Looking ahead in worship…

Join us beginning May 21 in worship as we tackle some questions people think about but don’t necessarily always ask.

May 21: What about other religions? What do Hindus, Buddhist, Muslims actually believe? How are they different from Christians?

May 28: The Jews are God’s chosen people and yet they reject

Jesus as the Messiah. How do they fit into the big picture? Will the Jews be saved? Our faith as Christians didn’t simply start with Jesus, it started with the Jews. So what about the Jews?

On June 4 we will celebrate the birthday of the church called Pentecost as well as our high school graduates. Don’t miss this festive time of worship. As a part of the celebration we’re asking everyone to wear RED! And one more reason to be in worship on June 4th… Our guest preacher for the day will be our own Brian Sigmon!

Have you ever FELT just so far from God? Have life's challenges and changes left you THINKING you've been left all alone in this great big world? Beginning June 11 we open the book on a new summer series about a man, a boat, a fish and the mistaken notion that we can distance ourselves from God. Spoiler alert: we cannot. And while we may be a million miles from God in our hearts and minds, God is NEVER far from us. So if that is good news for you then don’t miss Jonah!

NOTEWORTHY

Happenings...

Ahhh! The sounds of chancel choirs singing, praise bands lifting up worship filled music, handbells ringing down the aisles, wind ensembles giving uplifting bellowing harmonies through hymns and brass fanfares calling us all into a time of a great worship experience are still echoing in the sanctuary. If you take a quiet moment you might still hear those sounds waffling through the pews! Easter morning was a great and glorious time for all the music department to rise and shine! I hope you have shared with the various groups your appreciation for the countless hours of rehearsal.

During the summer months, we would like to take hymn requests from the congregation. If you have a favorite hymn please jot it down and put it in the offering plate or give to one of the choir members or praise band members. Everyone has a favorite hymn or praise song that rings in your ear throughout the day! This also allows you to be an active part of worship!

Also, the Chancel choir and Handbell Choir will be rehearsing every other week during the summer months. We will begin this schedule on June 7 at 6pm handbells and 7pm Chancel Choir. This will allow us to enjoy the summer months and also continue to strive for excellence in music at Mt Pleasant. If you've been wanting to join either group please contact Tom Jordan and become a part of a fun filled, exciting and most of all, God centered fellowship!

God is Good! All the Time! Blessings,

Tom

Here’s a hint of our mid-summer worship series beginning in July…

Thank you to everyone who supported SWAG Youth

Ministries Parade of Tables/Silent Auction Fund Raiser. We raised around $7000 o go toward our Summer Mission Trip! We can’t wait to head to South Georgia this summer to be Jesus’ Hands and Feet and we couldn’t have done it with out all of you who supported us. Please continue to support us with your prayers!

In the Month of May, we will be working hard on quilts for our graduates. If you can help our youth out with this project, please contact Dawn Bradley or Mindy Curtis. There will be NO SWAG Sundays on Sunday, May 14 for Mother’s Day.

We will also be working hard on our Community Garden across the street from the church! The goal of this project is to not only have fresh vegetables to share with our community but to also bridge the generation gap and connect all ages through the great experience of working a garden. A garden is a great way to encourage physical activity and also achieve a calming mindset. Plans for a sharing box are being discussed so when vegetables have been harvested they can be placed in the box for anyone to take home. There is a need for not only fresh vegetables in our community but the knowledge of how a seed goes into the ground and food comes out. We will be working with others from our church on this project.. You can also sign up by visiting our website,mtpumc.org and clicking on Community Garden. On April 2, during SWAG Sundays, we will have a special guest coming to speak to us about this project.

Our Small Groups are continuing to meet jointly for the rest of this school year on Wednesday nights at 7pm. We are doing a study called Christianity’s Family Tree. Have you ever wondered how the different denominations began ? We are looking at 8 different denominations, what they believe, and how we can appreciate and learn from one another.

On Sunday, June 4th we will recognize our High School

graduates in the 11am worship service. If your son or daughter is graduating this year and would like to be a part of this tradition, please contact the church office @ 704-483-3087 or [email protected].

Mt. Pleasant Preschool News

It’s hard to believe the end of the school year is upon us.

We have really enjoyed getting to know the children. Many thanks to everyone who donated time, money and talents to make this a great year for us!

Our four-year-old classes will be taking a field trip to Balls Creek and Sherrills Ford Elementary Schools to have lunch in the cafeteria and visit the kindergarten classrooms. This is something that the children and parents enjoy doing every year.

Graduation is at 7:00pm on Thursday, May 25th in the Sanctuary. After the program, we will head to the CLC for some snacks and fellowship.

Our End of the Year field trip will be Friday, May 26th at The Lazy 5 Ranch in Mooresville. This is a great time for all the families in the preschool to enjoy together

Thanks again for all the support we have at the preschool. We wish the graduating class the best and we love them all! - Amy Howard,

Preschool Director

We are currently registering for Summer Preschool. The early registration fee will be $25.00. After May 20th, the registration fee will be $35.00. This fee reserves your child a spot in our Summer Program and is also used to cover the cost of supplies used. You may choose which week works best for your summer schedule and pay only for that week or pay by the month. Payments for that week will be due on the first preschool day of each month. If you pay for all the weeks in one month, you will receive a $10.00 discount.

Dear Friends,

Hunger comes in many different shapes and sizes. The faces of hunger would actually surprise you. On an average day we may encounter a working poor family, a homeless veteran, a senior citizen on a fixed income and a child who has not eaten since the day before. The list goes on, but thankfully our community is filled with kind and generous souls such as yourself. Your gift of $600 in March will play a large role in assisting us with providing our services for the nourishment of the men, women and children in our community that need it the most.

Again, thank you so much for your support and for being a key part of our program. Know that your 2017 contribution is greatly appreciated by our staff, volunteers and most importantly our guests. May God bless you for your service and help to our community.

Sincerely, Summer L. Jenkins,

The Corner Tale

Dear Pastor and Congregation, Thank you for your donation of 59 pounds of food during

the month of March to the ECCCM Charlie Bunn Food Pantry!

With the expansion of the Student Hunger Prevention Program, a yearlong program that provides nutritious food to families with vulnerable school-aged children to all Newton-Conover City Schools and Catawba County Schools, we are feeding more people than ever. It is through your generosity that we have been able to meet the growing demands of hunger in Catawba County.

Thank you for partnering with us to provide nutritious food to growing minds, strengthening the future of our community.

Sincerely, Rev. Robert Silber, Executive Director

To All of the Special Folks Who Made My Quilt, Last August my mother-in-law, Joyce Pruitt, requested a

prayer quilt for my surgery. It was so beautiful ad kept me warm during my stay in the hospital. I was certain I had sent you a thank you until today when I found your paper and address with a note to myself. Please forgive this late acknowledgment and know that your quilt was and still is very dear to me. Your care and prayers meant so much as well as my dear Joyce’s thoughtfulness and love.

Sincerely, Mary Ann Gaddy
