    UnderhillFest je posveen dugometranim dokumentarnim lmovima nastalim u malim kinematograjama i nezavisnimprodukcijama, lmovima koji su se nametnuli inovativnou, idejom i snagom svojih pria. UnderhillFest kao takavpredstavlja pravi izazov u Crnoj Gori, i u programskom i producentskom smislu.

    Cilj naeg estivala je prvenstveno edukacija javnosti o posebnom mjestu koje ovaj lmski rod uiva u svjetskoj kine-matograji, kao i o moi koju dokumentarni lmovi imaju u predstavljanju i rjeavanju kako onih goruih, tako i onihnaizgled nebitnih, drutvenih problema u svijetu.

    Na estival je u svakom smislu human i drutveno angaovan projekat: izdvojen iz bilo kakvih institucionalizovanihokvira, otvoren, pomalo alternativan i buntovan, namijenjen je iskljuivo slobodnom, radoznalom i kreativnom posjeti-ocu koji voli lmsku umjetnost i koji prepoznaje ozbiljnost problema kojima se dokumentarni lmovi bave. Na estival

    je uspio da nae put do svoje autentine publike, od regularnih ljubitelja dokumentarnog lma, preko studenata eljnihsaznanja o ovom lmskom izrazu, pa do strune javnosti koja doprinosi kolektivnoj lmskoj edukaciji.

    UnderhillFest is dedicated to the ull-length documentaries made in small cinematographies and independent produc-tions, that is, to lms that imposed themselves by innovation, idea and the power o their stories. UnderhillFest, assuch, represents a real challenge in Montenegro, in terms o its program and production.

    The aim o our estival is primarily to educate the public about the special place that this kind o movie enjoys in theworld o cinema, as well as about the power that documentary lms have in representing and addressing both theurgent and seemingly irrelevant social problems in the world.

    Our estival is humane and socially engaged project in every sense: it is set aside rom any institutionalized ramework,open, slightly alternative and rebellious, intended solely or the ree, creative and curious visitor who loves cinema andwho can recognize the seriousness o the problems depicted in documentary lms. Our estival has managed to nd apath to its authentic audience, rom the regular documentary lms lovers, students who want to learn more about thiscinematographic expression, to proessional public contributing to the collective lm education.

    Udahnite dokumentarce

    Dokumentaristi preispituju prolost, kao i dananjost, savremeni svijet. Oni najhrabriji krenu umisiju istine kao kambodanski novinar koji je cijelu deceniju posjeivao ovjeka koji je odgo-voran za smrt njegove porodice, da bi ga tri godine zatim snimao. Oni matoviti, kao Vik Muniz,spremni su da pronau ljepotu i umjetnost tamo gdje je niko ne vidi i sa ljudima koji misle danemaju sposobnost da je stvaraju. Donose prie i o onima koji su sve vrijeme znali da su umjet-nici ak i kada su bili beskunici. Neki govore o loim vladama i njihovim odlukama, nehuma-nim zatvorima, drugi sasvim otvoreno, licem u lice, sa ljudima sa druge strane zakona, njihovim

    pravilima i vezama sa politikom. Neki e vas odvesti na romantino, nestvarno putovanje cepelinom, dok e pojedinipreispitati granice ljubavi.

    Oni provociraju visoke zvaninike, monike, prozivaju nau savjest i rovare po naim emocijama. Tjeraju nas da ponovorazmislimo, da preispitamo naizgled vrsta stanovita. Govore i o kokotima, o zavoenju, lmovima kakve smo voljeli,periodima i ljudima koje smo zaboravili, muzici koja je mnogima promijenila ivote. Poslije ovakvih lmova, neete bitiisti. Ne samo zbog vie nego zbunjujue svijetske medijske slike, ume inormacija iz kojih je teko probrati one pravei istinite, mnogi kau da vrijeme dokumentarnog dugometranog lma u stvari tek dolazi. Autorskog dokumentarnoglma. Takvi dokumentaristi vam serviraju istinu, jo na umjetniki nain. Utisak je da su dokumentarni lmovi ponovodoli na svoje mjesto - u bioskope.     NETO MRDA ISPOD BRDA: DOKUMENTARNI FILM

    Povodom prve edicije UnderhillFest-a

    Evo me uzbuenog, u predveerju novog snimanja; sutradan sedam u auto i odlazim u nepozna-to. Oprema je spremna a kamerman dolazi zorom - novca ima toliko da se pone, snima nekolikodana i posle vidi gde to vodi... Ja volim dokumentarni lm jer je to nain ivota: put pod noge pau nejasno i neizvesno. Dokumentarni lm moe biti urban, prigradski ili nas odvesti u divljinu, rat

    i bespue ali je svakako nomadski, lutalaki, nestacionarni nain ivota i rada koji se odupire industriji, dosadi i poro-bljavanju oveka - sve to je upisano u njegovu sutinu jo pre nego to sumirate rezultate...

