The Positioning Experts in the Economy ClassCDE/CDB3000 – with Functional Safety
2
CDE/CDB3000 _ Your search is over!
The control performance of an advanced PLC, complex state regulating structures,
numerous simultaneous position measurement systems at very high resolution, clock
synchronism for up to 256 axes accurate to the microsecond – fantastic features of
today’s high-performance drive controllers.
But – do you really need all that? If you do, then our new CDE /CDB3000 positioning
system probably won’t be able to help you.
But if progress for you primarily means improving cost-effectiveness while retaining
current levels of performance and functionality, then LTi has just the right solution
for you. Our CDE and CDB position controllers offer identical functionality in two design
variants for your positioning applications. The CDE is optimized for interaction with
synchronous servomotors. The CDB is best suited to the control of asynchronous gear
motors. and we have fitted both units with exactly the features you need for your appli-
cations. CDE and CDB – two positioning experts to aid cost-cutting on your
machine or line.

If you’re worried that cost consciousness in
system design leads to penny-pinching function-
ality, we can assure you it doesn’t. This document
demonstrates the surprising breadth of function-
ality we are able to offer based on state-of-the-
art component and manufacturing technology,
without stretching those tight cost limits.
It would not have been enough simply to con-
centrate on the componentry in our efforts to
optimize costs. you can of course also expect to
receive our usual standards of sound, targeted
advice, expert support in commissioning, an
advanced, needs-oriented order and delivery
logistics system, outstanding service and diag-
nostic capability and, not least, top product
quality. But that is doubtless no surprise to you.
after all, CDE and CDB are members of the
successful c-line Drives series from LTi.

We have become accustomed to regular innovations in drive controllers in recent years. But what about
servomotors? The answer is surprising!
Would you have thought that the power density of good servomotors with ndFeB magnets could have
been substantially enhanced any more? The latest winding technologies have made it possible:
30 to 70 % more power density, at a much lower price, and with an up to 100 % improvement in
dynamics.
moreover, the soundly-based design and manufacturing technology underlying the new LSH generation
of servomotors ensures maximum operational reliability.
The CDE/CDB drive controllers
are available in power classes
from 375 W/2 A up to
110 kW/210 A. You can also
select from a wide range of
innovative synchronous and
asynchronous gear motors.
So cut your costs further by
employing a complete system
solution from LTi.

Safety Solution

Thanks to their integrated STO (Safe Torque Off) functionality, c-line
drive controllers open the door to all the other safety functions in line
with En 61800-5-2. Disconnecting the power stage with STO is the
fall-back solution, and as such provides the foundation for all other
safe monitoring functions (SS1, SS2, SOS, SLS, SLI, SDI, SLP etc.).
The STO certification up to SIL 3/PL e means applications involving the
highest safety demands can be implemented.
Depending on the safety requirements of the respective axes, the STO
functionality can be configured directly by safety switching elements
or, for more complex safety requirements, by external safety controls.
This means the c-line drive controller solution is flexible for any use,
and will provide you with optimal support in implementing your safety
application.
The Duo SmC safety control and the drive controllers of the c-line
series enable you to implement your machine safety concept. Thanks
to the wide performance range of our modular SmC series, with
monitoring of up to two drive axes, 58 safe inputs and the inter-
face to a control system, we can implement even the most complex
machine.
Combining simple system configuration, high flexibility based on the
programmable safety control and the high safety level of the SmC,
with the drive controllers of the c-line series, you can put together
the ideal solution for your machine safety needs. In conjunction with
the c-line drive controllers (2.1 - 250 a) from LTi, with integrated STO,
you are provided with a self-contained, fully unified safety system.
The drive controllers of the c-line form an unbeatable team in con-
junction with the SmC (Safe monitoring Control) series. Based on the
high safety level of the integrated STO functionality on the one hand
and the programmable SmC solution on the other, safe monitoring
functions meeting the highest demands can be implemented. By
monitoring the encoder signals, the safety control knows the position
of the motor at all times and is able to react safely to faults in kee-
ping with the programmed solution. The I/O modules provided on the
user interface enable complex peripherals such as light grids, pressure
mats, mode selector switches, emergency stops and the like to be
logically linked in a simple way.
The encoder signal tapping directly upstream of the interface on the
drive controller means the system can be easily retrofitted into exi-
sting machinery without affecting the established machine concept.
Ready made-up plug-in cables enable the encoder signal to be easily
split.
Whether SinCos encoders, resolvers or other encoder systems, the
wide variety of usable encoder interfaces means innovative encoder
solutions matching any application can be implemented. With c-line,
SmC, the Safe PLC user interface and the appropriate accessories,
you are provided with the complete safety package all from a single
source.

We live in an age when increasing potential productivity has become
one of the most important tasks in all sectors of industry. The associ-
ated increasingly stringent requirements for precision and dynamics
need to be continuously met, while also handling a growing range of
variants in production processes. There is an equally growing demand
for modular machines and systems, all of this against a background
of meeting the latest safety requirements.
These trends mean that machine manufacturers are faced with the
challenge of managing increasing levels of complexity in their pro-
ducts. as a result, modular systems with standardized interfaces are
gaining in importance all the time. Here, the key challenge is in deve-
loping and adapting the complex interfaces between the different
components that make up the auto mation solution.
Below, you can discover how the modular motionOne automation
system combines five components into a unified overall solution.
With motionControl, Drives, HmI Panel, Safety and User Tools, you
have everything you need for your automation tasks. Find out for
yourself how easy a system with standardized interfaces can be to
use.
In addition to the ServoOne and c-line Drives drive controller series,
the SmC safety controllers from LTi are also available as system com-
ponents that can be integrated into the automation solution with no
problems and without the need for specialist knowledge.
Even getting started in the new world of automation is easy: a setup
program installs all necessary tools and device descriptions for the
system components. There is no need for the usual complicated con-
nection of components as the EtherCaT or Canopen interfaces are
configured automatically.
Of course, the drive system includes a wide range of motors, from a
standard servomotor through to direct and linear motors. additional
support for all standard sensor systems allows you to optimize the
project planning for your drive task.
Simple handling starts with installation and ends with support and
service – with LTi you can depend on a comprehensive package of
services in these key areas.
The motionCenter tool suite is available for machine automation.
motionCenter combines all tasks in project planning, configuration,
IEC programming and creation of visualization applications.
It is based on the market standard CoDeSys to reduce orientation
time to a minimum.
as well as a sophisticated runtime system, standardized movement
functions are essential for motion solutions. The system provides the-
se in the form of PLCopen-based libraries, known as mFBs - motion
Function Blocks.
Single- and multi-axis movement functions control the ServoOne and
c-line Drives drive controller ranges.
