Boys’ Basketball Our Milton boys went down to the showground last week to take on the might of Sanctuary Point. MPS got off to a cracking start going up 8 nil thanks to some sharp shooting from Cam and Aston. The Sanctuary Point team however came back with a vengeance in the second and third quarters with one of their stars catching fire and not missing a shot. Despite the MPS boys best defensive efforts they just could not stop this young lad. Milton ended up going down 24-16. Very proud of the sporting conduct shown by these boys and how well they have represented our school throughout the state knock out. Thanks to super coach Mr Barby, the wonderful high school helpers who refereed and scored the game for us as well as Rachael and Milton basketball for allowing us to use the stadium.

Merit awards The merit system at Milton Public School is a 6 tiered system consisting of Bronze, Silver, Gold, Gold Bar 1, Gold Bar 2 and the top level of Gold Bar 3. Students must receive 10 merit cards to reach each level. Once they have those 10 cards they bring them to school and will be given their major award on stage at Monday’s assembly at 2pm. Awards must be handed in by Friday to their class teacher for checking in order for them to be presented on Monday. Parents are invited to attend the assembly and watch their child get up on stage. If you are unsure on whether your child is receiving their award at assembly or whether the assembly is on or not please just phone the office on Monday morning to check.

Students arriving late We understand that there are times where it cannot be avoided that your child is late to school. A reminder however that it is a Department of Education Child Protection policy that when a student arrives late at school they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. If this is not possible there MUST be a note or a phone call made to the office explaining the child’s late attendance. The same protocols are required for early leavers.

A father's impact in the first 1-3 years

Father's have a significant impact on their children all through out their life. However, the first 1-3 years are especially important. During these years a child's brain is developing at a rapid rate and absorbing everything around them. For this reason, a father's involvement and engagement, especially in regard to learning and play, helps a young child's development; socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically. Dr Bruce Robinson shares his top three tips to incorporate play into your household: 1. Engage in physically active play – opt

for activities such as rolling around, chasing, and piggy-back rides – fathers physical play is what's important.

2. Allow for some unstructured, unplanned play. Let them explore, experiment and figure things out for themselves.

3. Let your child be the guide. Have them choose a variety of activities that they like.
