Hon. Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis

Parliamentary Secretary for

Competitiveness and Economic Growth

The Hon. Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis was born

on the 21st June 1973 in Mtarfa, Rabat, Malta.

He graduated in BA European Studies and

International relations and subsequently

obtained a Doctorate of Laws. Until recently, he was as a lawyer by profession,

specialising in litigation in the civil, commercial, constitutional, liable law and the

human rights sphere.

In the 2013 General elections held on the 9th March, the Hon. Dr. Edward Zammit

Lewis was successfully elected on the 8 Electoral District and was chosen by the Prime

Minister Dr. Joseph Muscat to form part of his cabinet and appointed him a

Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness and Economic Growth.

Mr Ruben Caruana

Segment Manager, Microsoft Malta

Ruben has 15 years of experience in the IT

industry. Having a solid technical background,

he started off his career responsible for ICT

Infrastructure design and managing ICT

projects. Over the past 6 years Ruben moved

from a technical role to business development & sales role, building experience in

developing and successfully closing complex IT products and solution and

infrastructure sales processes, with a broad range of large organizations in various

industries, both in Malta and throughout the Mediterranean. Ruben is now working at

Microsoft Malta and main focus is business management of Microsoft’s Enterprise

Segment including Public Sector, Communications Sector, Commercial Sector and

Education.

Ms Tamsin Anastasi-Pace

Global Sales Development Manager for

Economist Digital

Tamsin Anastasi-Pace is the Global Sales

Development Manager for Economist Digital.

With a track record in delivering new digital

products to market, she was recruited to lead

on growing advertising and sponsorship revenue for The Economist Digital Editions.

Tamsin joined The Economist Group in 2010 to support the launch of The Economist

apps, and has been instrumental in developing the global commercial strategy for

advertising across digital platforms.

Previously, Tamsin was Publisher Services Manager for AOL, leading a team which

delivered publisher-focused solutions, directly growing revenues for Advertising.com

and AOL’s other networks. She then went on to launch AOL Sponsored Listings into

the UK market. Earlier in her career, Tamsin spent 3 years at Miller Distributors in

Malta building their Academic and Professional Books division.

Ben is Co-Founder and CCO of MoPowered

which has raised c £6m to capitalise on the

rapid growth in m-commerce. Offering a SaaS

platform to retailers of any size, we provide a

comprehensive range of m-commerce

solutions centred on transactional websites and native applications.

MoPowered’s solutions generate value for clients by allowing them to increase

revenue and engage with their customers via smartphones and tablets. MoPowered

has 60 clients ranging from enterprise retailers like Next plc to mid-tier retailers like

Waterstones.

Andrew is a practicing lawyer who acts as CSB

Group Director - Legal & Regulatory, providing

legal assistance in the areas of his expertise -

law, vessel registration and finance and immovable property law - further

Ing. Antoine Sciberras

Corporate Services Manager - Melita plc

Ing. Antoine Sciberras has over 13 years’

experience in the telecommunications industry

and specialises in the design and commercial-

isation of bespoke telecommunications

solutions for the enterprise market.

In his business technology advisory role at Melita he is responsible for the commercial

development of enterprise-grade solutions. In his previous roles he was involved in

the engineering aspect of telecom infrastructure and played an integral part in the

setup of Melita Mobile. He also held key positions at Vodafone Malta with

responsibilities for network quality and programme management.

Antoine is currently a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta covering programs

related to computer networks. He holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with first

class honours from the University of Malta and a Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering

Management from Brunel University, London.

Mr John Pace

Executive Head Cards Business,

Electronic Banking Unit at Bank of

Valletta

John Pace has over 35 years of banking

experience acquired through the different

postings and roles he occupied within various

units of Bank of Valletta.

John has been involved in electronic payments for a number of years through his

posting both at BOVI as well as Financial Markets & Investments and has also

acquired in-depth knowledge of cards business through his postings at Cards

Business.

