Dear Parents

I am sure that you will be as delighted as I am that Rosie Trevains,

who has been manning the Office for much of this term, has accept-

ed the full-time position of School Administrator. She will continue

part time until after half term but I know we have all appreciated her

cheerful manner and efficiency.

As a school we must take every health precaution and although this

seems a little unlikely to affect us, I should be grateful if you would

let me know if you—or anybody who lives with you— has visited Chi-

na. We have precautions in place should the country be hit by Novel

Coronavirus, and we have taken advice from the ISA and the Board-

ing Schools Association but, most important for us, is to know if

there is a chance that we might need to take precautions.

Wit so much unpredictable weather around at the moment, it would

be most helpful if you could check to see whether your child has

brought an extra coat home. Several coats are missing and the chil-

dren really need them to make the most of every opportunity to get

outside.

With best wishes

Hilary Mann

PRE-PREP NEWS

Pre-prep are looking forward to a visit by Jamie’s Mum, Mrs Cochrane. She has

offered to come in with Jamie’s pet rats on Wednesday 29th January. She may

also bring in a baby snake. She is a vet and the children in Pre-prep will be given

the chance to meet the rats and listen to Mrs Cochrane talk about them. It will

be very informative and a great experience for the children.

I know that Jamie is very excited about it and we are sure the children will enjoy

the visit.

Thank you so much Mrs Cochrane for giving up tour time to do this for us.

LENT SPORTS NEWS

Well done to our 7 runners who travelled to Haldon Forest Park, Exeter to com-

pete in the South West ISA trials. The weather was dry but the course was ra-

ther challenging due to poor visibility. All our competitors were stars on the

course and pushed themselves hard from beginning to end. Our top finishers on

the day were:

Pippa Alford 11th in the Y5/6 girls race

Daisy Hassell 2nd in the Y7/8 girls race

Daisy has qualified for the SW u14 girls team and we wish her luck for the ISA

Finals at Worksop College on Friday 20 March.

ISA netball Tournament

Polwhele yr 6,7 and 8 girls travelled to Trinity school for an ISA netball tourniment. Poppy Ste-

venson, Yasmine Lewis,Daisy Hassell, Jessica Pearce, Emily Cochrane, Gwenner Wood and

Elizabeth Headon all played incredibly well as we were against teams of year 8. Firstly we

played against Trinity. The results were 5-6 with a win to Trinity. Elizabeth scored 4 and Emily

scored 1. Daisy Hassell was player of the match. Next we played Kingsley- a tough team.

Elizabeth scored 3 and was player of the match and that left Kingsley with the win of 6 goals.

Finally we played St Joseph’s. And although the Polwhelers were tired, as we had no subsi-

tutes, we powered through and ended with the score 5-3 to St Josephs. Even though we did

not win our efforts and determination and overall netball skills were outstanding!

NEWS

We’ve been lucky to have a mild week of weather finally, with some lovely crisp

Winter mornings and lots of sunshine—perfect weather for hacking and enjoy-

ing our tranquil grounds.

On Monday all of the ponies had their teeth checked and rasped, and we were

lucky that most of them behaved very well and didn’t require sedation. Some

were not very keen to begin with, and surprisingly, Polly (usually the calmest of

patients) was particularly affronted, and showed her unwillingness by rearing in

defiance !
