The Peninsula Academy Programs at The Peninsula Tokyo
Originally introduced at The Peninsula Hong Kong in 1997 to give guests an insight into Hong
Kong's unique melding of Eastern culture and Western style, the highly popular program has now
been expanded to incorporate the group’s nine hotels in Asia and the USA.
The Peninsula Academy learning and activity program was created to give guests a personalized
introduction to key aspects of each Peninsula location’s culture, history, heritage, lifestyle, cuisine,
arts and so much more, through individualized classes, tours and activities, all presented from a
local perspective.
Younger guests are not forgotten either, with the introduction of a new Kids’ Academy to give a fun
insight into the various Peninsula destinations.
Available at The Peninsula Tokyo, staying guests may reserve these unique cultural programs 48-
hours in advance with the Concierge subject to availability. All prices are in Japanese Yen, inclusive
of tax and are subject to a 10% service charge. Prices are subject to change without notice.
The Imperial Palace Tour
Conducted by the Imperial Household Agency, participants take a weekday public morning tour of
the Imperial Palace grounds on the former site of Edo Castle used to be occupied by the Tokugawa
Shogunate. Chauffeured in The Peninsula’s customized Rolls-Royce or BMW, and accompanied by
a hotel escort, participants arrive at the Kikyo-mon Gate for the two-kilometer (1.2 m), 75-minute
official excursion that introduces centuries-old stone castle keeps and various ceremonial halls used
by the Imperial Family today. Participants learn about some of the history behind the Imperial
Palace, its gardens, and the modern-revivalist buildings used today by the Imperial Family for state
visits and other ceremonies. The public tour does not include viewings of building interiors.
Afterwards, participants return to the hotel to enjoy a lunch of refined Japanese cuisine at Kyoto
Tsuruya serving Japanese kaiseki and tempura in a contemporary atmosphere.
