Today’s Sermon Topics
Morning Sermon: Truths OF Influence — Matthew 13:43 Evening Sermon: Worship In Song & Prayer
Influence: “the capacity or power to be a compelling force on the actions, behavior, and opinions of others.” For God’s people, faith becomes the influencing force that helps someone see God’s power or ability to trans-form hands, lives, and hearts. 1. Influence is Rooted in Authenticity. A. Jesus describes a landowner who discovers that his field has both ____________ and ___________ growing in the same place. (Matt. 13:24-30, 36-43) 1. Jesus uses this picture to describe a world where His followers live among people who do not follow Him. 2. The wheat will continue to be wheat. 3. It will remain wheat even in the midst of the weeds. B. This parable underscores the importance for us to be genuine, _________, and authentic. 1. The world if full of counterfeits. (2 Cor. 11:13-15; Matt. 7:21-23) 2. Jesus’ parable reminds us that in the end all will be ______________ out according to His justice, watchfulness, faithfulness, and love. (2 Cor. 5:10; Heb. 9:27) C. Authenticity will always point to the truth found in Jesus. (Matt. 5:16) 2. Influence Grows Awareness. A. The Parable of the Mustard Seed, talks about how a ___________ seed can grow into a large tree. (Matt. 13:31-32) 1. In this parable Jesus highlights the long-term power of influence. 2. Every opportunity, no matter how big or how small, has the potential to influence those around us to walk a life of _____________. (Gal. 6:6-10) B. Influence often starts out as a small thing. 1. The small things hold the potential to grow into larger conversations, opportunities, or teaching moments. 2. Over time, a willingness to walk with a neighbor becomes a safe haven for the troubled, a resting place for the weary, and a refueling station for the hungry. (Rom. 15:1-3) “We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3 For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” C. Along with the awareness of an opportunity to serve, we must be aware of the need to _______________ the act of service with the grace of God. 3. Influence Highlights Accountability. A. This is one of the instances in which Jesus uses _____________ in a positive light. (Matt. 13:33) B. Jesus is talking about the accountability that goes along with influence. (1 Cor. 9:19-23) 1. Every person we _____________ is a person we influence for good or bad. 2. Jesus calls us to be aware of every encounter because we never know the extent of the impact we may have on the lives of those around us.
