1. The Stanley (Colorado, USA)

Have you seen The Shining? If so, you might recognise The Stanley in Estes Park, Colorado. Stephen King

stayed in this hotel, inspiring him to write the horror novel. The Stanley first opened in 1909, and is

famed as one of America’s most haunted hotels. Guests have repeatedly reported apparitions and

missing items, and the hotel has been investigated for paranormal activity by TV programme Most

Haunted. The hotel itself offers resort-like amenities and outstanding panoramic views of the Rocky

Mountain Range. This Halloween, try their pumpkin-spiced whisky or check out the ghost tours, Murder

Mystery dinner or The Shining Halloween Ball. Guests can turn their television to Channel 42 to watch a

continuous loop of the uncut version of Stanley Kubrick’s film.

2. The Langham London (London, United Kingdom)

The Langham London opened in 1865 and is famed as being the oldest of London’s ‘Grand hotels’. The

building, which dates back to 1797, has an intriguing reputation for being haunted, with up to seven

ghosts allegedly occupying the hotel. The most gruesome story involves the spirit of a Doctor, rumoured

to have killed himself after murdering his wife on their honeymoon in the hotel. Guests can request

most haunted room 333 at their own peril. This five star hotel is the epitome of British luxury and class,

featuring an indoor pool, spa facilities, and an award-winning restaurant and bar. Why not try their

special ‘Box’o’bones’ Halloween cocktail – Rye whiskey and Tequila poured over a piece of bone

marrow.

3. Casa Wagner (Brasov, Romania)

What better destination this Halloween than Transylvania – home of vampires, according to Bram

Stoker’s 1897 renowned gothic horror novel, Dracula. The novel is set in Transylvania and Bran Castle,

just outside of Brasov, is thought to be the inspiration behind Dracula’s Castle. Casa Wagner is located in

the heart of Brasov in the main square, allowing guests views of the gothic Black Church and the

mysterious Mount Tampa. The building dates back to 1477 and incorporates period features, but offers

all modern amenities and services for a comfortable and luxurious stay. It is the perfect base for

exploring this gothic region.

no exception. Tiffauges is a medieval castle dating back to the 12th Century, renowned for housing

notorious serial killer Gilles de Rais. This sinister character not only summoned demons in the castle, but

murdered an estimated hundred children. He was hung for his crimes in 1440 and is the inspiration

behind French literary folktale Bluebeard – the castle is often referred to as Bluebeard’s Castle. The

This stunning and iconic Victorian building offers unrivalled grandeur in Southern California, and has

been heralded as one of America’s most beautiful beach resorts. The resort offers spa facilities,

conference rooms, shopping, dining, a range of rooms and suites, bike rental, kid’s club and three

swimming pools. However, a chilling story lies beneath the elegant surface. In 1892, young and beautiful

pregnant. Four days later, she purchased a pistol in the town and shot herself on the beach outside the

hotel. A bottle containing quinine was found in her room, to abort her unborn child. Ever since, hotel

Even the name of this hotel sounds chilling. Contele Vladimir is located in the heart of Transylvania, at

the foot of Bran Castle – Dracula’s Castle. Not only was this castle the inspiration behind literature’s

the Impaler, named due to his practice of impaling his victims. His excessive cruelty claimed an

attention in 1922 and still debated to this day, with evidence emerging as recently as 2011. What

better place to search for this elusive creature than at The Lovat, located on the Southern tip of the Loch

Ness in the small village of Fort Augustus. This Victorian building dates back to the 1860s but was

refurbished in 2007 to offer guests both traditional and modern aspects of Highland life. The rooms are

comfortable and the restaurant is renowned for its traditional Scottish cuisine. Boat trips on the 23 miles
