Northwestern, and has a masters from UNT. One of her sisters is Charlotte Ray, mother on the show “Facts of Life,” and another sister was an opera singer. Charlotte Kroeker gave the invocation, starting with a moment of re-membrance for PDG Dick Dickson. Please keep his family in your prayers. She then read a prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson. A Joy today was that Nolan Duck has a new granddaughter. Rod Pirtle led the Pledge of Allegiance and “The Star Spangled Banner,” followed by “Getting to Know You,” since our new members were speaking today. Cub Amos, assisted by Andy Carothers with the mike, introduced our visitors and guests, including a long-distance visiting Rotarian from Iowa. Happy Franklin introduced our newest member, Mark Neace, who is the creative director of a media company.

designated the committee as the Howard Fitch Memorial New Member Committee. He al-so threw a few barbs at PP Jim Mills, for old times sake, but which were returned by the recipient. He then turned the program over to Ariane Urschler, who gave a “speech” of her own before introducing our first new mem-ber to speak today.

First to speak was Stan Wright, who began by thanking Tom Rhodes and saying that he would be his wingman with the camera. He was born in Dallas, and graduated from Hillcrest H.S. and Texas Tech. He began his career in retail, but then went to work for Xerox, and now works in the mortgage business.

Next to speak was Elizabeth Jones who said she was pleased to be a member of the glo-bal family of Rotary. She said that she is glad to be a public official on the Dal-las ISD School Board, and has an article in the paper today.* She also has a

professional career in finance. She said that she grew up in New York City, and that she was a product of the public school system; she considered some of her teachers her fam-ily. She said that even though she was poor as a kid, she never felt poor because of all the museums, parks, and variety that New York offered. She has lived in the Dallas area for more than twenty-five years. She believes that “itʼs not where you start, itʼs where you finish” that is important. THOUGHTS ON . . .

The real voyage of discovery con-sists not in seeking new land-scapes but in having new eyes.

~ Marcel ProustYou cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus. ~ Mark TwainThe mind of a bigot is like the pupil of the eye. The more light you shine on it, the more it will contract.

~ Oliver Wendell Holmes JrThe face is the mirror of the mind, and eyes without speaking con-fess the secrets of the heart.

~ Saint JeromeWhat you don't see with your eyes, don't invent with your mouth.
