Ash Wednesday Service
Wednesday, March 1st, 7:30 pm
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a forty-day journey
with Jesus (not counting Sundays) of introspection and
repentance. It is a prayerful, searching service of preparation. We engage the
ancient tradition of placing ashes upon the foreheads of the faithful. The ashes
recall both the forming of the first human from the dust of the earth, infused
with God’s own breath, along with the words of mortality from Genesis:
“Remember that you are dust, and to dust shall return.” Receiving the ashes is
completely voluntary. They come from the burning of the extra palm branches
from Palm Sunday, and are mixed with healing oil for anointing. We will also
celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion and be encouraged for our
transformative journey.

Dear Karen, Bonnie and Members of St. Andrew’s, Thank you so much for the very thoughtful bereavement basket. It really was such a comfort to know our church family was supporting and praying for us. My dad would have loved it too! He will be missed by so many! Thanks for everything: the tomato basil sauce, liquid hand soap, Lavender and vanilla candle, fruit jellies, the picture frame, Uncle Woody’s butterscotch popcorn, the two beautiful children’s books (which the granddaughters loved), and last, but not least, these thank-you notes. They were all so appreciated. God bless you all for taking time to make these beautiful baskets. In Christian love, Lee & Shirley Metzger
New Members Class A class of orientation and welcome for New Members will meet on consecutive Sundays in

Andrew’s, or desire to explore the possibility, please let Pastor Scott know ASAP

To the Prayer Shawl Committee,
Thank you very much for the beautiful prayer shawl you gave me following the death of my husband, Russell. It is very beautiful --the colors (various colors of rust, blue, gold) are very comforting.
Thanks again!
Sincerely, June Cressman

St. Andrew’s Church Scholarship Anyone who is planning on taking any continuing education classes is eligible for the church
scholarship. Applications must be submitted to the church office by March 31st. If you are
interested in applying for the church scholarship, applications are available in the church office.
The church offers two $100 scholarships to members of the congregation. Last year’s
recipients were Max Hill and Nik Peterson. You will need two letters of recommendation so
ask those teachers, employers or other people who know you well. You will also need to
write a short essay and fill out a short application. All of which should not take a lot of time.
Who knows, it may be you receiving the scholarship check during worship this summer.
Members of the Scholarship Team include Vi Burg, Karen Rush and Tammy Rush.

Shared Table 2016-2017
The Shared Table Ministry will be visiting the Old First Church in Philadelphia this fall and winter on the third Sunday of each month, November through April. This is a ministry to help feed homeless men at a shelter organized by the Bethesda Project.
The dates for this season are November 20, December 18, January 15,
February 19, March 19 and April 16 (Easter Sunday).
Come share the spirit of The Lord! We depart St. Andrew’s at 4:30pm and return at approx. 9pm. We will provide dinner, dessert, and camaraderie for 35 homeless men each Sunday during our visit. A planning meeting will be held each Sunday a week before the trip to Old First Church. Meals are prepared at home then taken to Old First and served to the men. We need folks to cook and folks to serve.
Contact Tom Tabar (267-218-0531) with questions or if you wish to participate.
2017 Consistory Members Bill Owler, Bonnie Hunsicker, Lee Metzger, Arlie McMahan, Tina Hulshizer, Ron Grace, Melanie Isganitis, Kathy Fretz, Nancy Owler, Herb Volk, Susan Krass Consistory meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of the month at 7:00pm.
