November 4, 2018

Dear Parishioners,

Someone please tell me where the last five months have gone? November is upon us and I am amazed at how fast time flies by here at Saint Joseph’s. There are so many activities and meetings and gatherings of various groups which occur on a regular basis, sometimes my head is spinning at the end of a day but that is what helps to make this such a great parish filled with wonderful, committed Catholics. Please check the bulletin and announcements for upcoming activities but allow me to call your attention to our yearly “We Remember” mass on Wednesday, November 7th at 7:00 pm in our Church.

Throughout the month of November, we as Catholics traditionally remember and pray for all the deceased in a special way. At our annual “We Remember” Mass, we pray especially for all those whose funerals were celebrated here at Saint Joseph Parish in the past year as well as any services that took place at local funeral homes and graveside services. Please pray with us as we remember all those who live now for all eternity with our God in heaven. Another important reminder is about the mid-term elections in our nation that will be held on Tuesday, November 6th. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops reminds all of us that it is our civic duty to vote and as Catholics that we are to form our consciences in accordance with God's truth. The Church's obligation to participate in shaping the moral character of society is a requirement of our faith. Building a world of respect for human life and dignity, where justice and peace prevail, requires more than just political commitment. Individuals, families, businesses, community organizations, and governments all have a role to play. Participation in political life in light of fundamental moral principles is an essential duty for every Catholic and all people of good will. Let us all pray that God will guide us in the days to come and that we will fulfill our mission as children of our loving God, brothers and sisters in faith.

For more information on voting please check the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference website at:

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)

Join us to learn more about becoming a Catholic

Join us Wednesday, 11-7-18 at 7:00 PM Commandments ~ I-III

RCIA is for those who have never been baptized, baptized in another denomination, or completing reception of the Sacraments of Initiation if already baptized a Catholic. Contact Kathy Thomas for more information at: ([email protected] or 610-873-8798).

Rite of Acceptance Sunday, November 11th at the 10:30 AM Mass We gather the RCIA catechumens and candidates publicly for the first time to declare their intention to the Church, and the Church accepts them as persons who intend to become her members. God’s grace is bestowed on each person.

This takes place after the homily so the entire community of believers is represented. Sponsors present each catechumen and candidate to the Church. Each is embraced by the Church as her own, with a mother’s love and concern.

The Church will continue to nourish them with the Word of God and sustain them by means of her liturgical celebrations. They will receive additional blessings as we journey toward Easter to help them remain strong in their desire to receive the sacraments of Baptism and/or Confirmation and Eucharist.

This year’s catechumens (those not yet baptized) include: Shawn Carretta, Ryan Chacanias, Iona Inthaphone, Abby Lopez, Emily Savattieri, and Jayden Valentine. Our candidates for full communion of the Catholic Church (those baptized into another ecclesial denomination) are: Lindsay Angstadt, Darryl Forster, Noell Lemmen, Brandon Rogenmusser, Stephanie Salvatore, Aaron White, and Marsha Wickes. Candidates who are baptized Catholics seeking to complete reception of the Sacraments of Initiation are: Ana Adorno, Luke Mastrorilli, and Kyle Rheiner.

Feast Day: November 4th

Almighty God,

You have generously made known to human beings the mysteries of Your life through Jesus Christ Your Son in the Holy Spirit. Enlighten my mind to know these mysteries which Your Church treasures and teaches.

Move my heart to love them and my will to live in accordance with them. Give me the ability to teach this Faith to others without pride, without ostentation, and without personal gain. Let me realize that I am simply Your instrument for bringing others to the knowledge of the wonderful things You have done for all Your creatures. Help me to be faithful to this task that You have entrusted to me.

Amen.
