November 11, 2018
Dear Parishioners,
November is traditionally the month when we pray about and reflect on the gift of Stewardship. The United States Catholic Bishops have stated, “As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace" (1 Pt 4:10). What identifies a steward? Safeguarding material and human resources and using them responsibly are one answer; so is generous giving of time, talent, and treasure. But being a Christian steward means more. As Christian stewards, we receive God's gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord.”
I believe that this definition of Stewardship strikes at the heart of what it truly means to be a disciple of Jesus, to share God’s gifts and goodness in justice with others and then to return them with increase to the Lord, that really should be our goal, what we strive to do. All registered families in our parish community will soon receive the 2019 Annual Renewal of Treasure. This is the yearly opportunity all of us have to pray and consider once again our response to Christian Stewardship here in Saint Joseph Parish. You know far better than I do how many wonderful volunteers it takes to help make this parish a true reflection of our faith in Jesus. The time, talent and yes the treasure that each of us is prepared to invest in our parish is a sign of our belief that we are all called to give back to God and our community of faith of the blessings that God has given to us.
I am asking each of you, after prayer and reflection and discussion that you review your goodness to this parish family
and decide how best you can continue to support the work we do here at St. Joseph’s as a family of faith. I do understand that
our parish has been asked to endure a great deal recently and I am aware of what I am asking of you. The only way that we
can continue to do the work of the Lord here in Downingtown and beyond is through your goodness and your witness of faith.
I appreciate and give thanks for all of you and for your joy and your commitment to our parish. I try each and every day to
never take for granted the goodness you share with this family of faith. May God bless you and your families and may the
example of Saint Joseph our patron help to draw us closer to Jesus our brother and Savior.
Peace,
Fr. Steve Leva

RCIA is for those who have never been baptized, baptized in another denomination, or completing reception of the Sacraments of Initiation if already baptized a Catholic. Contact Kathy Thomas for more information at: ([email protected] or 610-873-8798).
Rite of Acceptance Sunday, November 11th at the 10:30 AM Mass
We gather the RCIA catechumens and candidates publicly for the first time to declare their intention to the Church, and the Church accepts them as persons who intend to become her members. God’s grace is bestowed on each person. This takes place after the homily so the entire community of believers is represented. Sponsors present each catechumen and candidate to the Church. Each is embraced by the Church as her own, with a mother’s love and concern. The Church will continue to nourish them with the Word of God and sustain them by means of her liturgical celebrations. They will receive additional blessings as we journey toward Easter to help them remain strong in their desire to receive the sacraments of Baptism and/or Confirmation and Eucharist. This year’s catechumens (those not yet baptized) include: Shawn Carretta, Ryan Chacanias, Iona Inthaphone, Abby Lopez, Emily Savattieri, and Jayden Valentine. Our candidates for full communion of the Catholic Church (those baptized into another ecclesial denomination) are: Lindsay Angstadt, Darryl Forster, Noell Lemmen, Brandon Rogenmusser, Stephanie Salvatore, Aaron White, and Marsha Wickes. Candidates who are baptized Catholics seeking to complete reception of the Sacraments of Initiation are: Ana Adorno, Luke Mastrorilli, and Kyle Rheiner.

8:45 to 10:15 a.m.
St. John Neumann Room
Built upon an intimate relationship,
prayer and spiritual life with Christ,
let us reignite our family relationships to mirror
Christ's love.
Advent is a time to help Christ prepare our souls to
intimately receive Him so He can exalt our souls to
love as He loves.
What would happen to your family if you only spoke
and acted with Christ's love? If you realize this
would be so very good for you and your family,
Christ is offering you His Love to share.
So let us gather together to help Christ exalt us to
love others as He loves us. What a wonderful
Christmas present for your family.