Today, John is the Executive Head of Cards Business within the Bank’s Electronic

Banking Services Unit where apart from being responsible for the Issuing side of the

business, he also heads the acquiring section which is composed of ePOS merchants

as well as local and international ecommerce merchants.

Mr Kristoff Zammit Ciantar

Founding Director of InFusion Solutions

Ltd.

Kristoff Zammit Ciantar, has been working in IT

for the past 14 years. A Business Analyst by

profession, Kristoff has years of experience in

bridging the gap between the business

requirements and the technical deliverables.

Recently, Kristoff together with his team ventured on the launch of Cabinet - an

Online Document Management System used in the UK, Italy and Malta.

Kristoff was also based in the UK for 8 years providing services to COMPANIES such as

Safeway, Leicester City Council, HMRC, British Telecom, NHS, Novacroft, Wyeth

Pharmaceuticals, Sungard Vivista, Toyota and Torex Retail. He holds a B.Sc. Business &

Computing degree specialising in Human Computer Interface (HCI) studies. Such

studies led to Kristoff's specialisation in User Interfaces for web and IT solutions.

Mr Antoine Vella

Executive E-commerce at Air Malta

Having worked with different airlines, both

locally and abroad for the past 17 years,

Antoine has acquired ample experience in

airline commercial activities, especially in the e-

Commerce field. He has been heavily involved

strategically and technically in four major online booking engine releases for multiple

airlines. Apart from this he is experienced in e-Marketing, Reservation systems,

Payment gateways, Ancillary Revenue and Automation of airline business.

Antoine is Prince 2 certified and has worked as a Senior Business Analysts with a major

technology supplier in the airline industry. He is currently responsible for all the direct

sales channels used by Air Malta.

Ms Mariana Gospodinova

Director and Head of Payments at

Syspay

Having started her career at Skrill, Mariana has

more than 8 years of lead role experience in

the payments services domain with a focus on

wallet product functionality, online payments

and alternative banking projects and initiatives. Currently Mariana is heading the

Payments Function at Syspay Limited, focusing on delivering a one-stop-shop cloud

based solution for all SMEs, including a suite of services and solutions (financial,

marketing, operational) for stores, web shops and traders.

Mr Alex Grech

Business strategist, Change agent and

Academic

Alex Grech is a business strategist, change

agent and academic. After qualifying as a

Chartered Accountant from the London School

of Accountancy, Alex held senior management

positions within the European HQs of Reuters and Hitachi Data Systems. Over a 10-

year period, Alex gained significant change management experience in technology

and cross-border projects in Europe and the USA.

Over the past 13 years, Alex has advised CEOs, CIOs and senior managers in

multinationals, public organisations, corporates and start-ups primarily in the ICT,

Telecoms, Education, Tourism & Culture sectors. Alex was also the founding Chairman

of Heritage Malta and has recently worked on Valletta’s bid for the European Capital

of Culture in 2018. Alex has a PhD from the University of Hull and is a visiting lecturer

on digital marketing at the University of Malta.

Mr Reuben Abela

Innovation & E-Business Specialist

Reuben Abela is an Innovation and eBusiness

specialist, holding an MSc in Business

Innovation and eBusiness from the Univeristy

of London and a B.Com (Hons) in Public Policy

and Management. His recent thesis on the

application of eBusiness solutions for SMEs has been included in the Univeristy of

London's library best thesis section.

Reuben currently works for Betclic Everest Group in London where he is responsible

for the retention activities of over 1million customers across three different brand

websites. He also provides consultancy to start-ups, micro and small businesses on

business modelling for the online world.

Prior to his current role he spent five months at Google Campus in London working

side-by-side with a number of technology start-ups. Reuben has also worked for the

Malta Communications Authority where amongst other roles he was responsible for

the coordination of eBusiness projects under the Information Society unit.

Carlo Donzella has almost 30 years of

experience in Digital Technologies, R&D and

roles with many public agencies and private enterprises. He’s co-founder and CEO of

the Maltese startup MediaKIS Ltd, that has developed an online marketplace for

digital media.

