Introduction

Welcome to “Truphone for the Android” – giving you better value International Calls. This User Guide explains the “Truphone for the Android” features and gives additional information on the various ways to top up your account.

What is Truphone? Truphone provides telephone services using its internet-based telephone network. Truphone allows you to make Android calls via the internet which means that you can make INTERNATIONAL calls at LOCAL rates because most of the routing is done on Truphone’s internet-based network. Connecting to the Truphone network is seamless…via a Wi-Fi connection or, if you are not in a Wi-Fi area, via a normal Android call (via your service provider) using the Truphone Anywhere feature (Please Note: Calls are not possible via your 3G connection).

What is Truphone Anywhere? Truphone Anywhere allows you to make Truphone calls wherever you can use your cell/mobile phone. When you make an International call on your Android you will be asked if you want to route the call using Truphone Anywhere. If you do, we'll employ some clever VoIP trickery to route as much of your call as possible over the internet at our brilliant low rates. The first part of the call routes via your Android service provider to Truphone and Truphone completes the call! You pay the cost of a local call in your home country plus our incredibly low worldwide rate for the international part of your call

This service works in your home country and is not suited to roaming. Q: What actually happens to the call behind the scenes? A: Your call is routed via your service provider to a Truphone local landline number in your country and Truphone completes the rest of the call. Q: What does Truphone Anywhere mean? A: Truphone Anywhere means you can place Truphone calls wherever your service provider has coverage. Q: What will it cost? A: Truphone will charge you our standard rate for the call you are making based on the call destination (see www.truphone.com/pricing). Your service provider will charge you for a local call (which could be free if you have bundled minutes). This will enable you to make cheap international calls via your service provider. This is particularly useful where you have bundled minutes or low cost local (home country) calls as part of your contract or “pay as you go” service. Note: Truphone Anywhere is only active when in your home country (or, more precisely, when the country you are in matches the home country of the SIM card in the Android).

Truphone Application Screens

Dialler When you open the Truphone application you’ll see the Dialler tab (or the Keyboard-see below). From here you can place a Truphone call.

Keyboard

The Truphone keyboard allows you to manually enter numbers and alpha-numeric characters.

To access the Keyboard just double tap the cursor in the display number field.

Call Log Whilst within the Truphone application, Select the Call Log Tab to find your call history.

You’re able to call from here by simply touching the number/contact.

Tru Friends Within the Truphone application, Select the Tru Friends Tab to display your contacts.

IM The Truphone Instant Messaging service provides the following features:

Skype, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk and AIM Instant Messaging.

FREE calls to Skype and Google Talk contacts

My Account My Account allows you to access your Truphone account details. Select the More Tab followed by My Account to display this screen.

Note: Please see the “Top Up your Truphone credit” section for further information about crediting your Truphone account.

Truphone Features Explained

Making a Truphone Anywhere Call: From Android Dialler

1. From the Android’s home screen open Truphone

2. To make a Truphone call, simply dial a number into the Truphone Dial pad and press the Call button. Alternatively you can select a contact from your Tru Friends list.

Making a Truphone Call: From Android Dialler

1. From the Android Dialler/Keyboard, dial an International number and make your call.

By default Truphone on the Android is setup to activate when international numbers are dialled within the handsets native Dialler. But this behaviour can be reconfigured within your Truphone Settings.

You can tell you are connected to the Truphone network by the

green icon in the top left corner of your handsets screen. The colour of this icon will change depending on the state of your connection.

When BLACK your Truphone calls will be set up via our Truphone Anywhere service.

When RED, this indicates that you are not connected to Truphone via WIFI and you do not have access to the Truphone Anywhere.

2. Depending on whether you are connected to WIFI or not, three options will appear when you attempt an international call from your Android Dialler: WI-Fi Call, Truphone Anywhere Call and GSM Call.

1. WI-Fi Call enables you to make a call over your Wi-Fi connection.

2. Truphone Anywhere Call allows you to make a call via the Truphone Anywhere call feature.

3. GSM Call makes a normal call via your mobile service provider.

Note: If you do not see this screen then please check if Ask me is set to Always within the Truphone Settings > Truphone Call Prompting.

1. Settings affect how the Truphone application behaves in the Android Dialler.

2. From ‘VOIP Setting’ select VoIP Options

3. Here you can configure the Android Dialler/Keyboard, to enable Wi-Fi calls when if you dial an International number from your Andrioid dialler. (if you’re connected to Truphone over Wi-Fi

)

4. From ‘When at Home Network’, choose Truphone Anywhere.

5. Here, you can set the Android Dialler/Keyboard to activate Truphone Anywhere calls when an International number is dialled.

6. If an International number is dialled from the Android Dialler/Keyboard, by default Truphone will always ask if you want to make a Truphone call via WI-Fi or Truphone Anywhere. However this can be changed by changing the Ask me setting from Always to Never

To change this option please navigate to ‘When at Home Network’, and then choose Prompt Call Options Dialog

Using Instant Messenger (IM)

How do I add my IM Account Details?

1. From the Truphone app select the More Tab > IM

2. To set up your account select the Add IM Services button in the Services Tab.

3. Select the down button in the IM Service menu box to display the IM Services you can connect to with Truphone.

Then select the IM Service you wish to setup.

4. Type in the Username and Password for your IM service then select Add IM Service.

How do I start an Instant Messenger Chat or Call?

1. Once signed into your IM Account, tap the IM tab to display your Contact list.

To initiate an IM Chat, tap on the contact you wish to Instant Message.

