    an entire department is not a task to betaken lightly. Theholster must be evalu-ated for safety, durability, appearance,and, most importantly, utility. Then,oncethe holster is selected and acquired,youwill have to train with it until draw-ingand reholstering aresecondnature.

    If you are a trainer, supervisor, or ad-ministratorwho isoutfitting a number ofofficers with new holsters, you shouldkeep in mind the professional manage-ment paradigm. The rule here is thatmaximum officer preparedness can beachieved by choosingequipment, in thiscase,holsters,with protocolsthat providea fair and comprehensiveevaluation, byrequiring officers to train with the newequipment before using it in the field,and by making surethat each officerhasadequatesupervision.
