OUR MISSION

Loving Christ • Sharing His GraceServing All

A little boy had a part in a Church School play and was supposed to quote the scripture from 1 Corinthians 13:13,

“Now abides faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love.”

When he stepped in front of the congregation and saw the huge crowd, he got confused. What he actually said was,

“Now abides faith, hope, and love, and the greatest disease is love.”

Love is a healthy disease. Jesus had an incurable case of it. He taught us that love is the distinguishing characteristic of being a Christian.

Love is a strange power. It is the only power that can’t force itself on others. And yet, when it is received, it changes everything. Our enemies become our friends. Our friends become our family. Love is the one power that grows as it is given away.

One of the greatest gifts of the church is the gift of love for all the world. When we love, especially those who are unloveable, we are the light of Christ in the midst of the darkness. When we come together as the body of Christ, the Church family, we experience the lavish gift of God’s love. And when we share that love with others outside of the Church, we receive even more love to give away.

On Sunday, February 15, we are going to experience Mission Fest. It will be a service like none that you have ever been to. It’s all about love. God loves us. We love Him. He helps us love each other. As we love each other, more love is given so that we might love those who are outside of the Roser family.

I hope that we will have such an outpouring of love that it will cause an epidemic of the greatest disease at Roser.

In His Love,

Dr. Bob

When Gustav Dore painted a picture of Christ, an admirer said, “You must love Him to paint Him so.”

”To which Dore replied, “I do love Him, but if I loved Him better, I would paint Him better.”

When we know Christ as the I AM, we begin to understand His love for us,

and are able to respond by loving Him more.

During Lent, Dr. O’Keef will present a series of sermons on the I AM statements of Christ.

We will come to understand that Christ loves us so much that He becomes like us, so that we might become like Him.

MISSION OF THE MONTHYOUTH FOR

CHRISTReaching the youth for Christ and expanding! In Manatee County YFC clubs meet at schools and youth centers. They have had such great success that they have expanded into South Hillsborough County.

Roser donates to the local Manatee County chapter of this organization. Manatee Youth for Christ is part of the international Youth for Christ organization and subscribes to its mission.

Every day at thousands of community centers, high schools, middle schools, juvenile institutions, coffee shops, and local hangouts, YFC staff and volunteers meet with young people who need Jesus.

They are rural and urban and are always about the message of Jesus. Their focus as a movement is on multiplying fruitful and sustainable Ministry Sites across the nation and around the world.

Manatee YFC is sponsoring its annual COMEDY CAFÉ fundraiser for adults, with comedian Mike Williams from February 19 through 24. Call 941-747-4608 for more information or to make reservations.

Manatee YFC depends on the involvement of caring adults to accomplish its mission—to reach local teens with the message that God loves them and has a plan for their lives. Volunteers are needed to serve directly with students, intercessors, financial partners, and help in the office. Wherever your gifts and talents lie, you can make an eternal difference in a young person’s life.

Sunday, February 15BLING is a women’s a cappella quartet that has placed 2nd in 2013 and 2014, and 1st in 2015 in the Sweet Adelines International Quartet Competition.

To add variety to the day we will also be entertained by the jazz piano music of

MIKE MARKAVERICH.Bling! Quartet is the 2015 Sweet Adelines International Champion Quartet! This a cappella journey began in the summer of 2009 in SE Florida with four friends that love to ring those barbershop chords. Though barbershop is where their roots began, they enjoy singing many other styles of music from contempo-rary to jazz. In the last five years, Bling! has earned many titles including; 2010 Region 9 Champions and most im-proved quartet, 2011 International 8th place and novice quartet winners and 2012 International 7th place quartet. These ladies are enjoying an amaz-ing ride and can’t wait to see where the road leads next! DAYVE, ANGIE, DEANNA and KIM each bring to the group a unique passion for music that makes their performances sparkle and shine! They have been thrilling audi-ences far and wide with their magical blend, varied repertoire and infectious enthusiasm. Their love for the music and sincerity of their performances will bring you to your feet and leave you saying, “Bling! Baby, Bling!” For more about them go to: www.blingquartet.com or www.facebook.com/blingqt.

NOTES from the Music Committee

“In friendship and love, faithful and true; come now and know the grace of God is all around you. In worship and praise, honoring Him; come now and pray and thank Him for all He gives to you.”

These words are taken from the Communion Anthem that the choir will sing the first Sunday in February. The song was written by Nancy Price and Don Besig. The overall theme of the piece is the call to renew God’s gift of fellowship, peace, and unity through the cele-bration of the Lord’s Supper. While the sacrament of bread is passed Agnus Dei (Lamb of God), music by John Stainer, will be sung. Lamb of God is a title for Jesus that appears in the Gospel of John. It appears in John 1:29, where John the Baptist sees Jesus and exclaims, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

February 15, Joyful Noise Children’s Choir and the Chancel Choir will be singing together the John Rutter piece, Look at the World. Both choirs are excited for this opportu-nity to sing together. As the words of the song say, “Praise to thee, O Lord, for all creation. Give us thankful hearts that we may see: All the gifts we share, and ev’ry blessing. All things come of thee.” We praise God for the beautiful music we can sing each week.

For the February 18, Ash Wednes-day services, there will also be special music presented by volun-teers from the Choir. Soon after this, rehearsals will begin for the Lenten Cantata. Watch for news of the Cantata in the weekly bulletin. We welcome members from the congregation to join us in singing the Cantata. Watch for the start up rehearsal date in the weekly church bulletin. Cantata rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 7:15. Please call the church office (941-778-0414) if you wish to join the Cantata Choir.

Adult Sunday School Class Receives GiftMay the light of God Surround us.May the love of God enfold us,May the power of God protect us,And may the presence of God hold us,From the fullness of His grace we have received one blessing after another. JOHN 1:16

This is a picture of a candle that was presented to the Adult Sunday School Class by Betty and Dick Gilmore. The candle was given to the class by their daughter Laura Davis from Hixson, TN. The class has been praying for Laura for several years as she has been going through chemo treatment for Ovari-an Cancer. Laura has been an inspiration to so many people with her strong faith and commitment to spreading the Word of Jesus Christ. She introduced the book The Red Sea Rules by Robert Morgan that was used as a study guide for a class led by Suzanne Pescitelli. The Deacons used the same book for spiritual growth this past year. The Adult Sunday School class has decided to pass the candle each week to members to enjoy during the week. We are happy to report that Laura’s cancer is in remission and we continue to pray for full recovery. You are invited to be a part of the Adult Sunday School Class... please join us Sundays at 8:45 in the Fellowship Hall.

The Roser Book Study Group has selected Zealot; the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth, by Reza Aslan as our next study book. It balances the Jesus of the Gospels with historical resources of that early era. Join us at 9:00 AM. each Sunday in the Library. Attendees at the 8:30 worship service are urged to come at your convenience. Contact Doug DeLong, 778-7072 with any questions.

COMMUNITY CHURCH

Dolores F. “Laurie” Busard, Died to Life Everlasting on January 19, 2015. She

joined Roser Church in 2009 along with her husband, Dr. Thomas Busard. Our deepest sympathy is extended to her family, husband, daughter Gillian, and her friends. Memorial gifts may be made to Roser Community Church.

Stephen Ministers want to be of service. They train for over 50 hours in basic counseling and ministry as well as actively participate in their own Christian growth and effective sharing with others. They know how to listen, provide perspective, maintain total confidence and privacy, and walk with you through turbulent times. Please call the Church office at 941-778-0414 or JoAnne Moyer at 215-908-0407.