2. From within your IM conversation, select the Menu button and Call to place a Call to your contact.

3. Alternatively you can setup a Call or Chat from your contacts list by holding down your online contacts name.

Using Twitter Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? Truphone has incorporated Twitter into our Android application so you can constantly keep people updated with what you are doing.

Note: You must have a Twitter account to use the service. Please sign up at www.twitter.com

Setting up your Twitter Account

1. To use the Twitter based services please enter a valid Twitter username and password within the Truphone Twitter account login screen.

To access the Twitter account login screen, launch the Truphone application and select Menu > More > Twitter.

2. Enter your Twitter Username and Password then select Sign In.

Selecting the Menu Button whilst within Twitter provides you with a list of options.

Refresh Tweet Log Out of Twitter Home Menu

Refresh Updates you with messages, providing you with your latest Tweets.

Tweet Allows you to post your own message.

Log Out of Twitter Signs you out of your Twitter account.

Home Menu Gives you access to other features within Truphone including IM, the Truphone Dialler and the Truphone Settings.

Tweet Options

Holding down a Twitter response gives you access to the Tweet Options:

Show User Profile Reply

Show User Profile Displays the profile of your Twitter contact as well as a list of their recent Tweets.

Reply Allows you to respond to your Tweets.

Truphone Settings If you need to access the Truphone settings on your Android, simply complete the following steps:

1. To access the Truphone Settings press the More Tab whilst within the Dialler screen. Then select Settings.

From the Truphone settings you can:

Change Truphone Calling Options

Reset Default Settings

Repair User Account

Note: For more information changing your call settings please go to Truphone Call Settings

2. Reset To Default Settings: This option changes your Truphone Call Options back to their original settings upon installation.

3. Repair account: If you are experiencing a technical problem you should try repairing your Truphone account.

This option erases your Truphone settings enabling you re-enter them the next time you open the Truphone application.

My Account

My Account can be accessed from the More Tab.

Selecting My Account gives you access to information about your Truphone account, as well Truphone rates and tariffs:

Note: Please see the “Top Up your Truphone credit” section for further information about crediting your Truphone account.

My Balances This displays your remaining Truphone Credit and any additional balances e.g. bundles and promotions!

It’s also possible to top up from here by touching the Top Up Now button.

Top Up

Use this short-cut to top up your Truphone credit. You can also choose between our TruStandard, TruSaver or TruUnlimited tariffs.

Note: Please see the “Truphone Tariff” section for further information about our tariffs.

The Top Up section provides the following features:

Top up by card

Redeem a voucher

You will need to have a validated email address in order to purchase Truphone credit. This is so that we can send you a receipt for your payment.

Note: To validate your email address please go back and select My Details and touch the Validate Email button to send a validation email.

Tariffs

Truphone has a choice of three different tariffs.

TruStandard

TruSaver

TruUnlimited

You will see a green dot next to the Truphone Tariff you are currently on.

Note: Please see the “Truphone Tariff” section for further information about our tariffs.

Call Rates Select a country from the list or use the Search feature to find a specific country’s flat rate call charges.

Please note that rates displayed will depend on the Tariff that you are on. You can change tariffs in the top up section.

Truphone will break down the Landline, Mobile and Truphone charges for calling the country you select.

Please note that Truphone>Truphone calls are FREE when both parties are connected to Truphone.

My Details If you need to change any of your personal details simply touch within the white area and edit.

If you see the “Validate Email” button touch it to send yourself a validation email and click the link in the email to complete validation.

Change Password Use this option to change your password details via your mobile handset.

Top Up your Truphone Credit There are many different ways to top up your Truphone credit. There a three ways to top up your Truphone credit on the website – by card, by voucher and by PayPal.

Top Up by Card

Login to your online ‘My Account’ at https://www.truphone.com/login/login.tru and click Top Up.

Click Top Up By Card

To make a one time payment click Top Up Credit on the One time payment option.

or…

Select Auto Top Up so that your balance is topped up automatically when it drops below your preset level!

Redeem a voucher

Select this option if you have a Truphone Double Your Credit voucher.

Pay by PayPal

Select this option to top up your Truphone credit using your PayPal account.

Phone Top Up Truphone have a telephone top up system which gives you even greater flexibility when managing your Truphone credit. Simply dial one of the following numbers to use our easy step-by step telephone system:

Customers based in the UK: Dial 1500 whilst connected to Truphone or +442033558248 from any phone. Customers based in the US: Dial 1501 whilst connected to Truphone or +13475351535 from any phone.

Customers based outside the US/UK: Dial 1501 whilst connected to Truphone or one of the following numbers from any phone: +442033558248 (UK) or +13475351535 (US)

Mobile Web Top Up You can complete the same steps as above using your Android whilst on the move. Simply select the My Account button located within the Truphone application and then Top Up. See the screens below for step by step instructions;

1. Select the handsets Menu Tab then My Account .

2. Select Top Up.

Select Top Up to add your card details our use the card details attached to your account to make a payment.

If you have a Truphone Double Your Credit voucher, enter your voucher number within the Redeem a Voucher section.

Truphone Tariffs Truphone has a range of three different tariffs to choose from; TruStandard, TruSaver and TruUnlimited.

TruStandard

You can make cheap international calls.

There is no monthly fee and you benefit from FREE calls to other connected Truphone users.

TruSaver

You can save up to 60% more on international calls, compared to TruStandard rates.

It only costs £2.50 / $4.00 a month and you can cancel at any time.

TruUnlimited

Unlimited minutes to key destinations for a set monthly fee:

TruUnlimited Landlines for £10 / $17 a month: Includes 38 countries worldwide for landlines and 9 countries for mobiles.

To see our rates for individual countries just select the country from the drop down menu and it will display the rates for the three tariffs.
