~In Our Thoughts & Prayers~ Homebound Parishioner of the Week

Time flies when we are having fun, or so they tell us. Well the fun is all over as summer vacation is done for the students attending school. This week we have begun another school year as students at All Saints Academy have returned. Because of the new school year you will notice in the schedule of Masses that the Wednesday Mass once again will be at 10:30 a.m. for the benefit of the little ones. Having a Mass at 8:30 a.m. is not conducive to chil-dren in the lower elementary grades as they are not yet awake. Most of the time though they are awake, attentive, and more able to participate at Mass in a constructive way at 10:30 a.m. than they would be at 8:30 a.m. Feel free to join us any Wednesday for Mass as it is not a "school" Mass as some refer to it since there is no such thing as that, but is the Parish daily Mass at which we welcome the children from All Saints Academy to join us. Remember that the benefit of a Catholic school is not just the ability of the students to attend a Mass during the week, in addition to Sunday Mass, but also the entire environment that we create for them each day which was not able to be created for me when I was their age as I was a student in a public school. Sometimes people refer to the United States of America as a "Christian" country which it is obviously not the case or else I would have been able to experience at the public school the environment we try to create in the Catholic school whereby everything we do each day we teach the students we do in the presence of God. In the public school I experienced this false separa-tion of Church and State with some saying that God has no role in the working of the State. That would be impossible to say in a Catholic school. The Catholic school is not just about Mass, or saying prayers, or having a class in reli-gion, but is also about how we stand in line at lunch or at the drinking fountain or in the bathroom, or how we play on the playground, or ride the bus if we ride the bus, etc. We try to teach the students that everything we do we do with God with us. We teach them that there is no time to come and no place to which we can go when God is not with us -- in other words no separation of God from us. That is what I call the "context" of the Catholic school that we have the ability to create which the public school staff was not al-lowed to create for me even if they personally believed it. Please keep the students in your prayers as no school is perfect and we would not claim that honor for our-selves here. We do have some problems as does every school, but we try to minimize them. As I remind everyone the purpose of the Catholic school is to assist the families to be good Catholic families and to help the students grow in the grace of God to be good Catholic adults. Your pray-ers are and will be always helpful in that effort.
