My Dear Fellow Olympians,

As our Charter Presen-

tation and Induction

Ceremonies draw near,

I would like to go

down memory lane

and revisit the very

foundation of Rotary Club of Makati

Olympia.

It has been often said that RCMO’s founders

dreamt of a Rotary Club whose culture will

be based on the basic tenets of Rotary sans

the glamour that many non-members

attribute the organization to be. The

Founders had this vision of making Rotary

accessible to all professions reflective of the

community – at least that of Barangay

Olympia, Makati, its anchor community. Of

our 54 charter members, we have 49

classifications.

RCMO aspires to establish a culture of being

a club where we execute projects using our

various lines of expertise in order to serve.

This is the reason why parallel to the weekly

meetings and fellowships, we also undertake

weekly service activities with our sponsored

Rotaractors and Interactors. Thus, our

strength as a club lies in our collective regard

of each other and hands-on participation in

our endeavors for our beneficiaries.

Ten days before our big day on October 16, it

is my hope as Charter President, that all of

us who have signified to be part of this club

are of the same conviction as the founders.

Now, more than ever we should examine

ourselves for our commitment. The journey

will be most fulfilling when we share the

same belief and are in sync with each other.

PREPARATIONS FOR CHARTER

PRESENTATION

It’s all systems go for the preparations for

the RCMO’s Charter Presentation and

Induction Ceremonies on October 16, 2010.

As it is a once in a lifetime event for the

club, the committee has buckled down to

work to make it a most memorable one.

President Nominee and Charter Secretary

Jay Bataclan is the over-all chair for said

event. Through Dir. Ju Abdulcadir, the

Rotaractors and Interactors are also on

board the preparations.

Venue has been arranged at the AIM

Conference Center by PP Ting Almendral. CP

Rose Acoba is in charge of the program while

the Rotaractors and Interactors with Dir. Ju

will take care of logistics and the venue

preparations.

RCMO believes in starting everything right.

With the amount of work and the efforts

given by all the members involved in the

preparations, it looks forward to having a

most organized event befitting the occasion.

It also hopes to afford all its new members

the opportunity to meet their fellow

Rotarians in the District in an atmosphere of

fun and camaraderie.

Go! Olympia, Go!

Classification principle

By assigning each member a classification

based on his or her business or profession,

this system ensures that the club’s

membership reflects the business and

professional composition of its community.

The number of members holding a particular

classification is limited according to the size

of the club. The goal is professional

diversity, which enlivens the club’s social

atmosphere and provides a rich resource of

occupational expertise to carry out service projects and provide club leadership.

My Teacher, My Hero

“Teachers open windows to the world for their students

by giving them the tools and desire to discover their

fellow humans. It is through this discovery that we learn

one of the most important lessons in life — we have more

in common than we have differences.

— Alan Mulally, President & CEO, Ford Motor Company

Literacy for all citizens of the world is one of

RCMO’s Advocacies. Teachers Enhancement helps

in achieving this.

FELLOWSHIP WITH RC MALATE PRIME

Excitement was in the air. For the first time, Rotary Club

of Makati Olympia will be meeting Rotary Club of Malate

Prime, its prospective matched club in District 3810, its

first in said district. The meeting was made possible by RC

Malate Prime’s PE Kyo Lee who is the son of a Korean

friend of one of the past presidents of RC Namyang Korea,

RCMO’s foreign Matched Club.

CP Rose Acoba, accompanied by Dir. Ju Abdulcadir, Chair

Roger Alejo and DIR Miguel Bermido of IAC Makati

Olympia, Rotaractors Diory Bermido and Mhean Beriguel,

proceeded to Inggo Grill at the Bay Area for the Fellowship.

They were warmly welcomed by their hosts.

Entertainment was provided by Appetite band owned and

managed by a member of RC Malate Prime. After the

sumptuous dinner, parlor games were played where the

RCMO delegates actively participated on.

RC Malate Prime is headed by Pres. Anne Quiza. It is the

home club of District 3810 Governor Tranquil Salvador.

Formal Matched club signing will be done on October 16,

TRUSTEEE CHAIR’S

MESSAGE: October is

Vocational Service Month

Rotary International News -- 23 September 2010

October 2010

Success in a vocation means giving –

of time, expertise, and money

People join Rotary clubs as proud representatives of

their businesses or professions. Hence, all club

members have an obligation to represent their

vocations to fellow Rotarians and exemplify the spirit

of Rotary in the workplace.

People who are successful in their vocations are often

well organized, not only in their professions but also

in their private lives. Therefore, they are also well

organized in their giving. They understand that if The

Rotary Foundation runs a special fundraising

challenge to match the generous donations from the

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, giving to the

Annual Programs Fund remains as important as ever,

as this is the core part of The Rotary Foundation’s

financial operations. Equally important are donations

to the Permanent Fund and Rotary Centers Major

Gifts Initiative. The giving to the challenge must be

over and above the normal and regular annual giving,

and fortunately many Rotarians understand this.

Donations, however, are not necessarily money only.

Many, many Rotarians give of their free time and of

their expertise, which so often is a result of success in

their vocation. Numerous are the doctors and nurses

who help sick children, numerous are the engineers

who help drill wells, numerous are the teachers who

help in schools – just to mention a few.

And the practice goes back to the various vocations

where it all began in 1905 – a handful of gentlemen

of different vocations who came together to help

others. That was the beginning of what is now

Building Communities – Bridging Continents through

Service Above Self.
