What religion are you ?
You might say Catholic, Roman Catholic or Catholic Christian. But it is so much more than that. It should be a defining state-ment. Being Catholic is not what we are, it is who we are!
Being Catholic is belonging to the very church that Jesus Christ himself established on earth. Do we know what that really means?
There is a fullness to our Catholic Faith that we can understand so much better now than when we were children. It makes so much more sense through the lens of adult-hood. Questions: Contact - Cheryl Avery 973-702-1342
This journey of faith starts with a book by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, “ The One Thing is Three”.
Grace and the Divine Virtues As Christians, we believe that we are able to respond to God’s desire for us through the gifts of grace and the Di-vine gifts of Faith, Hope and Charity. In these gatherings through Advent, we will explore the gift of God’s abiding grace in our lives and grace’s enabling empowerment to accept and share God’s Divine Gifts. In this Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis asks us each to ponder mercy, yet
another gift from our loving God. Come join us for these special mornings of prayer,
reflection and sharing. - Laura Curcione , Presenter. Monday Mornings of Advent - 10:00AM - 11:30 AM

Prayers for the Sick and Dying
The Divine Mercy Chaplet is one of the best means of assisting the dying. Jesus revealed the power of this prayer to St. Fausti-na. The Lord gave many promises regarding recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet for the sick and or dying. There are parishioners who regularly pray the chaplet. We are currently forming a prayer chain and accepting prayer requests. If you are interested in joining the prayer chain, please contact Bea Harrigan at (973) 827-0083. If you have a special prayer request for a loved one who is sick and dying, you may call Bea Har-rigan, Cheryl Avery at (973) 702-1342, or Denise Drogo at (973) 875-6863.

REMEMBERING THE DECEASED
Down through the ages, Christian communities have honored and remembered their dead. We see their names on the walls and windows of churches and on grave markers in cemeteries. We read their names in prayers of intercession and recall their anniversaries. Especially during the month of November - with its solemnity of All Saints and commemoration of All Souls - Catholics both remember the dead and prepare for their own death. We have another opportunity to remember those who have died. Our “Book of the Names of the Dead” will be in the back of church.
Parishioners are invited to enter the names of family members who have died since this time last year. The book will be left out for the month of November. All those who have been remembered will be prayed for during the intercessions at our liturgies during November.
REMEMBERING THE “EVERYDAY SAINTS”
All Saints Day, November 1, and All Souls Day Novem-ber 2, are two excellent opportunities to celebrate the lives of those “everyday” saints in your life, such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc. Pull out family photo albums and videos. Invite your family to reminisce and share stories about the lives of those close to you who have passed away. Visit the cemetery where your loved ones are buried. Take a moment to pray and remember the person’s life and what he or she meant to you.
WE REMEMBER THEM In the rising of the sun and in its going down
WE REMEMBER THEM in the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter
WE REMEMBER THEM in the opening of buds
and in the warmth of summer WE REMEMBER THEM
when we are lost and sick of heart
WE REMEMBER THEM when we have joys we yearn to share
WE REMEMBER THEM so long as we live, they too shall live
for they are now a part of us AS WE REMEMBER THEM.
What happens to the Soul/Spirit when the physical body dies?
Soul signifies the “Spiritual principle in humanity.” Because the
Greeks often emphasized that the soul needed to escape the
body, we often have tendency to “prefer” the soul to the body.
However, this is not Catholic theology. The body is nothing
without the soul and the body gives animation to the soul. They
work in consort throughout human life. We care for our bodies
respectfully.
The soul is immortal. It is the essential part of the humans body
that likens us to God’s image. It does separate from the body
at death but will also reunite with the body at the final resurrec-
tion. - Mike Hayes Website: bustedhalo.com
