Club news

Club Meeting – 25 March Our next club meeting THIS THURSDAY we have our first ‘show and tell night’ – where every member is invited to bring along a print (or digital file) to display to the club and provide a little ‘back-story’, or ask for critique/help, etc. It’ll be non-competitive and designed to assist everyone with their photography in a non threatening environment. 7.30pm at the library, as usual. If you bring a file – it will be uploaded onto the computer at the start of the meeting. Only one image per member (but that could involve ‘pre and post’ versions, if that’s the ‘story’ you wish to tell!). Visitors welcome.

2010 “Hunt & Shoot” - Saturday March 27th at Fitzroy Gardens, East Melbourne Meeting time 10:00am at the Pavilion Café You will be advised of the 4 set subjects on arrival or by ringing Clem on 0409 439 023 after 10:00am If you are arriving later in the day. We have gone for an early start as there is a footy match on at the “MCG” and parking may pose a problem for those not taking public transport. If you are interested in dining together later in the evening, we are looking to book the “Coconut Palms Restaurant”, Vietnamese Cuisine which is located at 183 Smith Street, Collingwood. An average main meal is less than $15:00 and it is licensed or B.Y.O. Please R.S.V.P. as early as possible so Clem can book numbers. R.S.V.P. [email protected] or Tel: Clem 0409 0439 023 This is a chance to rub shoulders with fellow members and maybe even learn a few new tricks. Hope to see you all there!

We’ll be reviewing the photos from the day on Thurs 22nd April at the library, as usual.

Member of the month –Ray Tucker

Member since: Mid ‘08 Ray has been a member for 18 months and joined with his daughter. He has just returned from a VAPS Photography Tour to Vietnam. Ray said it was a great experience and he learnt a lot about the culture there and photography from his fellow traveller’s. He said there was some good street photography and markets everywhere. He particularly enjoyed Hoian and the temples there. The group was constantly on the move seeing different sites. The downside was that he found it hard to have time to change his lens all the time. Ray said that next time he would just take a single multipurpose lens. He also said that one aspect of travel photography that can be frustrating is the tour keeps moving. So, if the weather’s bad, you rarely get the opportunity to re-shoot another day. Overall, Ray had a great time with an experienced guide and found it well priced. Ray is heading out to Alaska in August hopefully armed with a multipurpose lens.
