Note from the Pastor The fifty days of Easter are filled with signs of the Presence of the Risen Christ. Among them are several groups who have or will receive the Sacraments. The members of our 11th grade faith formation program were confirmed last week. I am grateful to Wendy Kachermeyer, parish coordinator of Faith Formation and to Rosemary Olow who taught the group. Next Sunday, 22 young parishioners from Northern Chautauqua Catholic School and the parish faith formation program will receive the Lord in the Eucharist for the first time. Thanks especially to Donna Banach who worked with them this year. Finally, Amy Reed formally became a member of the Catholic Church this past Sunday through a profession of faith and the reception of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. I appreciate the dedication of Wendy Kachermeyer, and the Catechumenate team who worked with her to prepare Amy.

Movie Night at SEAS On Friday Evening, May 15, you won’t want to miss the Movie and Pizza to be featured here in the Rectory Meeting Room. Pizza will be served at 6:00 pm followed by the Movie, “GOD’S NOT DEAD.” Have you ever thought, ‘What do I really believe about God?’ The film features a College Student who is challenged to defend his faith and prove to his class that ‘God’s not Dead.’ This entertaining and profound PG film is earning national attention and applause. This event is sponsored by the Adult Education/Faith Formation Committee and is free of charge.

Register Early for Summer Bible Camp Our local parishes will again cooperate on a Bible Camp this summer from August 10 – 14. This day camp experience will take place at Northern Chautauqua Catholic School for children ages 4-10. A $15 registration fee per child can be paid either on-line at www.seasdunkirkny.org (click on ‘give online’) or by checks payable to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Registration and volunteer forms available at the parish office and are due no later than July 14. Everest Bible Camp offers kids the chance to discover evidence of God and His Power in everyday life. Volunteers of all ages are needed to lead crafts, games, songs and serve snacks. Please contact Susan Galley at 366-0499 with your questions.

The Environment – A Moral Issue This summer, Pope Francis will deliver the first major encyclical of his papacy. It will address climate change and the environment. The protection of the environment is rapidly becoming the moral issue of our time. “I urge you to see the world with the eyes of God, the Creator. The earth is our environment to protect and the garden to tend to. Our relationship with nature should not be guided by greed. We must not manipulate or exploit it but treasure the divine harmony between creatures and creation and keep it for our brothers and for future generations.” “We are called to love our neighbors, and loving our neighbor’s. This means protecting them from climate impacts, including increased disease, extreme weather, and food insecurity. We must address climate change to protect God’s people.” -Pope Francis
