BELLAVISTA TRAIL Rabac › Ripenda Kosi › Standar › Rabac Welcome to Bellavista Trail in Rabac that leads you over the seafront, St. An- drea peninsula and the village Ripenda Kosi to 474 m high Standar, offering a unique view from the plateau with several archeological sites. Placing stone on stone, throughout history people have learned to raise hill forts used for housing and defense, and tumuli (mounds of earth and stones from the pre- historic era that were raised over the graves). The awe-inspiring old dry stone walls stand as history guardians wanting to tell a long-told story. They were constructed at a time when man began to cul- tivate the land and fence it using stone from the earth, and served to delimit areas. Placing stones in rows without any mortar is the oldest way of building in the entire Mediterranean area, as well as in Istria. Stunning views on one side spread over the blue sea and the neighboring is- lands of Cres and Lošinj, and in good weather all the way to mount Velebit, while looking on the other side you’ll discover the mysticism of the bell towers in old medieval towns (Labin, Pićan, Gračišće). Allured by the view and magical scents of Mediterranean herbs you descend through the village Ripenda Vicani to Gornji Rabac and Rabac. HIDDEN CHARMS PROMENADE St. Andrea › Prižnja › Prohaska › St. Andrea Enjoy Rabac, the pearl of the Kvarner Bay, on the sea promenade with the most beautiful Istrian beaches. Start your adventure from peninsula of St. An- drea with the small 15th century church of the same name, the oldest building in resort Rabac. Take a selfie with an interesting sculpture ‘The Pearls’ locat- ed on a rock below the church, or standing next to the sculpture ‘The Wom- an Bathing’ and walk down the promenade and enjoy the beautiful view over the sea and the nearby island of Cres. At the end of promenade, the walk way turns into gravel road leading to Prižnja bay from where you move toward Pro- haska. Prohaska is one of the most beautiful parts of Rabac, named after the family of a merchant from Rijeka, originally from the Czech Republic, who had a mansion built in this part of Rabac, destroyed in the past. After returning choose your place of intimacy in one of the bays with white pebbles, cool down in the crystal clear turquoise sea surrounded with aro- matic scents of pine, rosemary and sage. Finish your walk with fun and recre- ation on the beaches of St. Andrea, Girandella and Lanterna marked with eco- logical Blue Flag. THE TRAIL OF ST. BARBARA Labin › Kapelica › Raša Start with Labin Old town sightseeing and discover the beautiful buildings preserved from Venetian time. Full of impressions, head to Raša in search of new discoveries. The trail passes next to ‘Karlota’, a quarry and one of the mine shafts, introducing you the arrival in the mining town. Like a calming scenery setting, Raša will charm you with its regular lines of houses, immersed in the landscape of Raša valley, which seem almost unreal. Designed by the architect Pulitzer Finali, Raša was built in 1937 as modern city for the needs of miners and their families with all necessary facilities (school, hospital and cinema) and a church dedicated to the pa- troness of miners St. Barbara, built in the shape of an overturned coal wag- on, with its bell tower resembling a miner’s lamp. Even though mining activities in this area finished a long time ago, traces of mining history can be found in the church of St. Barbara, which houses a beautiful collection of mining artifacts. Till your next hike we salute with the traditional miners’ greeting- Good luck!