    Dokumentar ista se uvek nalazi tamo gde se po njegovom miljenju dogaaju vane stvari, inei nevidljivo vidljivim. Adavati lice nevidljivom je i posao pesnika i maioniara koji u hokus-pokus preobratu mora svojim vruim emocijamaili dimu i magli, dati oblik. Meutim, u dokumentarnom lmu je ziki aspekt preovlaujui - reditelj material uzima izsvakodnevnog, zikog sveta. Zato mora zaroniti u njega, proputovati ga i pipnuti, emocionalno se vezati za aktere isituacije, izloiti samog sebe, esto uinti sebe indirektnim (ali stvarnim) uesnikom nekog drutveno-istorijskog pro-cesa, samo zato da bi ga snimio, dokuio i obznanio. To je esto opasno a uvek je zanimljivo i uvek izazov...

    to je vie stvarnosti, rizika, strasti i linog angaovanja u dokumentarcu, oni su zanimljiviji, jai i ubedljiviji - ble je

    nemogu, akademski ngiran dokumentarac je uglavnom ki. Ali ima tu i drugih stvari... Mene je u avanture doku-mentarnog lma prvenstveno gurala elja za upoznavanjem sveta oko sebe; elja za razgrtanjem ideoloke magle ispoznavanje nepatvorene istine. A istina je uvek revolucionarna.. Obznanjivanje istina o svetu koji nas okruuje je daklepokuaj ureenja tog sveta i borba za odreene vrednosti. To je zadatak svakolike stvarne umetnosti.

    U stara, bogom dana i romantina vremena, kada se je vie panje poklanjalo umetnikoj ormi i jeziku nego istini istvarnosti, dokumentarni lm se je na estivalima pojavljivao zajedno sa svojim igranim sabratom. I ve tada je doku-mentarni lm izazivao specine eekte uzrokovane stvarnom, nesumnjivo aktualnom sadrinom. Naravno, postoje idokumentaristi, a ti su katkad i u veini, koji vie vole bavljenje ormom (zvanom lmski jezik), nego istinom. Suoenjesa stvarnou je uvek teak posao i zato je mnogima umetnost uopte, pa i umetnost dokumentarnog lma, komorani isplativ eskapizam.

    Takvi umetnici nude utoita pred stvarnou i vetake rajeve, a stvarnost preputaju strunjacima ili odgovorni-ma (tj. politiarima). Oni ne veruju ni sebi ni javnosti. Meutim, to, da ste u svom umetnikom radu upueni na deliestvarnosti (stvarne stvarnosti, rekao bih) ipak ini dokumentarni lm posebnom, drutveno angaovanom, i speci-nom umetnou. Da li je sve to potrebno rei u obraanju jednom novom estivalu dokumentarnog lma, posebnoako taj estival uspeno i elekventno progovora ve prvom svojom edicijom, kao to je sluaj sa UnderhillFest-om uPodgorici? Ja mislim da jeste, jer je enomenoloko razmiljanje korisno ako elimo autentino trajanje i razumevanjaodreenih dogaaja...

    There is something shiting under the hill: Documentary flm

    On the occasion o the frst edit ion o Underhill Fest

    Here I am, excited, at the dawn o a new lming session; tomorrow, at seven oclock, I will sit in the car and go intothe unknown. The equipment is ready and the cameraman will come at dawn theres enough money to start, lm ora ew days and later see where it all leads... I like the documentary lm because it is a way o lie: the path is underyour eet, and it leads somewherevague and uncertain. Documentary lm can be urban, suburban, or take us into thewilderness, war or wasteland, but it is certainly a nomadic, wandering, unsteady way o lie and work that resists theindustry, boredom and the enslavement o man - all these aspects are engraved in its essence even beore you sum-

    marize the results...

