are to be worn.

• TheKilvingtonscarfisnottobewornwiththesportuniform.

• Years5to12studentscanwearKilvington-branded3/4leggings to PE, co-curricular clubs, sport training, House and cross-country events. They cannot be worn to EISM events or the Year 9 program on Fridays.

Changing into PE and Sport Uniform

• PESession1or2–Changebeforeschoolandagain at recess.

• PESession3or4–Changeatrecessandagainatlunch.

• PESession6or7–Changeatlunchandagainafterschool.

• PreptoYear6studentsmaywearthesportuniformtoand from School on PE days.

• EISMSportDay–studentsmaywearthePEuniformallday, including arriving to and from School, as long as they areparticipatinginasport.EISMspecificuniformsshouldonly be worn for the actual game.

• EISMtrainingbeforeschool(session0)–studentsmayarrive in complete sport uniform and change into full School uniform before Mentor Group unless they have PE before lunch.

• EISMtrainingatlunch(session5)–studentschangeatrecess and change back into School uniform before the end of the day.

• EISMtrainingafterschool(session8)–studentschange at lunch time.

4.0 IMPLEMENTATION

• TheUniformPolicy,includingdetailsofuniformitems and places of purchase, will be published widely at the start of each year.

WAISTMeasure around the natural waistline which is the narrowest part of your waist. This is an important measurement for trou-sers/pants/shorts & skirts

HIPMeasure around the fullest part of the hips

Size Charts are located on each indivual garment on the website, under the SIZE CHART tab.

To determine the size you need to ADD to your Body Measurements the following:

BLAZERS, DRESSES, TUNICS, SHIRTS, BLOUSES, POLOS and other up-per body garments ADD 10 - 12 cm

TROUSERS, SHORTS, SKIRTS & TUNICS - ADD 5 - 8 cm in the waist. These garments are often adjustable in the waist to allow for extra growth.

A good way to check is to measure & compare a similar garment that is a comfortable fit.
