TALKS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULTS COME & LISTEN!
We just began a series of talks for teens and adults at St. Joseph’s, guided by members of the Neocat-echumenal Way, “an itinerary of Catholic formation valid for our society and for our times” (Pope St. John Paul II). These talks take place every Monday and Thurs-day at 7:30 pm in Parish Hall. The focus of these talks is the re-discovery of the immense love
that Jesus Christ has for each one of us and the effect that love has on our lives. If you or someone you know is experiencing a time of suffering or difficulty, or would simply like to deepen and reignite your faith, these talks are for you! There is no obli-gation, only a willingness to come and listen. These catechesis are bilingual. There are babysitters.
FLOWER OFFERINGS We invite all the members of our Parish community to help us with donations to buy flowers for the altar and so decorate our Church every week. Feel free to take one of the envelopes at the back of the Church and place your donation in it. You can give the envel-
op in the collection basket. We are also looking for volunteer, who might want to help to prepare the flower arrangements that are made on Friday from 10Am to 1PM. All those who are in-terested in helping, please give your name at the parish offices (781-599-7040). Thank you for your generosity!

ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH STAINED -GLASS WINDOWS by Ann Goggin
The city of Lynn has a hidden treasure right in plain sight. St. Joseph’s Church on Union Street has the most beautiful examples of the stained-glass win-dow makers’ art. St. Joseph's Church was founded in 1874, and is the oldest Catholic Church building in continuous service to the Roman Catholic Community of Lynn. The Mass has been celebrated here every week
for over 140 years since. We are blessed by the faith of those founders and all those who followed. From an excerpt from the Lynn Sunday Post on August 15, 1982, (in 1981 a survey of our stained-glass windows was done). At that time, it went on to describe the windows. The paper’s article described the rose window which faces the east and allows the morning light of the rising sun to filter into the church, a reminder of Christ the son of God, who has risen and is our light. Viewed from the outside, the rose window which tops a compact grouping of five large vertical windows shows the star pattern, the largest Star of David of any church or synagogue in Lynn. This is only one of the thirteen windows in the upper church. There are more windows above the altar, in the sacristy, and in the lower church. Because of the value of the windows in our church, and their historical value to the community of St. Joseph’s parish, and the city of Lynn, we hope that this treasure will be seen and pre-served by the greater community of Lynn. We invite anyone interested in seeing these beautiful examples of the stained-glass window maker’s art to come and visit the church. At the moment, we have embarked on an important restoration project to refurbish the stained-glass windows’ exterior frames which have deteriorated with the passing of time. The work is estimated at $164,000. St. Joseph’s parishioners are making an extraordinary effort to fund-raise the money needed to restore the windows. Will you help? You can give a cash donation, or make check payable to St. Joseph’s Parish, Memo Windows Restoration. There is also a large church organ which was in-stalled around 1888. This organ is a product of the Golden age of American organ building. Its magnificent voice continues to resound in worship as it has for at least one hundred and thirty years. Such an historic treasure is indeed a rarity. This organ may be heard every Sunday at the 10:00 AM mass to this day.

The renovations of the Stained Glass Windows of the Upper Church is underway. A team of professional workers from Associ-ated Crafts Stained Glass windows studio is currently working in this project. Here there are some pictures:

Hemos comenzado en San José una serie de catequesis para jóve-nes y adultos guiadas por miem-bros del Camino Neocatecumenal, un “itinerario de formación católi-ca válido para nuestra sociedad y nuestros tiempos” (Papa San Juan Pablo II). Estas charlas son los Lunes y Jueves a las 7:30 pm en el Salón Parroquial. El centro de estas charlas es el redes-cubrimiento del amor inmenso de
Jesucristo por cada uno de nosotros y el efecto que tiene este amor en nuestras vidas. Si estás pasando por un tiempo de sufrimiento o dificultad, o te gustaría simplemente pro-fundizar y reencender tu fe, ¡estas charlas son para ti! VIDRIERAS DE CRISTAL por Ann Goggin La ciudad de Lynn tiene un tesoro
escondido a la vista. La Iglesia de San José en la calle Unión tiene los ejem-
plos más bellos del arte de hacer vi-drieras. La iglesia de San José fue fun-
dada en 1874, y es la iglesia católica más antigua en servicio continuo a la
comunidad Católica Romana de Lynn. La misa se ha celebrado aquí cada
semana durante más de 140 años desde entonces. Estamos ben-
decidos por la fe de aquellos fundadores y todos los que los siguieron.
De un extracto del Lynn Sunday Post del 15 de agosto de 1982, (en 1981 se hizo una inspección de nuestras vidrieras). En ese
momento, se prosiguió a describir las vidrieras. El artículo del periódico describe el rosetón que mira hacia el este y permite
que la luz matutina del sol naciente se filtre en la iglesia, un recordatorio de Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, que ha resucitado y es
nuestra luz. Visto desde el exterior, el rosetón que remata una agrupación compacta de cinco grandes ventanas verticales
muestra el patrón de estrellas, la estrella de David más grande de cualquier Iglesia o sinagoga en Lynn. Esta es sólo una de las
trece vidrieras de la iglesia de arriba. Hay más ventanas sobre el altar, en la sacristía y en la Iglesia de abajo.
Debido al valor de las Vidrieras de nuestra Iglesia y su valor
histórico para la comunidad de la parroquia de San José y la ciudad de Lynn, esperamos que este tesoro sea visto y preserva-
do por la comunidad de Lynn y sus alrededores. Invitamos a cualquier persona interesada en ver estos hermosos ejemplos de
arte de fabricante de vidrieras0para0que0venga0y0visi-te0la0Iglesia. En este momento, hemos embarcado en un importante proyec-to de restauración para remodelar los marcos exteriores de las
vidrieras que se han deteriorado con el paso del tiempo. El tra-bajo se estima en 164.000 dólares. Los feligreses de San José
están haciendo un esfuerzo extraordinario para recaudar el dine-ro necesario para restaurar las vidrieras. ¿Nos puede ayudar?

Hay también un gran órgano en la iglesia que fue instalado alre-
dedor de 1888. Este órgano es un producto de la edad de oro de
la construcción de órganos americanos. Su magnífico sonido sigue resonando en los cultos como lo ha hecho por lo menos
durante ciento treinta años. Un tesoro histórico es una rareza. Este órgano puede ser escuchado todos los domingos en la misa
de las 10:00 AM hasta el día de hoy.
