    Questions about the story:

    • Do you remember the Hedghog’s name?

    • Why was she building the hedge?

    • Do you remember the other characters in the story?

    • Which character came first and last?

    • Why is it important to be kind to our friends?

    • Why is it important to share?

    Writing activity:

Today we will be writing our favourite part of Don’t hog the Hedge using the worksheet. You can print off the worksheet or create your own!

You will be writing your favourite part of the book first.

Parents, using a yellow pen for your child to trace over will help their letter formation if they are finding writing tricky.

First, we need to look at the total number at the end and see what it is. The end number is how many spots we need to draw on the ladybird! When you have drawn on the dots I would like you to write how many spots are on each ladybird.

Extension: Once completed the ladybird spots worksheet your child can try and make their own ladybird spots! They can draw the spots on first and add how many they have.

different movement cards for you to follow, these can be printed or used on the computer, the link can be found below.

    Movement cards

will allow a large object such as an orange, to float and not touch the bottom. You will also need the items listed below on the print out to start, before placing each object into the water get your child to predict if they think it will float to the top or sink to the bottom, after placing each item into the bowl of water get your child to mark on their sheet or on a separate bit of paper the result. Sink or Float sheet

After you have finished your first sheet, now it’s your chance to be creative. There is another sheet for you to use, this time you get to pick the different objects that you will be putting in the water! You will be able to record this on the sheet, predicting what you think will happen before putting the object

  • You can also use a green pen for your child to mirror underneath which can help and guide them when writing.

When your child has compeleted the writing activity we would like a picture to match their sentence.

Warm up activity before starting our writing.

    Seqencing activity:

Once you have completed the writing activity above you can try and recall the story and put the story cards in order from beginning to end?

Parents, encourage your child to talk about the story out loud and descibe

We would love to see their work on the ladybird spots!

As the children are experimenting with what will sink and what will float, you are able to ask them different question, to help with their compression of the experiment.

    Question:

    • Does an orange float when placed in the water?

    • Do you think an avocado will float? Why/ Why not?

    • Did the coin sink to the bottom or float on top?

  • the pictures on the cards. This can be done independently as they need to look at the pictures.

    • Why do some items sink to the bottom of the bowel and others float to the top?

    • Why do you think some fruit sinks and some float? Is it because it has seeds?

    • Were your predations correct? • Why do you think some of your

predictions where correct and some of them where not?

After completing your experiments and answering the questions, the children are able to watch a short video to further understand floating and sinking

Have a fantastic time conducting your experiment!

    Warm up activity before writing.

Afternoon: What is Hattie the hedgehog saying? Hattie the Hedgehog is thinking of an object and then saying it. But we need to find the missing sounds in the words so we can make the word! Parents, I have included words that are easy to do and some that are tricky to do. Work together with the children to sound out the letters!

Afternoon: Flower number line This afternoon we are going to create our own number line! We can make this number line and use it when we do our maths! This is a great activity to do to help with number formation as well as ordering numbers.

    Afternoon: Play dough Hedgehog

This afternoon let’s use our fingers and build with play dough!

Once we have our play dough in front of us, let’s begin to roll it into a large ball, then using our fingers to make the play dough into a teardrop shape,

Afternoon: My 5 senses Let’s learn about our senses, did you know that we have 5 senses that help us every day to understand the world around us? Let’s watch a short video and discover what they are. After watching the video, you can ask your child some questions.

    https://mulberryhouseschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/sharing-a-shell-writing-activity.pdfhttps://www.loom.com/share/84045df7b0c64969bd1ff15cc751df30https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1xNuU7gaAQ

  • The worksheet would be great to use however, if you are unable to print write the words down on a normal piece of paper.

To make this number line you will need:

    • Play dough • Lolly pop sticks • Cupcake cases • Paper • Coloured markers • Glue

First, cut out small circles to put inside your cupcake case. Then your child is to write the number on the circles from 1-20. Then stick the circles inside the cupcake case with the number facing up. Stick the cupcake case onto the lolly pop stick. When completed all 20 mix them all up for your child to order by placing them into their play dough.

    Have fun!

pushing the flatten side of each biscuit to form the face.

They are then able to roll smaller balls to make the eyes and nose. The children can go on a stick hut in the garden if it’s nice outside to find for the hedgehogs spikes or you are able to use spaghetti also to make the spikes.

After Making your hedgehog you are also able to make as many different hedgehogs as you can, maybe you able to use more play dough to make the spikes this time.

You are also able to use a play dough mat where it asks to you to make your

hold the blanks and sheets in place)

    • Chairs/couch/table (something to give height to the den)

    • Cushions

The children are able to use these materials either inside or outside. Draping the blankets/sheets over the object giving height to the den, you are able to then place the cushions inside to you have something to sit on.

This afternoon we are going to be making a leaf hedgehog, he will look like he is hiding in the leaf’s getting ready to hibernate. Materials:

    • Hedgehog template • Leaf template • Scissors • Pencils • Glue

Step 1. Print the templates off or draw the template onto paper. Step 2. Colour in your templates, remembering what colour hedgehogs are and what colour leaf are in autumn. Step 3. Cut out your coloured in templates. Step 4. Using glue to stick the leaves onto the back of the hedgehog to represent the hedgehog spikes on his back. Step 5. You are able stick your hedgehog up in your house. Hedgehog template

This morning we looked at the story ‘Sharing a shell’ in this story the crab was very kind and shared his shell with his friends. This afternoon let’s think about how we can share and why we should share with our friends, teachers and our families. We will be making sharing hands, the template can be found below, and we are going to be writing different words onto our hands so we are able to remember why it’s important to share. Materials:

    • Sharing hands template • Pens and pencils • Scissors

Step 1. Print of the template / draw template. Step 2. Using the scissors cut around the hand template. Step 4. Using the pencils you are able to colour in your hand. Remember to use skin colour! Step 5. Now, you are to write 4 different words onto the template about sharing. These maybe words like:

    • Kind • Together • Team • Playing
