Dear Parishioners:

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He demonstrated that his boundless love would be as true and constant when he was away as when he was present. The theme of enduring love which threads its way through the fabric of our Gospel can also be applied to the annual cele-bration of Mother’s Day because the affection of a mother for her children is perhaps our best analogy of God’s love for us. It can endure many dark days or even years of neglect, pain and confusion and still be ready to take back the erring one. During this Year of Mercy we can easily understand why we use the term “Holy Mother Church.”

Several years ago author Erma Bombeck wrote a column about God making the very first mother, which I will summarize. He gave her fascinating eyes to see through closed doors and know what the kids are doing before she asks. Those same gentle eyes can talk to a child who fails, saying: “I understand and I love you.” God was fashioning her beau-tifully soft but very tough, when a curious an-gel, watching the creation, ran his finger across her face and said, “Oh, there is a leak here.” God quickly explained that it was not a leak but a tear. The angel asked the meaning of a tear and God said it stood for “joy, sadness, disap-pointment, pain , loneliness and pride in her family.” The angel smiled and told God He was a real genius to place a tear on her face. God looked puzzled and replied, “But I didn’t put it there!”

Every mother’s cheeks have had their share of tears. God didn’t put them there, but he knows why they are there and so do we. Thanks to them it is so much easier for us to believe in the unconditional love of our heavenly Father.

Love and Prayers, Bro. John

Juan

The Rite of the sacrament of confir-mation will be celebrated at St

Francis of Assisi Church on Friday, may 20 at 7:00pm by Bishop John W. Flesey.

All are welcome to attend. Confirmation, together with Baptism and Eucharist, form

the Sacraments of Initiation that are all intimately connect-ed. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strength-

ened for service to the Body of Christ. Confirmation enriches the baptized with the strength of the Holy Spirit so that they can better witness to Christ in word

and deed (Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC], no. 1285)

(RV).- “Paz a ustedes.
