This is the eighteenth year of publication of the Carolina Trace Buyer’s Guide, and many local businessesand professionals continue to support us and we encourage you to support them. With helpful communityinformation and map, we hope you keep this guide in your home throughout the year as a quick reference.
With new ownership of Carolina Trace Country Club by Escalante Golf, Inc., there have obviously beenmany changes with publication of this guide to include our new logo on the cover. One thing that has notchanged, and we personally want to assure you, is that 100% of the net proceeds from this guide is returnedto our members for golf and tennis association events. While Carolina Trace Country Club is no longer a“member-owned” asset of your community, it is our hope that this organization will continue to find a placewithin your homes and community as a valuable asset. We are pleased to be a part of this excellentpublication to assist our community with services, products, and amenities available to us all.
You may have already noticed that Carolina Trace Country Club is well underway with providing an even morebeautiful Club and golf course. Major components of the update to the course include the rebuilding of all thebunkers with new drainage, liners and whiter sand, a few bunkers have been removed that are out of play orirrelevant, while some of the bunkers are being re-positioned as they are no longer in play for the better playerswith today’s club technology. At the same time we have been careful to not make them more in play for thehigher handicapper. We are adding some length to the course, in hopes of attracting some higher profiletournaments that will in turn, help the entire Sanford community and economy. These renovations are expectedto be complete by October 1st, 2015.
In addition, we understand the importance of a world-class, full service Clubhouse, not just golf. We areupgrading the facade of the building and completely redesigning the fitness facility. Of course, there will be alittle more dust, but it is important to note that the club will remain open throughout the construction. We expectthe renovation to the Club to be complete and ready for you to further enjoy in early 2016.
We offer multiple membership categories that fit your lifestyle and budget, from a dining/social only to a FullGolf and Club Access. We also offer the Clubhouse to members and non-members for special events withsuperb service and dining options surrounded by beautiful views of Lake Trace and the golf course. What is a “trace” and why is this community called “Carolina Trace”?– Trace: defined as “a mark left by something which was preceded” is a reference to the Indian
heritage of hunting bison and leaving “traces” or artifacts that have been discovered within the area. The founder of this development also was reminded of the “trace” or line which connectedwork horses or mules to their harnesses; a nod to the proud agricultural history of this region.
Who is the founder/original developer of Carolina Trace?– W.M. “Bill” Arnold and his wife, Joyce are credited with the initial idea and planning.
What responsibility does Carolina Trace Association have towards my home or neighborhood?– Defining the roles and responsibilities of any organization within Carolina Trace is beyond the
scope of this publication. In general: gate security, Traceway maintenance, liaison with outside agencies and providing a forum for all POAs to discuss community-wide issues.
What is a POA and how many are there in Carolina Trace?
– Property Owner Associations (POAs) also known as HOAs (Homeowner) in other regions are the individually governed subdivisions within Carolina Trace. Who owns Carolina Trace Country Club (CTCC)?– Carolina Trace Country Club was member-owned from 1987-2014. In July 2014, CTCC

What is there to do around here besides golf?– CTCC supports many other activities in the community besides athletics. Numerous card
groups including Bridge, Texas Holdem & Gin as well as other non-card groups such as Bingo, Bunco and Mexican Train. Several community garden clubs and an excursion group called Trace Travelers and so many other activities! For more information [email protected]

– Yes, that is the Gaster Cemetery. There are actually five cemeteries on Carolina Trace (Gilmore, Wicker, Hawley/Brooks, Dodd/Cox & Gaster), for more information and a self-published guide contact John Altenburger – [email protected].
Who is responsible for picking up trash along Traceway?– You are. While there are occasional landscaping and clean-up crews working along the road,
most if not all road trash along Traceway is picked up by Trace resident volunteers. In front of Carolina Trace, monthly volunteers participate in the “Adopt-A-Highway” program along Hwy 87-contact Debbie Betts, 919-498-6429.
What sort of emergency plan/preparedness do we have?– This is another topic beyond the scope of this publication. However, Carolina Trace does have

Lee County Trivia– Lee County was formed in 1907 from portions of Moore, Harnett and Chatham counties. A
railroad passenger stop along the Raleigh/Augusta Rail became the quickly growing town of Sanford and those residents found it too difficult and time consuming to travel to Carthage (Moore county seat) for government services along the sandy roads using the wagon and buggy options available back then.
– At 259 square miles, Lee County is one of the smaller counties in North Carolina, but the smallest is Clay County (221 sq miles). The county is divided between the Piedmont (foothills)to the north and the Sandhills (ancient dunes) to the south.
– The are two municipalities within Lee County: Sanford and Broadway. Unincorporated areas are Colon, Lemon Springs, Cumnock, Tramway & Carolina Trace.
