John 6:41-51

From Fr. Jairo

It takes the grace of God and years to understand what Jesus is saying to us today. He claims to be the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever. As a priest it has been amazing to see how some people, in certain stages of life, and in certain situations, God has given them the grace to experience the wonderful presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Tears came out of my eyes, when for the first time as a priest, I administered first communion to a couple of children. These two children enthusiastically tasted and savored this living bread. Children seem to always have this experience of Jesus on the day of their first communion.

When I worked at St. Cloud Hospital, I gave communion to patients who were really ill. It was so touching to see how joyful and hopeful they were at the moment they received communion. When a person is at their deathbed or in the intensive care unit, the person receives communion with tears, because they understand what Jesus is saying in the Gospel; the one who eats the body of Jesus does not die.

Once a month, I used to have a very profound and spiritual moment at Tecumseh State Correctional Center when I visited some of the prisoners who had life imprisonment and lived in protective custody. The only opportunity they had to receive the body of Christ was when I went to see them. When I said to the inmate, “This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world,” the moment became very sacred and prayerful, as if an army of angels had arrived and the Holy Trinity were present to help them understand, that the one who eats this bread; the bread they could not eat often, would live forever.

This is the reason the Eucharist is at the center of our parish life. All of us within the church, come true as a sign of unity, peace and salvation for all. The search of God is fundamental to understanding the meaning of life. And the Eucharist invites us to serve others. This encounter with Jesus always invites us to action.

The following, is a note from Deacon Brett addressed to all our parishioners.

A Transformative Summer

When I first came to Divine Mercy Parish in Schuyler, I was surprised at how welcoming everyone was towards me. It seemed that every group in the parish was excited to have me here.

From this openness bore many opportunities to serve in a way that many Deacons do not get. As a Deacon here, I have had the opportunity to preach in English and Spanish, baptize fourteen children, minister at a wedding, serve at two funerals, mentor young men discerning the priesthood, assist at a vocations holy hour, and help lead a youth retreat. Each of these experiences proved to be very transformative because each of these opportunities has increased my desire to become a healthy, holy, and joyful priest. For all of the blessings that I have received, I want to offer my sincere thanks to all of you for your openness to having me here. In a couple of weeks, I will return to Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis for one more year of seminary study. On June 4th of 2022, I will be ordained a priest at St. Cecilia Cathedral. Please keep me in your prayers as I continue to pursue the Most Sacred Priesthood of Jesus Christ.

Peace of the Risen Lord,

Deacon Brett Jamrog

the years they missed.

For students doing Catch-Up… Please, continue working in your books at home this summer. When you complete a unit including the unit review, come

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time “Get up and eat or the journey will be too much for you!”

1 KINGS 19:7 God knows that committing to a stewardship lifestyle is difficult. However, we were not designed to do it on our own, we need His help. Fortunately, God gave us the greatest gift of all, His son, Jesus. Through the gift of the Eucharist we join our sacrifice with the sacrifice of the Holy Mass and receive the strength and courage to be His joyful disciples.
