Well done to all the boys! We’ve still got a little way to go, but, let’s ensure we keep rocking up each day and transferring those soft skills that we learn on a daily basis into the classrooms, school-yard and beyond so that we can continue to build upon our successes to date. Welcome back to Term 2!

It was fantastic to see so many of our boys and the Ocean View school community returning on the first day

back this Term! We’ve seen some positive results in regards to attendance, a result of the hard work and

dedication from the Ocean View staff leading into the Term 1 holidays. Sending homework packs home,

making phone calls, conducting ‘Teams’ meetings and ‘checking-in’ with the students has ensured they felt,

and stayed connected to their community and school during the pandemic. The Clontarf staff continued to

engage the lads through there ‘Bingo Challenge’ and checking-in with families, resulting in a 75% overall

attendance for week 1.

We’re proud to publish our Term 2 newsletter, highlighting the positive achievements of our boys and the

team during the first five weeks of the Term. Enjoy!

Employment with our senior lads As mentioned last newsletter, two of our senior students were sucessful in securing casual work with our partner at Kmart, Adain H.V and Aiden W.

After completing their online and in-store training sessions, the lads are now undertaking a variety of roles within the store and enjoing the spoils of earning a wage!

We wish them every success as they work towards balancing their education and work. Well done lads!

Morning Trainings recommence! With the recommencement of training in the last few weeks, the Ocean View College Clontarf Foundation wasted no time in donning their kits and fronting up to training.

This term has seen the boys undertake a variety of activities including basketball, a fitness session and mini-games…. All while attempting to keep a socially acceptable distance!

A big thank you must go to Mr Lawrence Fantus for assisting us with one of our training sessions this term. The lads were put through their paces, maxing out their heart rates and challenging themselves to a ‘pyramid’ of activities. We hope you enjoyed joining the lads for training and the breakfast that followed?!

Young Kobe C (Year 7) stated “That training session with Mr Fantus was awesome. We got to do lots of different activities including skipping, jumping onto the box and free throws. I can’t wait for the next challenge!”

Over the coming weeks, the lads will continue to take part in morning trainings… We encourage any of the Ocean View College staff or Clontarf Partners to get along to

either the Tuesday or Thursday session and join the lads for a heap of fun and fitness. Give either Wayne or myself a call or email if you would like any further details. We look forward to seeing you out there!

Finally, to our boys….

Getting up early to attend trainings is no easy feat, well done! Keep putting in the hard yards and remember, the more good habits you keep now, the easier they will be to keep later!

Supporting our students during ‘Contact Time’ This term has seen The Clontarf Foundation introduced ‘Contact Time’ with our members. It’s a chance for our boys to catch up on any outstanding work and support them with their education.

During this time we have seen our Middle Years boys undertaking spelling tests, science reports and practicing their public speaking.

Our senior members will be looking towards undertaking a Financial Literacy course in weeks 8 & 9, a site visit to Bunnings and mock interviews and public speaking sessions.

During this time with the boys we’ve also undertaken cooking lessons and learnt a little bit more about what the Clontarf Foundation is all about, through unpacking our ‘Pillars’ and brainstorming what it means to be a Clontarf member.

Over the course of the next 5 weeks our junior members will continue to unpack these pillars and work towards building stronger relationships with their teachers and the Ocean View College staff. Our big ticket item this term is working with an Indigenous artist to undertake a project with the Port Adelaide Enfield Council called ‘Paint Ya Pole’. The project consists of our students working collaboratively to design, and then paint, stobie poles in the local area.

Finally, on Friday of week 8, we will be working in partnership with the local Environmental Project Officer Craig Hughes in a community project to replant some of the sand dunes on the local foreshore. We have had a few of our boys put their hands up to help with is always a positive sign. Let’s just hope the weather is kind on the day!

Afternoon Activities We have been lucky enough to continue our afternoon activities this

term, with the lads eager to come in and have some fun after school!

Uno challenges and chicken wings proved to be a big hit with the

lads, with most asking for ‘Wicked Wing Wednesday’ the following

week.

Last term we began making boomerangs with our woodwork

teacher, Mr Pink. We’re extremely grateful that he again offered up

an hour after school to help the lads finish them off recently. We’re

unsure if he hung around to help, or eat the home-made chicken burgers whipped up by

resident chief, Wayne Buckskin! Either way, Thanks Mr

Pink! The coming weeks will see the lads engage in

health talks, soccer clinics, well-being walks and food to

feed the soul.

We continue to work towards engaging our lads, whilst

encompassing our pillars, Education, Well-Being,

Partners, Sport, Leadership and Employment.

From the Director….. Back on track

During the first few weeks of this term it has been pleasing to see the majority of our lads returning to

school to undertake their education. With COVID-19 restrictions slowly easing, we hope to undertake our

contact footy and basketball trainings, camps and excursions at the beginning of term 3. Planning

community activities and inviting guests into the Academy Room has proven to be a hit with the lads, and

we can’t wait to see what eventuates with our ‘Paint Ya Pole’ and tree planting community activities.

Finally, thanks again to all those that support our boys and the Clontarf Foundation here at Ocean View

College. Without you, we are unable to undertake the work we do within this community.
