ADVANCE PREPARATION AND PRE-CUT FOR 12 BLOCK TECHNIQUE BUILDING SERIES

TO ORDER TIMELESS WITH A TWIST (SERIES ONE)

In order to prepare for class, you must order Timeless with a Twist Series One Package in advance of class. To make the best use

of class time, pre-cutting will be performed for each of the blocks, in advance of class. PLEASE ORDER THE PACKET at least 30 days

    in advance.

    • Timeless with a Twist – Series One – Retails for $48. Students enrolled in the class will receive a discount of $12. Cost $36* • To order your Student Packet –

    • Email Michelle at [email protected]. o In the email, please state the Event/Class you are taking. o Plus, provide your Mailing Address and if you would like the packet *shipped First Class (averages $4-5) or

    Priority (averages $8-9).

o Please advise if you would like the recommended** 3-in-1 Color Tool ($18) shipped with your packet • Michelle will send you an electronic invoice that you can pay online and then she will ship you the packet with pre-class

    cutting tips.

    PRE-CUT AND ORGANIZATION:

Each day, of the Three-Day class, Michelle will cover 3-4 Blocks. It is important for you to pre-cut for each Block as Michelle may

take the Blocks out of order to ensure the best use of class time. There is no need to pre-cut the finishing unless you plan to sew

    several hours into the evening.

    • Once you receive your Timeless with a Twist packet, you will want to familiarize yourself with the layout of the instructions. • For each block:

o 4-page colored Booklet with cutting instruction on page one o Color advice offering Split Complementary and Triadic color-plan suggestions.

    • Additionally, the **3-in-1 Color Tool is recommended – You can pre-order this with your TWT Packet (see above)

    • Plus, a 16-page colored Finishing Booklet, offering three quilt setting options. o You will want to determine which setting you would like in order to purchase Fabric. You do not need to pre-

cut for the finishing, unless you plan to sew several hours each night.

    • Determine the Fabric you are going to use for the series o It is very important for you to follow the Fabric Value suggestions. If you need help with Color, please see

Michelle’s Blog at https://sewonthego.blogspot.com/ and search for “Color” or just page back through her

posts. If you still need help, please email her with photos.

    • After you have your fabric selected, now it is time to select the fabric for each block. • Michelle recommends that you work through the fabric selection for each of the blocks before cutting any of the fabric.

This way you will make sure you use all of your fabric throughout the quilt.

o Michelle finds it helpful to use a bit of all her fabric for the project at least once in the first six block and at least once in the last six blocks.

o Pay attention to the recommended color plans and especially the color value suggestions. • On each of the Block’s instruction sheets, there is a place for you to tape your color selections, please use this as it will

help you stay organized and to use the proper fabric during class.

    • Next, pre-cut. Note this will take you several hours to preform, do not wait until the night before. o Follow the cutting instructions on page 1, for each block.

§ You only need to cut strips, squares or rectangles. § There is no need to perform any cutting with the Studio 180 Design Tools. Please wait for class to

perform any sub-cutting with the S180 tools, as that will be instructed in class.

o Stay organized and make the best use of your fabric. § Michelle recommends determining the largest width needed of each fabric in the block. Then, cut a strip

the width of the widest unit for each fabric. Next, sub cut the smaller units that require the same fabric.

    • Example – Color 1 requires (2) 4” squares and (1) 5” square to be cut from the same fabric. o Cut (1) 5” x HWOF (21” for a Fat Quarter). o Sub cut (1) 5” square and then cut (2) 4” squares from the remainder of the strip. o Save the remnant of the strips for use in another block.

§ See tips offered in Michelle’s Blog Post - https://sewonthego.blogspot.com/2018/01/block-1-timeless-with-twist-woohoo-it.html

    • Labeling and Transporting: o It is very important to label and keep your pre-cut units organized and ready for class. o Michelle recommends making a (cheap) paper plate for each of the units within each block. Label each paper

plate. Then place the cut pieces on the proper paper plate. For more information on her paper plate technique see

    Michelle’s Blog Post - https://sewonthego.blogspot.com/2018/01/block-3-timeless-with-twist-windmill.html

o To transport to class, Michelle recommends that you place the Paper Plates with the cut fabric for each Block into its own large gallon baggy, then in a Large Storage Bag or Container.

§ Or consider stacking your paper plate, in block order, into a large Potato Chip or Cookie Can. • Reminder of Required Tools and Supply are below. • Remember you can purchase all the required and optional tools in class with a Student Discount.