    Documentarists are always located where important things happen, making the invisible - visible. Giving a ace to in-visible is the work o poets and magicians whose hocus-pocus must convert their emotions or hot smoke and og intoa orm. However, physical aspect prevails in documentary movies director picks material rom the everyday physicalworld. Thereore he has to dive into it, traverse it and touch it, emotionally tying himsel to the actors and situations,exposing himsel, oten turning himsel into an indirect (but real) participant o a socio-historical process, just to get itlmed, comprehended and published. It is oten dangerous, but at the same time always interesting and always a chal-lenge... The more reality, risk, passion and personal involvement in the documentary, the more interesting, stronger

    and more convincing it becomes - blu is impossible, an invented academic documentary is mostly kitsch. But, thereare other things... I was pushed into the adventures o a documentary lm primarily by the desire to learn more aboutthe world around mysel; the desire to clear ideological og and discover the genuine truth. The truth is always revo-lutionary... Publicizing the truth about the world around us is thereore an attempt to arrange the world and ght orcertain values. This is the task o all kinds o real art.

    In the good old romantic days, when we paid more attention to artistic orm and language than to the truth and reality,documentary lm appeared at estivals along with its eature counterpart. And even then the documentary had spe-cic eects caused by the real, doubtlessly actual content. O course, there are documentary lmmakers, sometimesrepresenting the majority, who preer to engage in a orm (called lm language), than to the truth. Conrontation withreality is always a dicult job and that is why many perceive the art in general, and the art o documentary lm, as acomortable and cost-eective escapism. These artists oer a reuge rom the reality and articial paradises, whilereality is let to experts or responsible (i.e. politicians). They do not trust either themselves or the public. However,it is your attachment to the pieces o reality (actual reality, I would say) in artistic work that makes a documentaryspecial, socially engaged, and unique art.

    Is all this necessary to say in an address to a new documentary lm estival, especially i the estival successully andeloquently speaks through its rst edition, as is the case with UnderhillFest in Podgorica? I think it is, because thephenomenological refection is useul i we desire an authentic duration and understanding o certain events...

    OLIVER SERTI (HR)

    Medijski je aktivista, producent i novinar iz Zagreba. Objavljivao i ureivao u tampi, na webu, radi-ju i televiziji. Osniva je RESTART media centra koji se bavi edukacijom, produkcijom i distribucijomsocijalno angaovanog lma i videa. Programski je voditelj jedinog dokumentarnog kina u regiji- Dokukina CROATIA. Reirao je i producirao nekoliko kratkih dokumentarnih lmova. Saraivao

    je i jo sarauje s brojnim lmskim estivalima u regiji kao PR, producent i savjetnik (Zagreb FilmFestival, ZagrebDox, Vukovar Film Festival, Dokuest, DORF...). Selektor je Liburnia Film Festivala,

    Supetar Super Film Festivala, predselektor dokumentarnog programa Zagreb Film Festivala, jedan od selektora HumanRights Film Festivala kao i programski savjetnik Festivala MakeDox, Skoplje. Suosniva je Revije amaterskog lma - RAF,

    Autonomnog kulturnog centra - Attack! i projekta Cross-radio. Trenutno priprema novi dokumentarni lm kao reditelj.

    Oliver Sertic is a media activist, producer and journalist rom Zagreb. He published and edited print, web, radio and tel-evision media. He is the ounder o the RESTART media center that specializes in training, production and distributiono socially engaged lm and video. He is a program manager o the only documentary cinema in the region - DokukinoCROATIA. He has directed and produced several short documentaries and has produced three eature lms in variousstages o production. He cooperated and still cooperates with numerous lm estivals in the region as a PR, producer andconsultant (Zagreb Film Festival, ZagrebDox, Vukovar Film Festival, Dokuest, DORF...). He is a selector o Liburnia FilmFestival, Supetar Super Film Festival, pre-selector o the documentary program o Zagreb Film Festival, one o the selec-tors o the Human Rights Film Festival and program advisor to MakeDox Festival, Skopje. He is a co-ounder o the Reviewo Amateur Film RAF, Autonomous Cultural Center - Attack! and Cross-radio project. He is currently working on a newdocumentary lm as a director.

    PETAR PEJAKOVI (MNE)

    Petar Pejakovi je roen 1970. godine u Kotoru. Osnovnu i srednju kolu zavrio je u Rijeci. NaFilozoskom akultetu u Beogradu je apsolvirao lozoju.Diplomirao je Pozorinu i radio reiju naFakultetu dramskih umetnosti u Beogradu. Od 1999. godine radi na Fakultetu dramskih umjet-nosti na Cetinju kao saradnik za predmet Pozorina reija, a 2009. godine je biran u zvanje do-centa. Od poetka studija bavi se neprekidno pedagokim radom sa mladima i djecom. Osniva

