FROM YOUR PASTOR
The First Family Newsletter of the First Baptist Church Owenton, Kentucky
“To be found faithful as God’s people.”
June 2017
Time to Serve The psalmist writes in Psalm 100:2a “Serve the Lord with
gladness….” What a privilege and honor to do this and this month we
have several opportunities before us. Hope you will pray for
and participate in these ministry activities as we seek to
evangelize the lost and edify and equip the saved. Haiti Mission Trip 10th – 16th
Vacation Bible School 19th – 23rd
GA Camp 27th- 29th
Fuge Camps 27th – July 1st
Children’s Summer Program starting week after VBS
Meeting the Needs Relocation 3rd/10th/17th Also, mark your calendars for two events in July. Our Chil-
dren’s Crossing Camp in Baghdad, Kentucky will be July 27
-30 and we will celebrate our 150th Anniversary as a church
with a Homecoming Service on Sunday, July 23. We are
planning a special day with Dr. Paul Chitwood as our guest
preacher and a Dinner on the Grounds after the late morning
service. Though there was a Baptist church located on these
grounds from 1829-1841 our present charter was officially
signed on July 27, 1867. Hope you will help get the word out
to friends, family and former members concerning this spe-
cial day. Remember, “Serve the Lord with Gladness….”! Blessings,
Bro. Brad

“Summertime, and the living is easy…” "Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer…” It doesn’t matter which song you sing or how you word it, we have officially made it to summer. As we move into the month of June, the Adult Choir will take a summer break. The choir will not be meeting
during our regular rehearsal times or the Sunday morning worship services during the months of June and July.
The choir will resume rehearsing Sunday nights at 5:00 p.m. in August. If you enjoy singing hymns, worshiping
the Lord, and having fun, we would love to have you sing with us. For those of you who need a formal invita-
tion: “You are cordially invited to join the Adult Sanctuary Choir of Owenton First Baptist Church. We will
meet Sunday Mornings at 10:30 a.m. in the Carla G. Pennington Choral Suite. Attire is Sunday best. We hope to
see you soon!” There . . . now you have no excuse!
I want to encourage you to be a part of OwentonFBC’s social media and online presence. These tools are there
for you — our church community — and for those who are lost, broken, in need of a church. More and more
people use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. to communicate with the world around them. The
church wants to be there for those who choose to communicate using these methods. Missed a Sunday service or
want to read the newsletter? Head to our website —www.owentonfbc.com — and watch/read it there. Need
some info quick, fast, and in a hurry? Check our Facebook — OwentonFirstBaptist. Follow along and interact
with the sermon using strategic hashtags on Twitter — @OwentonFBC. Like taking pictures and posting them
to Instagram? Follow us — @OwentonFBC — take some pictures of the church, service, events, and post and
tag us in them. There a so many ways to use these tools and I hope you will start using them soon.
Peace and Blessings,
Bro. Chuck
The busiest month in Youth Ministry is upon us and it seems to have snuck up so quickly! This past month we
had six of our youth graduate from OCHS and I think that deserves a big congratulations to those students. Not
only have we celebrated our graduates this month but have also been able to start what I’m calling “Monday
Night H.Y.P.E.” which is a Bible Study and fellowship time that different families host around the county each
week in addition to our traditional Wednesday Youth Group. So far we’ve been out to Elk Lake for a bit of
swimming and a study of 2 Peter as well as being hosted by the Gill family and studying Galatians Chapter 2. The first big thing this month is that FUGE camp payments are due in full by June 4 and the parent meeting for
camp will be held immediately after the late service the same day. We will have our final Haiti Mission Trip
meeting and then that night the high school Bible Study of “Can I Ask That?” will finally come to a close after
eight weeks of studying some of the hard questions that people have about our faith. I will get a week of preparation along with many of our youth and all of the FBC staff before we leave for Haiti.
But once June 10th hits and we leave for Haiti, my family won’t see me for about three weeks because as soon
as we get back, we kick of Vacation Bible School and then the following week we head to Ridgecrest, North
Carolina for our middle and high school FUGE camps to round out the month. As it always has been, June is going to be hectic and non-stop but its also one of my favorite times of the year
because we get to dive headlong into three continuous weeks of very exciting but also very different ministries.
In these different ministries we get to help grow the future of our church as we plant seeds of faith in the chil-
dren at VBS. We get to walk alongside our youth as they grow further in their faith at church camp and finally
we get to go forth and share our faith abroad as we are called to do by Jesus’ final command to his disciples.
I hope you all have had a great start to your summer so far and you have a happy and hectic June. Blessings,
Ben
