This ser- vice is still available throughout the state. Those in need of testing, please visit www.testnebraska.com for dates and times in the area. “Thank you to all of our volunteers that spent countless hours testing our community,” said Tricia Wagner, Community Hospital Community Outreach and Wellness Coordina- tor. More than 26 Community Hospital volunteers provided TestNebraska testing in McCook, Trenton and Curtis in 2020. “And, as always, thank you to our supportive community.” Due to the low COVID-19 positivity rate in south- west Nebraska, numbers of people needing testing have been low the last two weeks. Wagner said only five people needed services at the drive- through event last week and 24 the week before. Community Hospital transi- tioned in late January 2021 to assist the Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department in vaccinating community members for COVID-19. That has been going well, according to Sharon Conroy, Community Hospital Infection Pre- ventionist. By the end of March, Community Hospital would have assisted SWPHD in giving nearly 700 first and second doses of the vaccine. LEXINGTON MAN ARRESTED YESTERDAY MORNING Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, arrested a Lexington man following a pursuit and search Monday morning in Dawson County. At approximately 2:55 a.m. Monday, a trooper observed a westbound Chrysler 300 speeding on High- way 30 near Lexington. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to yield and fled at a high rate of speed. The trooper initiated a pursuit. The vehicle turned northbound on Road 428. The vehicle traveled northbound for several miles, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The vehicle turned eastbound on Buffalo Road and eventually began driving through a field. The trooper successfully performed a tactical vehicle intervention to bring the vehicle to a stop, but the driver then fled on foot. Troopers and deputies searched the area for several hours until receiving a report from a local resident that the suspect was in a field several miles north of the original scene. The resident was able to direct troopers to the area and at approximately 8:10 a.m., a trooper located the suspect in a field just west of Highway 21. The suspect was taken into custody without further inci- dent. 28 year old Jose Marquez of Lexington was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, failure to obey a lawful order, obstructing a peace officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana less than one ounce, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal mischief. He was lodged in Dawson County Jail. COMPLAINT OF MULTIPLE VIOLATIONS BY ALTEN Attorney General Doug Peterson filed a complaint in the District Court of Saunders County alleging multiple environmental violations by AltEn, LLC. AltEn is an ethanol plant located near Mead, Nebraska. The complaint al- leges violations of the Nebraska Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), viola- tions of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Act (ISWMA) and multiple violations of permit conditions and includes violations of an order from the Director of the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE). The Attorney General was joined in a press conference by Governor Ricketts and Jim Macy, Director of NDEE to discuss the court filing and to answer questions regarding concerns surrounding the Mead plant. AltEn was originally permit- ted to produce ethanol using field corn as its primary feedstock. However, AltEn was using discarded treated seed corn rather than normal field corn to produce its ethanol. The treated seed corn resulted in byproducts that were contaminated with pesticides, including contaminated distillers grains and contaminated wastewater.