    je nekoliko pedagokih dramskih studija u Srbiji i Crnoj Gori. Dvadeset godina radi pozorineprojekte sa posebno osjetljivim socijalnim grupama (iseljena lica, maloljetni delinkventi, nezbrinuta djeca, Romi). Upojedinim predstavama pojavljuje se i kao autor teksta i scenograje. Reirao je preko pedeset pozorinih pred-

    stava i perormansa u Crnoj Gori i inostranstvu. Za rad u pozoritu dobio je vie domaih i internacionalnih nagrada,meu kojima su i dvije nagrade na Festivalima crnogorskog teatra 08 i 09 u konkurenciji OFF programa. Saradnici iglumci iz predstava koje je reirao dobitnici su vie strukovnih nagrada. Osniva je internacionalne grupe KUD NIKUD.Umjetniki je direktor NVO Vertigo.

    Petar Pejakovic was born in 1970 in Kotor. He nished elementary and secondary school in Rijeka. He is a senior atthe Department o Philosophy at the Faculty o Philosophy in Belgrade. He graduated rom the Faculty o Dramatic

    Arts in Belgrade at the Department or the theater and radio directing. Since 1999 he has been working at the Facultyo Dramatic Arts in Cetinje, as a teaching associate or the subject Theater directing, and was elected to the position

    o assistant proessor in 2009. Since the beginning o his study, he is involved in continuous educational work withyoung people and children. He is the ounder o several educational drama studies in Serbia and Montenegro. Hehas been working on various theater projects with a particularly vulnerable social groups (displaced persons, juve-nile delinquents, abandoned children, Roma) or twenty years. In some theatrical perormances, he appeared as theauthor o the text and scenographer. He has directed over ty plays and theatrical perormances in Montenegro andabroad. For his work in the theater, Pejakovic received several national and international awards, including two awardsat Montenegrin Theatre estivals 08 and 09 in the so called OFF program competition. Collaborators and actors romhis productions are winners o several proessional awards. He is the ounder o the KUD NIKUD international group.He is the art director o NGO Vertigo.

    Film Deponija sniman je gotovo tri godine. U njemu pratimo putovanje renomiranog umjetnika Vika Muniza od njegov-og doma u Bruoklinu do rodnog Brazila, odnosno do najveeg odlagalita otpada na svijetu smjetenog na perierijiRio de aneira, Jardim Gramacho. Muniz tamo snima catadorese, aroliku skupinu samoprozvanih skupljaa otpadaza reciklau. Reditelj je na poetku samo elio da oslika otpad koji skupljaju, ali saradnja s inspirativnim likovimarezultirala je neim mnogo veim: Muniz je istovremeno razotkrio njihov oaj i dostojanstvo dok iz otpada stvarajuotograske slike samih sebe, iznova zamiljajui svoje ivote.

    Filmed over nearly three years, Waste Land ollows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys rom his home base inBrooklyn to his native Brazil and the worlds largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts o Riode Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band o catadores sel-designated pickers o recyclable materials.Munizs initial objective was to paint the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiringcharacters as they recreate photographic images o themselves out o garbage reveals both the dignity and despair othe catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives.

    Lusi Voker odrasla je u Londonu. Jo kao srednjokolka je reirala pozorine predstave. Kod snimanja dokumentarnihlmova koristi dramatine lmske tehnike koje daju jedinstveni pristup u zatvorene svjetove nezaboravnih likova na

    putu transormacije. Osim lma Zemlja smea / Waste Land reirala je jo jedan dokumentarac, Odbrojavanje do nule,premijerno prikazan 2010. godine na Sandensu. Njen raniji lm Blindshight premijerno je prikazan u Torontu, a osvojio

    je nagrade publike na estivalima u Berlinu, Ghentu, AFI i Palm Springsu. Prvi dokumentarni lm koji je reirala, DevilsPlayground, premijeru je imao 2002. na Sandensu, a nagraen je na estivalima u Karlovim Varima i Sarasoti (SAD).

    Lucy Walker grew up in London, England, started directing theater in high school and continued as an undergraduate atOxord University, where her plays won prestigious Oxord University Dramatic Society awards. Walker uses dramaticlmmaking techniques to make documentary lms, ollowing memorable characters on transormative journeys that grantunique access inside closed worlds. In addition to Waste Land, Walker directed a second eature documentary that pre-

    miered at Sundance 2010 Countdown to Zero, previous lm Blindsight premiered at Toronto and received audienceawards at the Berlin, Ghent, AFI and Palm Springs lm estivals. Walkers rst eature documentary, Devils Playgroundpremiered at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival and went on to win awards at the Karlovy Vary and Sarasota lm estivals.

