Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII-TN) Tamil Nadu, an autonomous

society of the Government of Tamil Nadu was established in 2001, to promote entrepreneurship

and MSME sector across the State. Sprawling in the strategic industrial location at Guindy,

Chennai, EDII-TN is committed on creating an aspirational entrepreneurship and innovation culture

amongst all segments, especially the youth community, leading to creation and growth of large

number of innovative businesses predominantly in the manufacturing sector. EDII-TN extends

support, training and facilitation to budding & existing entrepreneurs, MSME clusters, Startups,

Colleges & Universities and establishes incubation centres to create and nurture an E&I ecosystem.

Goals:

The Strategic Plan to achieve by 2021:

Train 50,000 new entrepreneurs & network them.

Create a vibrant entrepreneurial climate in 1000 colleges, polytechnics, ITIs with

functioning IEDCs and E-clubs.

Support establishment of 10 world class technology incubators in thrust sectors with focus

on manufacturing.

Support establishment of Business Incubators in 100 colleges & research institutions.

Encourage, facilitate and support emergence of 5000 technology startups in Tamil Nadu in

manufacturing sector.

Spread aspirational entrepreneurship & innovation culture in Tamil Nadu - Build entrepreneurial

competencies of aspiring youth and entrepreneurs - Enhancement of the support ecosystem for

entrepreneurs, including technology startups - Reduction in risk of enterprise and innovation

failures - Embedding entrepreneurship education in the formal education system - Research,

surveys and publications on entrepreneurship and innovation - Vibrant partnerships with all

Government and non-Government players in the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem,

including policy advocacy for Entrepreneurship and innovation with Government agencies.

EDII- TN has two buildings which are situated in the industrial area of Guindy Chennai City with all

advanced facilities required to function as training institute. EDII-TN premises has state of the art

lecture halls, smart class rooms, Computer Labs, an Auditorium, a Library with good number of

collections etc. A new hostel facility in the campus can accommodate 30 persons in 10 rooms.

EDP Division

Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) Division

EDP Division in EDII-TN is focused on Entrepreneurship Development training (EDP),

Business Facilitation Services Programme (BFSP) and mentoring activities for the aspiring

entrepreneurs. In addition to this, training programme for the existing entrepreneurs such as GST

& E-Way Billing, Tax planning, Fund flow Management, Import and Export Documentation, Digital

Marketing, Etc., to enhance quality, Marketing and competitiveness in the MSME sector. Besides

Need based programmes like Seminars, Workshops for the entrepreneur community to address

the need and opportunities in MSME sector. The division is also organizing various workshops for

State and Central Government Department Staffs for capacity building. As the EDII-TN is the

nodal agency for imparting training to the scheme beneficiaries of various schemes such as NEEDs,

UYEGP, Etc., regular EDP programmes in difference streams are organised across the state

through various PIAs, namely, District MSME Associations, Colleges (hub and spokes), RSETIs and

BYST.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (IEDP)

IEDP Division in EDII-TN is facilitating creation of Entrepreneurial & Innovative Ecosystems

in Universities, Colleges, Polytechnics and ITI’s through training and orientation to management

and faculty in learning by doing methodologies and also in bringing in online Entrepreneurship

learning to college campuses.Under IEDP programme, Top Management orientation workshops,

Faculty Development Programme, E-Leader workshops for students, startup activation

programmes like the Tamil Nadu Student Innovators (TNSI), Tamil Nadu Innovation Grand

Challenge (TNIGC), Enantra Pitch-Fest by Anna University E-Cell,Industries & Intuition

Collaboration, Business Plan Preparation, etc are organised. IEDP program includes massive open

online course for E-Cell students on entrepreneurship Development.Start-up activation program

are aimed at promotion of innovation and startups. IEDP Division conducts start-up activation

ICT Division

Information & Communication Technolocy

Various promotional activities are undertaken for dissemination of information pertaining

to entrepreneurship eco system in Tamil Nadu. Mass outreach programs through Doordharshan

and All India Radio are made to educate the unemployed youth, MSMEs on the importance and

opportunities in Entrepreneurship. To recognize the MSME sector, International MSME day and

National Entrepreneurship week are celebrated in which successful entrepreneurs, mentors,

service providers, etc., are felicitated. Special programs like Startup Ulas, Field Exposure Visits,

Social Entrepreneurship, technology oriented special programs etc are conducted in the state.

Besides, EDII-TN has been supporting startups/innovators on various aspects to create startup eco

system in Tamil Nadu. One such effort for startups/innovators is creating platforms to

commercialize their innovative products/ technologies in the fairs/events/exhibitions held in India.

Also promotional activities through web portal and social media are made to create awareness and

opportunities prevalent in the MSME sector to the general public.

Cluster Development Program

Cluster Development is one of the key strategies for the sustainability of MSMEs. It plays a

vital role in enhancing productivity, quality, competitive pricing, marketing of MSME products, etc.,

As such Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute is extending its support through

soft interventions by organizing various programs/ workshops / seminars / meetings for Cluster

Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) members and cluster members across the State through ‘Cluster

Development Programs’. Under MSE-CDP, programs for both existing and new clusters are

conducted to facilitate the cluster members right from awareness, trust building, formation and

towards achieving sustainability. Besides, supports such as cross cluster visit, preparation of

DSR/DPR, etc., are also extended for the benefit of MSME Cluster communities.

I&I Division

Innovation And Incubation Division

Innovation & Incubation division is primarily focused on establishing manufacturing

business incubators in Tamil Nadu, and also organizingtrainings on MSME Research & Capacity

Building/Technopreneurship. Training programmes on emerging technologies are being organized

by the division to promote innovation and research and to uplift the soft/technical skills of the

MSME /Start-up entrepreneurs under and ‘incubaTN’ Conference Series.

Workshops on MSME Research like ‘Research Methods’ and ‘Business Development’ are

conducted to identify the gaps that hinder MSME growth and to imply right policy decisions. Bio-

entrepreneurship centric workshops and Bootcamps are organized in collaboration with reputed

organizations like Women Bio-tech Park, IIT Madras and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

Women techpreneurs are supported with deep-tech training for prototype development through

Start-up Sandbox Programme in association with IIITDM. The soft/management skills of incubation

managers are fostered by training to Incubation Managers as EDII-TN has involved in the

establishment of manufacturing business incubators across the State.

Co-ordination and RD Programme

Co-ordination Division deals with the infrastructure development of EDII-TN in IT related

activities and generation of E-Certificates for those who have attended the training programme

that are conducted in Co-ordination with EDII-TN under different schemes such as MUDRA, UYEGP,

NEEDS etc. The E-Certificate issued by EDII-TN can be verified online. This Section is also

maintaining EDII TN web portal, http://www.editn.in and provides platforms of Social Media such

as Face Book, Twitter and YouTube to disseminate the activities of EDII. Facilities are being

extended by EDII-TN to avail online registration of candidates for attending various types of

entrepreneurial training. E –Learning topics relevant to MSME sector have also been recorded and