Carlo is a sought-after speaker, moderator, coach and content organizer, in

international conferences on ICT & Media. In the last couple of years he has been a

Mr Reuben Buttigieg

Chairman at MIM Training and

Development Limited - President at the

Malta Institute of Management

Mr. Reuben Buttigieg is Chairman of MIM

Training and Development Limited, the

training arm of the Malta Institute of

Management. The company represents amongst others Edinburgh Business School

and the University of Birmingham. Until recently Mr. Buttigieg was Hon Treasurer of

the Malta Institute of Management and acted as a Membership Services Committee

Chairman. He currently chairs the Investments Committee of the Institute. He has

been a council member for the last 8 years.

Besides also being the Manager and Founder of ERREMME, Mr. Buttigieg has been

the pioneer in the discussions on Islamic Finance in Malta and has prepared various

papers and articles on the subject. He is a regular speaker in International Islamic

Finance conferences. Acts as consultant on various Islamic Finance transactions in

Malta and abroad and is also the first Islamic Finance Advisor in Malta.

Mr Calvin Bartolo

Calvin Bartolo is an Accountant with extensive

work experience in the banking and insurance

industries. Calvin is the co-founder of

www.blackdigits.com.mt, a community-based

website which provides analytical tools and

comprehensive data on the local listed market. He closely follows the local and

international financial markets, reads the latest financial literature and actively

participates in foreign exchange and equity markets.

Calvin is also Managing Partner of Global Music, an internationally focused recording

studio and production house.Calvin holds a Bachelor's degree in Accountancy and a

Diploma in Banking & Finance, together with post graduate certificates in Auditing

and Financial reporting from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Wesley Ellul has been an Internet entrepreneur

for a little over 8 years, having founded some

of Malta's most successful E-businesses, such

as Findit.com.mt, Ticketline.com.mt,

whatson.com.mt, winit.com.mt, 101malta.com,

101dublin.com, quoteme.com.mt, maltapass.com.mt and somethingdifferent.com.mt.

Coming from a background of a simple Internet user, Wesley tries to spot a need and

try to find the most user friendly way of solving it.

Five years ago Wesley co-founded Untangled Media, an internet media company

aimed at helping businesses make money online, through effective web development

techniques tied in with sure fire SEO strategies, leading to hundreds of ebusiness

success stories. Today Wesley leads the Untangled Media development department,

whose clients range from one man businesses to some of Malta's largest

organisations such as Malta International Airport, and the Malta Football Association.

Mr Paul Ellul

Managing Director Golden Gate Co Ltd.

Paul Ellul grew up in the family business,

having left school at 16, where he moved

around the company, gaining insight and

experience from each job he performed.

During that time, Paul left the family business

in order to acquire experience further afield, by working in the Maltese property

market.

Then, in 1993, together with his sister Tania Farrugia, assumed responsibility for

Golden Gate Co. Ltd. Together they transformed it into one of the market leaders in

Stationery and printing on the Maltese Islands.

When he is not at work, Paul is sailing, in all its diverse forms, be it cruising or racing.

Paul is married to Joanna Pace, and is enjoying the thrills of raising an 8 year-old

daugter, Alexia.

Francesca is an IT, retail and online industry

veteran with over 20 years of experience,

starting off at Deloitte and Touché IT

Consultants managing one of the largest IT Training Centres on the island at the time.

Her broad experience covers retailing, marketing, administration, back office & web

site operations and business strategy.

Since the beginning of 2011 Francesca has put together a team that have been

marketing and managing www.ooii.com.mt Malta’s largest online retail outlet,

creating a huge virtual store by aggregating local agents’ products and offering free

next day delivery services.

Francesca is one of the co-founders of Are You Being Served (RUBS) which provides a

forum on Facebook for consumer feedback and through its satellite pages; forums for

special interest groups like cooking, travel and property.
