Welcome to Second Harvest Food Bank’s Make Hunger History Awards!
In the Bay Area, we’re fortunate to have a robust
tech sector and a rebounding economy. But look
beyond the rebar of new construction projects and
the highways packed with commuters, and you’ll
see families struggling to make ends meet.
You might see the college student who waters
down his soup, hoping to stretch it a bit further. Or
the third-grader who can’t focus on her homework,
because the free school lunch is all she’s had to eat
today.
Hunger snatches away opportunity. In fact, we
know that 47% of our clients choose between food
and educational expenses. Hunger piles one more
worry on families already stressed about making
rent, paying medical bills, or stretching a gas tank to
get to work.
That’s where you come in. With your support,
families have one less tough choice to make. They
can breathe easier knowing that they’ll have their
most foundational need met: Food.
Because you’re with us, we can harness our
community’s innovative spirit to uplift our neighbors
in need. Your commitment has enabled us to
distribute 31 million pounds of fresh produce last
fiscal year. We’re equipping our community partners
with industrial-grade refrigerators and freezers, so
they can distribute more food, safely. As one of the
most efficient nonprofit organizations in the nation,
we transform a $1 donation into 2 nutritious meals.
