PURPOSE

The PARTHENOS project empowers digital research in the fields of History,

Language Studies, Cultural Heritage, Archaeology, and related fields across

the (Digital) Humanities. It provides a thematic cluster of European Research

Infrastructures (CLARIN and DARIAH), integrating initiatives (infrastructure

projects), e-infrastructures and similar world-class infrastructures, and builds

bridges between different, tightly interrelated fields.

… supports the work of the two main research infrastructures,

CLARIN (language resources) and DARIAH (digital humanities), as well

as various integration projects addressing cultural domains, such as

ARIADNE, CENDARI and EHRI.

By working together, PARTHENOS will:

• develop common standards to ease exploitation;

• coordinate joint activities among research projects;

• harmonize policy definition and implementation;

• pool methods and services;

• and share solutions to the same problems.

WHY PARTHENOS?

Digital technologies have led to the creation of large digital archives, and to a variety of innovative research methodologies applicable to these archives. PARTHENOS works towards integrating these archives and new methods to support digital research.

Results WP3 (Common policies)

The PARTHENOS Guidelines• A comprehensive set of PARTHENOS Guidelines to FAIRify data management and

make data reusable is focusing on the topic of common policies. This compact guide

offers twenty guidelines to align the efforts of data producers, data archivists and

data users in humanities and social sciences to make research data as reusable as

possible based upon the FAIR Principles. Each guideline has recommendations for

both researchers and archives as it is recognised that different priorities may apply

to each case.

The Policy Wizard• The Policy Wizard is a tool which helps researchers to discover which data policy

applies best to their particular data. It allows the user to select an area of interest,

for example History, and find a range of policies suggesting how data should be

collected, processed, stored and shared with other researchers.

Results WP4 (Standardization)

The Standardization Survival Kit (SSK)

• The Standardization Survival Kit (SSK) is designed to support researchers in selecting and using the appropriate standards for their particular disciplines and work flows.

• It is an online tool which focuses on giving researchers access to standards in a meaningful way by using research scenarios which cover all the domains of the Humanities, from literature to heritage science, including history, social sciences, linguistics, etc.

• An online environment that integrates cloud storage with services

and tools and support collaborative working throughout the

research data lifecycle, promoting sharing, reuse and

sustainability within the Humanities.

Results WP8 (Dissemination and International ciollaboration)

The HUB• The PARTHENOS Hub is envisioned as an open accessible publication and interaction

platform for the humanities research communities. It experiments with combining

the traditional format of publishing in journals with the more dynamic, interactive

new media (such as blogs, internet forums and social networks). The Hub consists of

different issues, each dedicated to a specific topic.

International collaboration• One of the main objectives of PARTHENOS is to enhance collaboration and to cluster

initiatives. Therefore from the start of the project, one task has been dedicated at

coordinating and pooling existing liaisons and proposing joint plans for fostering

these connections.

Concluding remarks

• The PARTHENOS project is almost over as a project, but it has left us with a very valuable heritage, which will be adopted and further developed by the Research Infrastructures that were the main stakeholders in the project