    Ima li neto to ruska maja ne moe? Nakon ovog pogleda iznutra na svijet, recimo hipotetskih zloina, prilino jejasno da odgovor glasi njet. Pratei prie troj ice majakih biznismena, Kradljivci po zakonu istkali su nevjerovatnutapiseriju ljudi pred kojima bi se postidio i Toni Soprano.     Family Instinct is a lm which oers an excursion into a society which is normally inaccessible. Its a group portrait opeople living in extreme poverty in a remote Latvian village. The story ollows Zanda (28) who lives in incest relation-ship with her brother Valdis (34) having two children together. The plot is based on Zandas trying to survive with bothchildren during a year which her brother partner serves in prison sentenced or old sins. She has to cope withpoverty and potential lovers trying to seduce her. Can she escape her society, to ulll her hopes or better lie? Thatis the key question o the lm and thats a paradox that reers to almost everyone in the world.

    Sampat Pal, an illiterate, low-caste woman, set up the Gulabi Gang because o all the eelings o injustice and helplessnessshed experienced in her lie. Beore she was 12 years old, she was sent to a remote village to marry and was bullied by herin-laws. She rebelled against the stringent village rules and ended up on the streets with ve young children. Setting upthe Gulabi Gang was her act o inspired desperation. Hundreds o women, all dressed in bright uchsia saris, would gatherto make a corrupt policeman enorce the law or to challenge a violent husband. Sampat, the Commander in Chie o thisgroup, is now amous throughout Uttar Pradesh. She doesnt need to summon the Gulabi Gang anymore, she uses her owname to get results. Together, they produced and directed more than 30 lms including two award winning documentary series:Turning 16 and Rainmakers. In 2005, he directed, Crash Landing, a lm about post-traumatic stress disorder that wasselected to be shown in many estivals around the world and won several awards including an Honorable Mention or bestCanadian Documentary at the Hot Docs Toronto Festival in 2005.     pozitor lmske muzike. Dokumentarac o uvenoj grupi govori o eektima zapadnjake popularne kulture na komunisatikuzemlju , bivu Jugoslaviju. Zahvaljujui njima , rokenrol je masovno prihvaen. Njihovi koncerti su okupljali stotine hiljadaanova od Beograda do Moskve, njihovi albumi su se prodavali u milionskim tiraima, o skandaloznim lanovima benda suse na ovim prostorima prvi put pisale prie o drogi i dekadenciji.

    The basic narrative line o this documentary ollows a rather peculiar workshop held in Zagreb or the oreigners with bigpocketbooks. The aim o the workshop was to teach the participants one very basic skill how to seduce a woman in order

    to get her to bed. The workshop was consisted o a theoretical part which was held in the hotel and a daily practical check-up on Zagreb streets and nightclubs. The most intriguing paradox is showing that the most requent source o problems inrelationships between men and women is actually very simple bad communication.

Beskunik mu pokazuje nekolikostarih koera u kojima je gotovo 1.000 kolaa koje je napravio od 70-ih do 90-ih godina prolog vijeka. Samo godinudana kasnije, Jon ivi u pristojnom domu, priznat kao jedan od najvanijih, savremenih rumunskih umjetnika. Ovo jeistinita pria o pravom umjetniku koji je ivio na margini drutva stvarajui umjetnost u pravom smislu te rijei - umjet-nost za sebe.     Ion B. is a 62 year old homeless man living in Bucharest. In the 70s he started creating collages that he reers to asmy lms. In 2008, a young gallery owner hears by chance about Ion and his works. The homeless man shows hima ew old suitcases lled with almost 1000 collages he had made between the 70 and the 90.Only one year later, in2009, Ion lives in a decent place and has become one o the most important contemporary Romanian artists. This isa real lie story o a genuine artist living at the edge o society and creating art or himsel in the real and true senseo the world. Extraordinarily, even though he is cosidered one o the most important representatives o Pop Art, Ionhonestly doesent know who Andy Warhol is.

Njegov najpoznatiji dugometrani dokumentarac Ghetto Secret Lie o the City(1996) uspjeno je prikazan na brojnim lmskim estivalima irom svijeta. How to Become a Hero (2007) prikazan je udugometranoj dokumentarnoj kategoriji na IDFA-i.

    Mladen Maticevic was born in 1965 in Belgrade. He graduated rom the Department or Film and TV directing at theAcademy o Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. He worked as the rst and second assistant director on several Serbian andoreign eature lms (1985-1990). He worked on the Belgrade television as a director o short orm (ction and docu-mentary) or the documentary and childrens program (1985-1990). Its most amous eature-length documentary The
