    Tourism Mezzogiorno:

    Introduction:1. The region that I have studied is the Mezzogiorno. Physical

    factors and human factors have influenced the development

    of tourism in this region.

    2. A region is an area of the earths surface that has one or more

    characteristics, e they physical or socio!economic, "hich

    distinguish it from other areas.

    Physical Factors:1. In the summer, high pressure ensures days are sunny, dry and

    almost cloudless "ith temperatures averaging at 2#$%,ma&ing the Mezzogiorno attractive for sun holidays.

    2. The comination of the regions Mediterranean climate and

    the rain shado" provided y the Apennines, means that

    annual precipitation is e'tremely lo" at less than ()) mm, a

    ma*or pull factor for many tourists.

    +. The Mezzogiorno has also een ale to overcome seasonality

    ecause of the mild "inter temperatures, rarely droppingelo" 11$%, and the attraction of the s&i resorts of the

    Apennines.

    . The reno"ned coastlines of the region, such as the Almafi

    coast, containing the sun!drenched resort of -orrento, ma&e

    the Mezzogiorno an e'cellent each!holiday destination.

    (. The scenic attractions of the islands of -icily, -ardinia and

    %apri, along "ith the ay of /aples, are "ell &no"n andcontinually attract large numers of tourists.

    not an overly commercialised region, and "ith ( eing

    upland and hilly, the area provides spectacular vistas.

    geomorphilogical sites "ith volcanoes, such as Mt. 4esuvius

    destinations.

    Human Factors:

    destinations in the Mezzogiorno ma&e the region much more

    the south "est of the Mezzogiorno has greatly improvedaccessiility for tourists.

    ased in %ampania, "ith the numer of tourists using the

    service increasing from +1,))) in 2))1 to 13),))) in 2))+.

    (. 4isitors can also en*oy the many archaeological treasures of

    the Mezzogiorno, from the e'cavated 7oman to"n of

    Pompeii to the 6ree& temples that litter -icily.
