Visit of Sisters Adorers

Two members of the Sisters Adorers of the Royal Heart came to visit the apostolate last week. Mother Madeleine Marie, the Mother Superior, traveled from the Sisters’ Motherhouse in Italy, and Sister Joseph Marie, came from the Sisters’ convent in Wausau, Wisconsin. On Tuesday June 15, many families gathered in the church garden to welcome the Sisters at a mid-day meet-and-greet event. The Sisters gave a talk on their grow-ing order, vocations, the mission of the Sisters Adorers, and, during con-versations with the faithful, their own vocation stories. A wonderful potluck luncheon was enjoyed by all. Thank you to the Mother Superior and Sister Joseph Marie, for your visit, and thank you to all who orga-nized and contributed to this splendid event!

ANNOUNCEMENTS: A portion of the message from the Diocesan Office of Worship regarding COVID Status Update for Alameda County as of April 20th 2021: We welcome the statement of the Governor removing limits, and agreeing to comply with recent Supreme Court decisions protecting our freedom to worship. The Diocese of Oakland has from the begin-ning of the pandemic taken all appropriate steps to preserve the health and safety of our parishioners, while providing for our people’s right to worship God. The following guidelines apply to Masses, wed-dings, funerals, first communions, baptisms, confir-mation, Quinceañeras—all sacraments and rituals. Capacity ~ There is no-longer a government-restriction on capacity for services, provided that six-foot distancing is observed, masks are worn, and basic hygiene is followed. Family members from the same household may be seated together. Each parish will need to establish what that means in terms of capacity. Music ~ Only cantors, small choirs, and other appointed ministers are allowed to sing at indoor services. They must be masked and maintain physical distance from each other and the congregation... Unless vaccinated, those who are at higher risk of COVID-19 (e.g., those who are sixty-five and older or who have underlying health conditions) are to continue staying at home. Likewise, anyone with a temperature, a cough of any sort, and anyone feeling ill, should not come to the church for a visit or for any ceremonies. For now we urge all parishes to ob-serve this safety protocol until otherwise revised by the county health department…. ● We would like to encourage those who have no seating inside the Church during Mass to please proceed to the Hall where you can view a live-feed of the Holy Mass. With A Father’s Heart (Patris Corde) Joseph found happiness not in mere self-sacrifice but in self-gift. In him, we never see frustra-tion but only trust. His patient silence was the prelude to concrete expressions of trust. Our world today needs fathers. It has no use for tyrants who would domineer others as a means of compensating for their own needs. It rejects those who confuse authority with authoritarianism, service with servility, discus-sion with oppression, charity with a welfare mentali-ty, power with destruction. Every true vocation is born of the gift of oneself, which is the fruit of ma-ture sacrifice. The priesthood and consecrated life likewise require this kind of maturity. Whatever our vocation, whether to marriage, celibacy or virginity, our gift of self will not come to fulfilment if it stops at sacrifice; were that the case, instead of becoming a sign of the beauty and joy of love, the gift of self would risk being an expression of unhappiness, sad-ness and frustration. When fathers refuse to live the lives of their children for them, new and unexpected vistas open up. Every child is the bearer of a unique mystery that can only be brought to light with the help of a father who respects that child’s freedom. A father who real-izes that he is most a father and educator at the point when he becomes “useless”, when he sees that his child has become independent and can walk the paths of life unaccompanied. When he becomes like Jo-seph, who always knew that his child was not his own but had merely been entrusted to his care. In the end, this is what Jesus would have us understand when he says: “Call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven” (Mt 23:9). In every exercise of our fatherhood, we should always keep in mind that it has nothing to do with possession, but is rather a “sign” pointing to a greater fatherhood. In a way, we are all like Joseph: a shadow of the heavenly Father, who “makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust” (Mt 5:45). And a shadow that follows his Son. “Get up, take the child and his mother” (Mt 2:13), God told Saint Joseph. The aim of this Apostolic Letter is to increase our love for this great saint, to encourage us to im-plore his intercession and to imitate his virtues and his zeal. (H.H. Pope Francis)

From a letter to the Philippians by Saint Polycarp, bishop and martyr Let us put on the armor of righteousness It is not out of presumption that I write to you, my brothers, on what righteousness means, but rather be-cause you asked me to do so. For neither I nor anyone like me can equal the wisdom of the blessed and glo-rious Paul. When he was in your city, he fully and courageously taught the men of that time the word of truth; when he was absent, he wrote you letters. By carefully studying these letters, you can strengthen yourselves in the faith that has been given to you. This faith is the mother of us all, followed by hope, preceded by love - love of God, of Christ, of our neighbor. Whoever lives within this framework has fulfilled the commandment of righteousness. For any-one who has love is far from sin. Now the source of all evil is the desire to pos-sess. Mindful that we brought nothing into this world and can take nothing out of it, let us put on the armor of righteousness. We must begin by teaching our-selves how to walk in the commandment of the Lord. Then you should teach your wives to walk in the faith that has been handed down to them, in love and in chastity. They must love their husbands with com-plete fidelity, but they must cherish all others equally, and with self-control; they must raise their children in the discipline that comes from fear of God. We must teach widows to be discreet in all that concerns the faith of the Lord; they must pray without ceasing for all men, shunning all calumny, gossip, false witness, greed, in a word, every sort of evil. They must bear in mind that they are God's sacrificial altar. He sees eve-rything clearly, nothing escapes his vigilance, be it calculation, thought or some secret desire of the heart. God, as we know, is not mocked. Let us walk in a way that is worthy of his commands and his pur-poses. Deacons, in the same way, must be blameless in the sight of his goodness, for they are servants of God and of Christ, not of men. They must avoid cal-umny, hypocritical talk and greed. Merciful and dili-gent, they must control all their desires, walking ac-cording to the truth of the Lord who became the serv-ant of all. If we please him in this life, we shall re-ceive the life to come; for he has promised us that he will raise us from the dead, and that, if we lead lives worthy of him, we shall reign along with him. This is what our faith tells us.

If therefore thou offer thy gift at the altar, and there thou remember that thy brother hath anything against thee, leave there thy offering before the altar, and go first to be reconciled to thy brother; and then coming thou shalt offer thy gift.
