The percentage of people who say they definitely do not believe in God has remained constant at around 6-7% with only a brief

bump up to 9% in 1995.

Over the last few decades the percentage of those making this claim has dropped significantly.

The percentage of atheists is the highest level ever recorded for

any age group at 16%.

40% are sitting in the middle of the “God continuum” undecided on belief verses non-belief. This group will soon be joined by the new breed God-thinkers – the

emerging millennials.

Among those who believe in God and are professing Christians

there is increasing division about what is God is like.

People are less inclined today to follow denominational beliefs and

practices and are forming their own views of God by taking bits and pieces from other religions, cultural influences and personal

views.

Biblical literacy is at an all-time low. Many in these camps have

views of God that no longer resemble historical views of God

and have become their own individualized religions.

Question

“How do we know what God is like?”

Answer

“We know what God is like through the person and work of Jesus Christ.”

“Why should I accept Jesus as the source of understanding what

God is like?”

apostles and it is possible he was one of them.–He was a Jew who believed in Jesus in

that he had a thorough knowledge of the Old Testament, Hebrew culture and beliefs, and Jesus and the New Covenant.

Why should I accept Jesus as God’s ultimate revelation?

I. Because He supersedes all past methods of revelation (1-2)

There are two basic premises to historical Christianity.

1. There is a God. 2. He has spoken.

The ultimate question is, “How has God revealed Himself?”

1. God has spoken in creation (Psalm 19) which we call “General Revelation.

“Logos”

The idea of message, logic, reason, thought, and communication. Jesus is identified as the Word- the “logos”. He is Gods communication of Himself in the flesh

Does this story make sense?

A seashore is a better place than the street because you need lots of room. At first it is better to run than to walk. You may have to try several times. It takes some skill, but it is easy to learn. Even young children can enjoy it. Birds seldom get too close. If there are no snags it can be very peaceful. But if it breaks loose, you won't get another chance.

Once you have Jesus as the context or the framework of understanding God and creation, all of the details start to fall into place.

It is through relationships with lost people that we can make God known to them.
