WORLDWIDE DEVELOPMENT
• All countries in the world are reconsidering their energy mix, many now also stepping up on H2 and publishing their Hydrogen visions and Roadmaps
• Cost of renewable electricity now lower than from other sources, if conditions are optimal
Main questions on the table for H2 export:
1. Further reductions of production and logistics costs
2. Carrier choice (LOHC, LH2, Methanol, Ammonia), cost, e-efficiency, ease of transportation, safety
3. How to increase production volumes fast enough
4. How to build a large and stable market

SOUTH-AFRICA’S POTENTIAL VERSUS MARKET NEED
High potential country for production of renewables and H2, good conditions, many solar/wind plants in place and/or planned.
Internal use of renewables and hydrogen are as relevant as production for export, as the potential of SA would allow for both
SA could be a competitive producer, price-wise
The market in EU is expected to be some 60 million tons per annum in total, with EU not being able to produce enough itself, requiring imports
Market opens via Port of Rotterdam, as Energy Gateway port for NW Europe 20 million tons per annum – to be sourced worldwide
