These are the words of Pat Unsworth, Act-ing Chairperson of the Uitenhage CommunityPolicing Forum and organiser of the WillowDam Carnival, a fundraising project in aid ofthe CPF. The Carnival had to be cancelled asa result of inclement weather.
“We received a message from the Metro’sDisaster Management that the terrain was toosoggy as a result of the recent rain and notsuitable for the activities planned for the Car-nival to be held on August 31.
“So, we were left with no choice but to post-pone it. Thank you to all the stallholders foryour understanding and willingness to stillsupport this venture. Thank you to the gener-al public as well as they were very sympathet-ic towards our situation.”
The Carnival is now scheduled for Satur-day, 26th October. The majority of stalls andactivities like the Boerboel trials, Caledonianband performance, line dancers, kiddies en-tertainment and potjiekos competition willcontinue as initially planned.
All the prizes are also still available like thevouchers to visit the Predator Park, the prizesfor the potjiekos competition and various oth-er lucky prizes.

As part of the Save the Metro campaignAnnette Lovemore MP, DA ShadowMinister of Basic Education, has
started a tree planting project at schoolswith the first of these trees planted at StJoseph’s Primary School in Kamesh.
There are very few trees in this schoolyard to protect children during their breakagainst the harsh African sun.
The more indigenous trees being plantedthe better, for both protection against thesun as well as to minimize carbon footprint.
“My job requires a lot of travelling which
results in an increasing carbon footprint. Tooffset my enormous impact, as a contributor,planting trees is a great way of becoming car-bon neutral,” said Annette Lovemore.
“I need to plant at least 46 trees per year.These trees at St Joseph’s are the first of mypersonal offset.
I will continue with the project at variouslocal schools.”
Planting trees is a simple step that anyonecan take in reducing carbon dioxide and totake a stand against global warming.
Each tree planted helps offset humans’environmental impact by “breathing” incarbon dioxide as it grows. The public are en-couraged to also start planting more trees.

Die opening van die nuwe geriewe by die Bay-world-oseanarium in Somerstrand verledenaweek het die verwagtinge oortref.
Die pawiljoene was stampvol soos groot enklein gestroom het na die eerste vertonings
nadat die oseanarium van die aktiwiteite ’nruk lank opgeskort het vir vernuwings aan diegeboue.
Robyn Greyling, hoofkurator van lewendediere by Bayworld, het gesê die openings-naweek se toegangspryse is spesiaal laag ge-hou. Die gewone tariewe is R35 vir volwass-enes en R25 vir kinders.
Dienuwepikkewynuitstallingmetsyonder-waterbesigtigingsvensters en die akwarium-galery met silindriese tenks vir tropiese visseis nuutjies wat groot belangstelling gewek het.Volgens Greyling sal die uitstalruimte vir oer-diere, soos dinosourusse, eers teen Desemberbetyds vir die somervakansie heeltemalvoltooi wees.
Bayworld het verlede jaar ’n R10 miljoen-in-spuiting van die Oos-Kaapse departement vansport, ontspanning, kuns en kultuur gekry.Die geld is gebruik vir ’n paar opknappingsaan die oseanarium, slangpark en museum.

Die dogters het agtste uit die agt uitge-
nooide skole van regoor die land geëindig endie seuns vyfde uit die tien skole.
