Dear Parents, Staff and Children,

Sunbury West On Show

Thankyou to the many families who came along to Sunbury West On Show last Thursday. The

children were very excited about sharing their learning and performing for their families. Again,

events such as this highlight the great community spirit of our school. Thank you to all staff,

parents and students for making it such a wonderful occasion. Thankyou also to Matt Rich for the

instrumental performance and to Fiona Cavigan for her work with the Body Beats program.

We look forward to families joining us for our Colour Run on the 9th November.

Sunbury West Primary School Values

A display officially launching Sunbury West’s new values was also set up during Sunbury West On

Show. Our values are defined by our commitment ‘To Respect’, ‘To Belong’, ‘To Strive’ and

underpin our daily interactions and practices at our school. These values have been determined

through an extensive consultation process with staff, students and parents. We will share these

formally at our next assembly on Monday 12th November.

Regional Athletics Finals

On Wednesday 17th October, Eli Skinner represented our school in the Regional Athletics Finals.

Eli competed in the Hurdles, however due to an unfortunate fall in the heat, missed out on

qualifying for the finals. We know how hard Eli tried and as a school, we are extremely proud of his

achievement.

Junior School Council

On Wednesday 24th October, our six Junior School Councillors attended our monthly School

Council Meeting. They had the opportunity to explore the operation of our School Council and ask

questions about the various responsibilities of Council. The JSC presented a report discussing their

work through out the year. Councillors were very impressed by the students and the confidence

with which they shared their work. We have invited the JSC to present this again at our assembly

on Monday 12th November.

Poppy Wall

Thankyou to Mrs Tame who came along to school to add some final touches to our Poppy Wall. It

now bears a little hand sewn plaque stating, ‘Created in 2015 by students, families and staff of

Sunbury West Primary School to commemorate 100 years of ANZAC’. Mr Tim Smith and Ms

Cassandra Marr were particularly impressed by this during their recent visit.

Thanks Wendy!

Here are some photos from a couple of weeks ago when Cassandra Marr, the Liberal Candidate for Sunbury visited the school with the Shadow Minister for

Education, Mr. Tim Smith. Some time ago, Ms. Marr spoke with me about our school’s needs and aspirations in terms of equipment and resources.

During their visit, Mr. Smith and Ms. Marr pledged that should Liberal come into power, they will grant the school all the items discussed. This entailed full

installation of our shade sails, science and technology equipment including 20 iPADs and a 3D printer and the installation of a synthetic running track around

the perimeter of the oval. As a school we appreciate the support of both political parties and acknowledge the opportunities they provide to the Sunbury

community.

Today the children watched the AMANASKA Around the World in 80 Days perfor-mance. They explored the world of multimedia, instruments from the world and the layering of music. The students enjoyed listening to the beats and different music.

Introducing our Sunbury West Values

We Respect. We Belong. We Strive.

Have a look around our school at our fantastic posters which talk about our

school values! We have been discussing these in our classroom, what they

mean and how we can “live” these values in our school day. These posters

show the pride that our students have in their school – and are worth a look!

Winners of our poster competition will be announced in the coming weeks.

At our Housemates session last week we read a book about a girl called

Sunday Chutney who has been the “new girl” at school many times. We

thought about ideas that we can use to help new people at Sunbury West

feel that they belong. Sunbury West students are a very welcoming lot as

they came up with lots of ideas!!

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK OVERLEAF AT OUR

School Wide Positive

Behaviour Matrix Developed with our staff, students and school

council this is all the positive behaviours we think

are important at Sunbury West!

It is based on our values of We Respect. We Belong.

We Strive.

It is being introduced to our students this term –

please read and discuss with your children!
