Civics – What is it?

• Civics comes from the Latin term Civis

- established by the Greeks (590 BC) - adopted by the Romans• Roman Conquerors - used the term citizen to distinguish between conquered people and those living in Rome

The Romans

• Roman Citizens - were men or boys• Responsibilities - right to vote - say in government - pay taxes - attending assembly meetings - serving in the army

Being an Effective Citizen
